A sidestory set in the world of Starscribe's The Last Pony on Earth. Martha Roberts, a college dropout with a love for art, wakes up to some very strange circumstances. For one thing, she's alone. And for another, she's some sort of small unnaturally colored equine.

In its earliest years, the Crystal Empire was no stranger to threats. Chief among these was the umbrum, a race of ancient shadow-beasts that stalked the arctic wastes. Seemingly born of pure malice, they took great pleasure in tormenting the crystal ponies—destroying their homes and breaking their spirits for fun. And as the Empire grew in both size and prominence, these attacks only became more abundant.

Princess Amore did everything in her power to keep the umbrum at bay. And by using her magic in combination with the Crystal Heart, she was largely successful. But against such overwhelming and unrelenting darkness, even she was pushed to her limits. And the umbrum were growing more cunning by the day. Eventually, something had to give.

Now faced with the darkest days the Crystal Empire has yet seen, Princess Amore will be put to the ultimate test. Against a hatred as old as the wind, can the love of a single pony really make a difference?

Written for FanOfMostEverything's contest: Imposing Sovereigns II. My chosen prompt was "Princess Amore/War."

Thanks to some sound business practices and some well invested bribes, bit monger and CEO of C.E. Gem & Steam "Princess" Cadance runs her multi-million bit empire from the comfort and privately owned Crystal City. Life as never been better for the young CEO but some bad ponies from the "Workers Fair Treatment" or WTF committee are once again trying to ruin her fun.

How will Cadance stand firm against against this evil committee and the rising number of ponies wanting more than one break?

More importantly how much is this going to cost?

Under the guiding hoof of their newly-crowned monarch, King Sombra, prosperity and love flourish in the lands of the Crystal Empire. With peace spanning half a century, most ponies have forgotten the true terror sleeping behind the forbidden boundaries of the northern wastelands.

However, rumblings of a powerful threat from the borderlands have alerted key ponies in the Empire. The tepid peace between the two nations begins to waver as the embittered changelings prepare for war.

With the kindling in place and the flint struck, the mettle of kings and countryponies are taken to their limits, testing just how far each one is willing to go for their homeland.

Foreword: Due to some confusion noted by several people, I will clarify here that this story takes place in the original time of the Crystal Empire (after Discord's original reign but before Nightmare Moon's first iteration.)

After Sombra became dark, all the crystal ponies rejoyced. Except one. Amber Leaf. The only pony who had ever loved him. She still loves Sombra even today. Amber would give her life just to see his face again. When Sombra gets that choice, will the two be reunited once more? And what happens when an old enemy comes back? With the hellp of some new and old friends, Sombra is about to find out.

Over one thousand years ago, the Crystal Kingdom Empire was ruled by the cruel and feared King Umbra. Yet even though the King had everything that a pony could desire, he craved more. Jealousy swelled in his dark heart, and one insane decree turned his once peaceful empire into a kingdom of chaos and panic, and two guards alone risk everything they have to save a lone orphaned colt from the pain and misery that Umbra had brought upon their once-fair home.

While watching the Season 3 premier, I noticed that none of the Crystal Ponies have wings or horns - they were all Crystal Earth ponies. This is my headcanon as to why that is!

He is a Pegasus stallion and Lieutenant of the Royal Crystal Guards,
She is a Changeling and a spell caster to the Hive Guards.
When both meet only love will shine in their eyes,
and only love can stop a battle.

Once upon a time, in a faraway land, there was a young Empire by the name of Crytsallus. Legend tells of a horrible beast that threatened the residents. It also tells of the pony that risked it all to protect them. Controlling the very fabric of existence, this pony stood up against a demon many times its size and banished the darkness. This crystal pony's valiant act ushered in an era of tranquility. The villagers' hearts swelled with respect and adoration of the pony.

It has been a hundred years, and the shadow has returned.

Hey, I'm some guy known as Sparky. Silly nickname? I don't care. Anyway, I went with a bunch of my friends to a convention, we had fun and all. I found some awkward guy and his booth. Looked like the Merchant from Resident Evil. I looked around but didn't find anything of interest. But I never thought I'd see that guy ever again...but I did, and honestly I think it was his fault that I'm stuck here, in this...what did they call it? Crystal something...kingdom or empire, I can't remember really.
