suicide really wasn't necessary... but the rest was great! i loved how the guy really thought all of it was stupid, but pretty quickly thought that everything was pretty damn awesome.

I understand the whole "being traumatized by the killing" thing, but if you save three lives by killing one, it's blatantly obvious that you probably did the right thing.
Besides, you are doing what you can to protect others. If something tries to kill you or someone you care for, you kinda can beat their skull in.

165703 that is what a person would most likely assume is right, however, even though in equestria all animals have an amount of sentient intelligence, so do most earth creatures. So you are in a sense killing another living being for a natural survival instinct, such as eating. The manticore never knew who those fillies were nor would he care, for he was going to fill his stomach and move on with living. However, because of his lack of complex thoughts and understanding of society, a friendship was at trial and a human simply ended his life for his lack of adaption of his mind. So putting it simply it could be both considered right and wrong for many reasons, and of course I COULD go into the idea of the fact that right and wrong varies from being to being, simply based off of understanding and personality BUT I think i've ranted a little too much.... Now to go act like Ditsy Doo so nobody suspects I am actually intelligent.

I have a huge issue here.
You said he was about as tall as most of the buildings in Ponyville.

those buildings are BEHIND the Library.
Jumping from the roof would, at worst, break his legs.
He would not die.
Unless the planet's natural gravity was several times that of Earth.
But if that were true he would be crushed to death, or not be able to breathe.
If he were pony sized then he would probably die.
But he isn't.
I was guesstimating heights when I started writing this. I admit I didn't quite properly do my research on Ponyville when I wrote this - I was figuring being ~2x the height of a door would equal roughly 2 stories tall compared to a pony house (so I figure my head would be roughly level with the bottom of the window sill near the bee's nest). I forgot how tall the roofs were in comparison to the buildings themselves in the show. However, it would be perfectly possible to kill myself from a jump of that top platform. If I were trying to commit suicide jumping off of something from a height that may or may not have killed me, I would have jumped head first, so as to land on (and break) my neck/spine.

167127 um, I'm not gonna complain but breaking your neck or spine could kill you... if medical attention could not be applied soon enough to stop your body from completely halting blood flow. Normally in reality this is impossible to stop but magic healing would likely be able to fix such a problem if it were performed by an experienced magic user such as twilight and since he did such by her home with his size the impact would have likely alerted her to something being wrong and she may have been able fix him up before he died. Of course I do enjoy the story though, and Luna is best pony so I simply can't be unhappy because of a small argument like that. Also I said only maybe would she have saved him because she wouldn't have known what was wrong with him in the first place and would have to examine him somehow first, and it is unknown how long that could take. So basically, time was a key factor here not height.
Don't ask me how I know any of this aswell, because by the time I will have checked for a response to this comment, I will have forgotten.

I must apologize to you all, but the technology gods are giving me a giant middle finger. In three days, my iPod, PS3, and laptop all crapped out on me. If I'm lucky, I'll get my laptop back next friday, maybe not until the following monday. I thank you all for being so patient with me as I update this.
I think in this kind of situation I would definitely miss video games a lot.
So, I have good news, bad news, and more good news.
Good news is, I have my lap top back and everything is in working order.
Bad news is, I have a crapton of homework this week.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not entirely sure where it's heading. I have a few planned "story arcs" so to speak, but I haven't decided how/when to end it (I've written my death in, then back out like, four times now). So it's a surprise for everypony!

And... done. Sweet bajeebus I wrote 22000 words. That's more than twice as long as anything else I've ever written... Anyway, it's been great fun and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. I'm planning on writing another fic, but it will probably be a while before I've gotten enough written on that to post (I plan on taking it a lot slower because I'll be going for a more traditional story format than a journal). With that, I'll... yeah, uh, I guess I'm done here for now
