A thousand and 24 years ago, Luna got banished to the moon 'permanently' when she became Nightmare Moon. Eternity alone was something that Luna wasn't going to let happen, so after a thousand years of effort, she finally escaped, but at a grave cost.

That was 21 years ago. By now, she has been adopted by a nice family and lives as one of their own, but as the 1000th summer's sun celebration arrives, she is forced to face her past.

Meanwhile, Twilight has to deal with this pretty pony that she initially dreaded the arrival of, and Princess Celestial has to destroy 1000 years of attempts of moving on when her sister is back.

Princess Flurry Heart has been a little kidnapped. And only Shining Armor and Princess Cadance can save—roughly three quarters of—her.

Sunset Shimmer has lost her wife, and with her, direction in life. Luckily Rarity is the type of woman who anticipates these sorts of things. All Sunset has to do is follow directions, and everything should work out just fine.

When Rainbow Dash is accused of having cheated her way into her position in the Wonderbolts, her life is shattered. Rejected and ashamed, she returns home to her friends, where Pinkie Pie is left to pick up the pieces.

Scootaloo's life has always been shrouded in mystery. She lives in her house in Ponyville alone. She often disappears with no explanation. And no one's ever seen her parents.
She keeps it that way deliberately. She likes her normal life in Ponyville, and has held on to it as much as she can.
However, a personal tragedy brings family responsibility down on her shoulders, and her life is about to spiral out of control.
Thankfully, she has quite a bit of help keeping both her lives stable - and separate - as much as possible...

In the months following her return from Nightmare, Luna locked herself away in her room. Despite her best efforts, Celestia could not coax her sister outside in an effort to reintegrate her with the modern ponies. The Princess of the Sun was not willing to simply stand by and watch this time as Luna fell to ruin, but the younger alicorn was making things much harder than they needed to be, only raising the moon and mindlessly wandering the dreamscape in her self-imposed exile.

The eldest mare's list of ideas was nearly run dry when a strange Rough Collie suddenly appeared out of nowhere in the middle of the royal gardens, wounded. Celestia saw this as an opportunity to get her sister to make a new friend. Luna, however, does not especially care for canines, only seeing them as day-running, mindless mutts.

The only problem with that is... I'm not quite as mindless as she thinks I am.

A/N:
This is a test to see if I could do a non-romance story. My writer's block has been acting up something fierce, so I figured that maybe some work on a different story like this might help me.

EDIT 6/30/18: Progress on the rewrite of my other story, PP&F, has slowed down again, so I'm gonna see what I can do about this one since I can actually post these chapters as a write them, instead of writing the entire thing then posting chapters on a steady schedule.

Some inspiration was taken from A Feline's Point of View by Zman537, a wonderful little story that, if you've never heard of it, you should feel ashamed for not having read yet.
