My name's Davenport. I once received some good advice that "change doesn't happen unless you make it happen," so this is how I tried to do just that. This is the tale of how I broke the bonds of apathy and tried to change my life for the better, the fat lot of good that did me, and what I learned about the universe in the process.

Roseluck hates Hearts & Hooves Day. She's always been a single mare, and spending the entire day selling flowers is not her idea of a good time. She was hoping things would be different this time around, and who knows? Maybe things will finally change for the downtrodden mare.

Obviously, the title is a play on words of the Poison song, "Every Rose Has Its Thorn".

Ponyville’s idyllic streets seem like such an ironic backdrop for such a desperate struggle. Davenport's store has failed, and with it his spirit. How much further can a once proud store clerk fall?

When Twilight Sparkle heard about the way Spike acted around town when trying to source a quill for her, she realised that her assistant needed to atone for his actions. Quite a long-running argument had culminated in Spike stomping away from Quills and Sofas in a huff, and the last thing Twilight needed was to upset Ponyville’s only quill shop.

Davenport is content being thought of as a polite, successful business pony. One miss-delivered letter to Twilight Sparkle threatens to end his anonymity, as Rainbow Dash begins to scrutinize his life after Twilight refuses to tell her what the letter was about. Due to Rainbow's curiosity, not only is his secret in jeopardy of being exposed, so are his hidden affections for a certain mare.

In an alternate reality, Davenport - the stallion well all know lovingly as the Quill and Sofa guy - barely manages to scrape together bits by selling not quills and sofas, but pots and pans on the streets of Canterlot.

Davenport, the shopkeeper of Quills and Sofas, has a secret.

Authors Note: This story might get a lot of down votes because of the topics in the story. But I would rather write a well written story than a popular one.

There’s nothing like getting lost in a good book. Unless of course you’re quite literally lost in a good book with your only chance of escape hinging on a finicky fairy, in which case I’d imagine there’s nothing like that either. It’s times like these, when I’m tied to a stone slab, about to be sacrificed to fulfill a prophecy and bring about the end times, that I wonder about things: like, what have I done with my life? Why would Twilight even have this book in her library? I wonder what fairies taste like and how I should prepare them when I inevitably cook mine up and eat him?

I don't think this day could get worse.

In an Equestria where it is more than okay to be gay, Roseluck finds herself without a special somepony of her own. However, change in the form of an earnest, yet odd, quills and sofas salespony is on the way. The only problem is this: he's a stallion. And Roseluck's no filthy breeder, is she?
