As the eternal regent of Equestria, Princess Celestia's knowledge of magic is without equal. Over her long life, only a few gifted ponies who had a great destiny before them have had the honor of learning at her side. Sunset Shimmer was one such pony: one of Celestia’s best and most promising students. As she learned at Celestia’s hooves, their bond strengthened until they became far more than student and teacher to one another.

Sometimes those closest to us are the ones who can hurt us the most.

When a popular pegasus is kicked out of the popular group, he tries to change his life completely, but while he tries to accomplish this, he finds himself the perfect mare.

Apple Bloom has always been taught to do what’s right; by her sister, her brother, and her granny. She works hard to complete her chores, does her school work, and goes crusading with her friends. Even when dealing with the taunting from the local bullies, she tries to keep her distance and avoid conflict; after all, it’s the right thing to do. But when she overhears a private moment by somepony she should by all rights despise, she learns that doing the right thing can be harder than it seems.

It's almost Nightmare Night and Apple Bloom can't wait. However, she soon finds a kitten in a bowl of candy corn and decides to help find it a home.
