This is a side story to Magic in the Starlight.

Rainbow Dash, as a birthday present to Shooting Star, got tickets to opening night of the new Wonderbolt performance season for him, Twilight, Scootaloo, and herself. All is calm, the mode is electric, and it feels as if nothing could possibly go wrong...

But all that changed when the changelings attacked.

Now, lost and separated from the ponies closest to her, Scootaloo is forced into a situation where she has to hide in one of Equestria's darkest secrets for hopes of one thing...

Survival.

One lonely night, Vinyl decides to use her old two-way radio to relieve the tedium. In doing so, she stumbles upon the voice of 'Adi,' who has a story so crazy Vinyl isn't willing to believe it.

But Adi is desperate, so desperate that Vinyl knows something really is wrong. Can her words help Adi overcome whatever is really happening? Even if she can instill hope in this stranger, is hope worth anything against seemingly insurmountable odds?

All Vinyl can do is sit before her radio and talk. Perhaps it will be enough.

Thanks to Mercury Gilado and Starlight Nova for pre-reading and editing.

This story is a sequel to Cold

Time flows differently, in the multitude of plains that make up the universe. Seconds here can be hours there... and hours here can be decades over there. There is, however, one universal constant among all time and space: Time never stops. Perhaps I counted on time as my ally when I cast that spell and dove into the past... if only I'd know just how cruel and unwavering it can really be.

Thirty years, I've tried... in most other worlds, it's probably been hundreds, but I've managed to keep track. Thirty years of searching, trying and trying again, desperately doing everything in my power to bring you back... and all that I've learned is that unless I make this choice, it's simply not possible... I hope you'll forgive me. I know that'll be hard... but maybe given enough time, you'll understand... -Twilight Sparkle

A quantum superposition of all pony generations with the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy. If you are not familiar with that, this will not make much sense.

If you are familiar with it, don’t expect it to make much more sense.

Roseluck would think herself a pony reasonable enough not to make questionable decisions. For example, accepting a dare to gather the blooming flower of woodland starsalvia that happens to open its petals at night only, to prove that she is not a crybaby.

Roseluck would think herself a pony reasonable enough not to get lost in the woods for the sake of a dare just like that.

Roseluck would think herself a pony reasonable enough not to venture through a dark cave if she were to find herself in one. Nor to disturb its inhabitant, even inadvertently.

Roseluck thought herself that...

Meet Ditch.

Ditch is the caretaker at the Canterlot Cemetery. He lives a calm life involving digging, burying, seldom... well, occasional... alright, habitual drinking, and generally managing the place and its residents to the best of his abilities.

Ditch enjoys his job. The salary is not enough to live, but sufficient not to die, the graveyard shifts are not graveyard shifts, and the clients are calm and docile, even if a little bit stiff. Canterlot ponies, right? But Ditch does not mind. They don’t complain and loyally catch some due rest.

Except for when they suddenly don’t.
