Bookshelves

  • Favorites 65 stories - 96 unread chapters I liked these, and you should too.

  • Write-off Rereads 24 stories Stories so nice, I hope to eventually get around to reading them twice. This is a special-case RiL list of edited, published versions of fics I read during the writeoffs.

  • Why I Followed You 86 stories You're probably seeing this shelf because one of your stories is on here. Well, the shelf name should explain that.

  • Pennydroppers 19 stories Stories that make you go "Ooohh... shit." Almost always short, dark, and served with a twist. See "The Cost of Life", "The Arbitrage of Moments", "Happy Ending", "The Rose", or "The Corpse Bride" for the most prototypical examples.

  • Creepy Stories About Flowers 6 stories Why is this a thing? Why is the certificate icon the closest one available to a flower shape (unless you count Apple *Bloom*)? Who knows!?

  • 1. Necromancy -- General Reference 2. Black Magic -- General Reference 3. Death -- General Reference 19 stories SPIIIIKE! I thought I told you to put those on a shelf too high for the CMC! [After "Demise Reprise", I'm tempted to make a "Rainbow dies messily and frequently" spinoff shelf]

  • Fates Worse Than Death 17 stories "Hey, Pterrorgrine, what do you read when you want to feel hopeless and despondent and fearful of the agony of existence itself?" "Oh, you know, My Little Pony fanfiction and stuff."

  • The Royal Treasury 8 stories

  • Readable by Non-Bronies 6 stories JOIN THE HERD

  • The Big Three 3 stories These fics, between them, set me on the course from "yeah, I may like My Little Pony, but fanfic is for turbo-nerds" to millions of words read.

Twilight Sparkle decides to write a book... except, she actually decides to write a spell that writes books for her. Things go infinitively awry when she realizes that the difference between writing and spell-generated writing is the love and care of a hoof.

Oh, and of course, things go very wrong. But that's just how stories go, don't they?

What would it be like?

Spitfire has asked herself that question for years. From her upbringing to her graduation—and even her rise through the ranks of the Wonderbolts—a desire for change has always loomed in her heart, no matter how she might have suppressed it.

Now, with her strongest aspiration beginning to resurface, she's starting to remember why she wanted to make music in the first place: The world she lives in, the company she works for, the system she was born into, none of it is right, none of it should be the way it is. Could her music truly change that?

With a little help, Spitfire will come to realise that change is possible.

I cannot thank Ceffyl Dwr enough for the level of work he has put into pre-reading this story, offering suggestions, discussing and debating various details with me and generally helping me make this into something presentable. I'm immensely grateful.

In the stars, a hundred years' journey away, the alicorns gather, to mourn, to mate, and to give birth to the new. They call to their sisters across the galaxies, and Celestia hears them.

Meanwhile, Dotted Line wants her to review tax rebate applications.

(2nd place out of 113 in the "No Regrets" write-off. Dotted Line is from "Whom the Princesses Would Destroy" by GhostOfHeraclitus. Picture by Earthsong9405 & AquaGalaxy, found by Georg. Reading by Super Trampoline. Russian translation by Doof Ex Machina.)

For most people, BitHub is just a version-control service, used to share and track changes in code.

For this and many other reasons, Twilight Sparkle is not most people.

A highly experimental entry and second place co-winner in Bicyclette's Twilight Files contest. Rated Teen for implications that would not get past Discovery Family S&P.

Straight from the Canterlot archives, this collection of documents retells the rise and fall of Princess Twilight Sparkle, Enlightened Despot of Equestria, Defender of the Peace, Lawgiver, and Commander of Fort Libris.

Twilight Sparkle is, of course, known to historians as the first usurper to seek to schedule a coup d'etat by appointment. But for other details- such as, "What is the longest recorded time a pony has gone without sleep?", "Is it true what they say about swans?", and, "Why is there an owlbear in the Equestrian Witness Protection Program?"- these documents provide the answers and much, much more.

This is ABSOLUTELY SERIOUS HISTORY from primary sources. If anything makes you think this is silly, ludicrous, or unbelievable, blame Discord.

Written for FanOfMostEverything's Imposing Sovereigns writing contest.

EDIT 3-15-17: Wow, almost instant featured! Was NOT expecting that!

EDIT 4-8-2017: Featured in the Royal Canterlot Library! Thanks!

Part of the Remember Fort Libris print anthology, thanks to our Kickstarter supporters!

Everypony has one 'Longest Night', a night that just never seems to end, whether they want it to end or not. For Celestia, her Longest Night began on the first night she had to raise her sister's moon.

Heartbroken and filled with despair that she may never see her sister again, Celestia makes a wish upon a falling star to see her sister one more time. Little did she realise that the stars listen.

A one-shot story of two sisters, and one Faithful Student.
