Memories of a time long gone by hold the key to Luna's salvation. To save her sister, Celestia sends Twilight on a quest through Luna's mind, searching for the source of an ancient spell that is slowly killing her. What she finds may change her forever.

Deep in the earth, a shadow grows in strength. The Gates of Tartarus are breaking. The fires of revenge are burning.

A lone prince, a traitor to his kingdom, is waiting. He is waiting for power, waiting for the dawn of his new day. Yet the moment his victory is all but ensured, when Twilight Sparkle herself lies helpless before him, the prince starts to forget the line: the difference between who he was, and who he is now.

Can a traitor ever be anything more?

"It's so nice to see you again!" said the thing that was not Celestia. "Oh yes, I know who you are, Twilight Sparkle. I had a taste of your magic the first time we met. Mortals forget things so easily, I find. Allow me to refresh your memory: you tried to kill me. But you failed, Twilight Sparkle. You only mostly killed me. And I guess that makes you one very unlucky little pony."

Princess Celestia is a paradigm of virtue. Calm and benevolent, she stands strong as the moral guide of all ponydom, its infallible protector and symbol of all that is good.

She is... isn’t she?

Discord knows the truth. And he will stop at nothing, absolutely nothing, to make Celestia see it too.

The truth is never clear. Fear, however, is not so hard to find.
