Celestia have always had somepony to take care of.
first there was Luna, then Cadence and her latest Twilight Sparkle. But now when they are all grown up she can’t help but to feel both useless,lonely and old.
She knows that they will always love her and she will always love them, but one evening Celestia suffers from a nightmare and thus she begins to doubt whether her little ponies still want her around or not.
Her desire to have somepony to take care of slowly awakens a darker side of herself that she sealed away centuries ago.
In desperation she releases a criminal who once threatened to destroy Equestria. Celestia will stop at nothing to get her little ponies back, even at the cost of her own soul.

How does a seemingly immortal pony cope with having to banish her sister?

How does she keep her sanity all those centuries?

What secret has she been keeping, only to be revealed to Luna just now?

Either a pony is capable of being something, or she is not. Either she is what she should be, or she is not. Either Luna comes back a penitent or a conquering revenant.

Chrysalis is dying and she has but one thought on her mind. When she is gone from the world, who will care for the one thing in the world she values above life itself?

What will she sacrifice? How much of her pride will be thrown aside? To what lengths will she go to ensure her daughter's life? Will she beg a mortal enemy for mercy, not for herself but for an innocent foal? She is already willing to die for her child so what else could she give to be certain of the filly's sustained happiness?

This is my entry for the EFNW 2014 Writing Contest. I'm really happy with it so it doesn't matter whether I win or not. Seriously I'm glad I got to tell this story.
