Many thanks to: YourNeighborhoodAlicorn and MythrillMoth for pointing out some of the most glaring mistakes which helped this story become even better! Kudos to both of you, I'll reflect on that information and try to become even better at writing!

A/N: The original idea of this story as well as the art for cover belong to Lisboa. If you wish to thank someone then please also thank him and not only me because I have only 'colored the sketch with more words!' Also be sure to check out that amazing gallery on deviantart where you can witness the art created By Lisboa!

Once upon a time, Spike went for a walk.

While on his walk, he was judged by an ancient alicorn, lodged with griffons, parlayed with air pirates, charmed a maiden of a mystical race, and dealt with the scourges of hate, fear, and racism while deliberately drawing the armies of myriad nations to the brink of global war.

Once upon a time, Spike went for a walk, and did all of this so that he could keep a promise to the one that meant the most to him... Twilight Sparkle.

In the first of three books, Pillars of the Sun (Chapters 1-15), Spike is devastated by Twilight's fate and grows more and more despondent as he attempts to understand what has happened to his dearest friend. A gentle nudge from a pony he trusts sends him looking for answers. When that nudge becomes a push he unravels ancient secrets... and risks losing himself before his attempt to rescue Twilight can even begin.

The sheer power unleashed during Nightmare Moon's transformation and her subsequent battle with her sister, Princess Celestia, means that the newly-imprisoned mare of the night has access to magic she hadn't before. However, no matter how hard she tries, she can do nothing to Equestria from where she was; no teleporting back, no messing with weather, nothing.

So, delving into some of her newfound yet mostly useless power, the mare tries summoning things to her from across dimensions, if only to stave off eventual boredom. After many attempts, she is able to finally find something to bring to the moon, alive and enchanted to remain unharmed.

Only thing is, he's not sure if that's a good thing.

"He truly loved her and knew she loved him just as much. The dragon gulped deeply as a fluttering sensation occupied his stomach. He didn't just love Twilight as a friend."

After finally giving up on Rarity, Spike realizes that the true mare of his dreams has been in his company for a lifetime, but is unsure if Twilight would ever consider him as more than a great friend and assistant. The only way he can find out is ask.

The most precious things we have in life are our memories. Our recollections of the good good times and happy moments spent with friends, family, and loved ones. To the average pony, there is nothing in the world more valuable.

To some others though, a happy memory can be more of a curse than a blessing. And they may do anything to rid themselves of that curse.

When Luna gifts Twilight the town of Ponyville and its surrounding countryside as her demesne she's initially confused. Then, after double checking her dictionary, more than a little concerned.

All her friends are, legally, her possessions. The town that took her in is her plaything, if she so wishes. She has been given responsibility.

Can Twilight's vision for a modern renaissance outrun the harsh realities of the shadowy figures pulling strings behind the scenes, nobles jockeying for her attention, and an irritatingly metaphorical love triangle?

Special thanks to the insatiable Blue_Paladin42, the incorrigible Maskedferret, the intuitive Southpaw and the indestructible newbiedoodle for all their hard work, past, present and future.

Twilight Sparkle faces the end of the world as she knows it. An epic three book series depicting the fall of Equestria and the rise of a new nation from the ashes.
I promise you intrepid explorers, bumbling changelings, lost civilizations, murderous trees, villainous nieces, flaming timberwolves, meddling time lords, graceful airships, monstrous bears, frozen dragons, mysterious cities, penitent farmers, stolen kisses, mythical gemstones, foreboding Pinkie twitches, missed parties, epic magical battles, unhelpful zebras, and perhaps even a phoenix or two.
I laughed, cried, and squeed while writing it; I hope you enjoy it too!
Features primarily Twilight Sparkle, Sunny Daze, and an OC, Apollo Dawn.

My thanks to:
Mailbox Bomber (formerly from bronyville.org) - Pre-reading and very helpful story outline advice
--This is a much better story because of your help!
Metaright (from friendshipismagic.org) - Extremely capable and detailed proofreading
--FAR better proofreading than I had any right to expect!
Jadeite (from bronyville.org) - Cover image
--Just what I needed! (Though I did modify it a bit ^.^)

Rated T for brief (where appropriate) gore. This was written before season 3: it's in a season 2 universe; there are already some conflicts with season 3's canon... please disregard them.

I will be posting one chapter every day. If you want to read the entire story right away, you can find it at http://www.bronyville.org/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4020&p=135925#p135925

If anybody feels like contributing artwork, feel free; and I'll likely add it to the appropriate chapter of the story.
If anyone wants to do a spin-off with some of the same characters, feel free, and let me know! I, myself, will probably make future fics using Apollo and his crew. There are some characters there who I didn't get to play around with and develop as much as I'd like to.
