What happens when you realize that your feelings for one of your friends aren't quite the same as your feelings for the rest of them? Do you just prefer some friends for others, or is it a sign of something deeper? What do you do with those feelings? Hide them? Admit them? And how will the rest of your friends react when they find out?

Twilight is going to have to do her best to find the answers, because they're anything but obvious.

Yes, this is a story about romance, but I'm trying to use it to explore the relationships between the characters and see how they'd really react if romantic feelings ever did crop up, and how such a development would impact the cast as a whole.

They say you can’t miss what you’ve never had. And Scootaloo would be inclined to agree with them. Except, she did have all a little filly would want from a home, and she does miss what she lost. Not that anypony would help her get it back.

Lookin' back now, I shoulda known. Funny how that works. Ya go through the day-to-day never suspectin' a thing, but then when you think back on it, the clues were all there in front of ya, ya just never quite put 'em together. If I had, then… well, maybe then it never would have come to this.

Happy Nightmare Night

A Unicorn who grew up in Ponyville seeks answers about his parents. Where will his search lead? And what will he even do if he finds out who his parents are, if their even still alive?

Twilight and Applejack are engaged. Life seems wonderful... yet Applejack doubts. Twilight seems happy, but she's so busy everywhere but Sweet Apple Acres. Two ponies are stuck in their own worlds, or at least that's how it seems to Applejack. When Twilight is called away from the harvest for an important political summit in Canterlot, Applejack decides in her loneliness that the only way to bridge the gap she fears is forming is to head off into a world of magic and intrigue after her favorite unicorn. She will place herself as a seal on Twilight's heart, come hell or high water.

There was only one explanation. For all of it. All of the strange, erratic behavior. Her irrational fear of the sun. Her nocturnal habits of locking herself in in the dark and closing all the blinds. Wearing her sunglasses everywhere, even inside! It was time to invest in some silver, garlic, and a wooden stake.

Meanwhile, her family and friends have their own troubles with the changes. Through it all, little Merry May, first in the service of her goddess, tries to hold things together and keep everypony sane and happy.

I won't tell you what to do, (this time) but reading Appletheosis first is highly recommended. The Shadow of the Goddess also provides useful background and will become very relevant in later chapters.
