This was fun to read so far. Of course, I'm not totally in love with this ship but I really like how you're writing these characters and my opinion could change. Just by reading the prologue and 1st chapter there was a lot that has been uncovered about Sunset and A.J. that I didn't get from WTEtG. For example, I knew Sunset was dealing with some bad people but I didn't think they would flat out send people to follow her. But, I guess that was kind of expected. 😅
Anyway, that was just my opinion and I'm not a writer by all means but, I'm enjoying this and I hope to see more.

I'm glad you like it so far! Yeah, precisely because this is a rareship I really thought it best to set this story arc aside. I was glad I could dive deeper into Sun and AJ's lives, but I was aware not everyone would be interested in reading that. I'm just glad I have more room to explore the bad guy subplot with Sunset and still keep good pacing in WTEtG!
Anyway, I really hope I can hold your interest and sell you on this ship!

Technically, the site's rules prohibit me from directly linking to a mature-rated story, even if it was posted in FimFiction. I went and double-checked if embeds work in story descriptions just to make sure I'm not remembering wrong, and while it seemed to work in preview, it doesn't seem to actually work when viewing it normally. It just shows the code and the URL instead of displaying the proper embed.

This isn’t a dig, I know you’re working with the storytelling limitations of EQG being a FiM spinoff, but it feels weird to me to imagine that your version of Sunset Shimmer, the bisexual, sometimes-surly mouthed, emotionally numbed, streetwise criminal used to be a talking horse.

After I looked over the site rules, I realized it doesn't explicitly prohibit me from linking mature stories in story descriptions, but it doesn't actually say I can either. I got some clarification from FimFiction's discord help channel, and they said if we can link mature stories in blog posts tagged with a mature story, then we can probably link those in a mature story's description. It wasn't an official ruling, but since nobody has said it would be an issue, I'm just going to go ahead and do that.

Phew weee, I’m so happy to see another chapter from this story drop! I’ve been re-reading my favourite sections for days (which is most of the chapter 😅) and I’m so intrigued to see more of Sunset and Applejacks relationship develop!

Anyway, what a hurtful but nice ending to the chapter too. It’s really sad to see Sunset and Aj hurting but at least they can hurt together.
I'm not familiar with your main source, but this is nice. A tough story of two weathered girls getting by as best they can. I like that AJ's fights with Applebloom and Macintosh are things they get over well enough rather than defining their relationship, just like family. Hoping for the best for both of them, and for a good ship together where they share each others' strength.: heart:

I feel guilty saying this, but I enjoy writing this spin-off fic more than the main fic. 😅 The main story is catching up, finally, so the two chapters I have waiting in the wings will be out soon.

Sweet, glad you liked the chapter.
And I don't mind the question. Basically, I just wanted more diversity in the story. It's so easy to imagine all the girls as just white Americans, but late into the game I realized how enriching it would be to explore their cultural differences. Aaaand also I just think Sunset's colors look good with darker skin. In the end I'm still not doing anything too drastic. Most of the cast is still white. But even then, I wanted to expand on their different cultural backgrounds. Like Pinkie was going to be of Swedish descent and Rarity's I was thinking maybe Jewish. Etc.

Ah, i see. You are going with the girls and everyone else having normal skin colors.
Also i think i figure it out how Sunset is going to deal with the cartel. I think that the cartel will mess with the girls, in a bad way. And Rainbow and Sunset will unleash the magic of "fuck off from this plane of reality" and systematically destroy the cartel inside and outside. well, that or they will get help from the government.

Welp - I love the growing tensions between Appleset that is clear as day to those around them.
I also love how resilient the Apple family has been, bouncing back from fights over and over. It seems like an easy shortcut to have it all fall apart just to trigger teh sads, but after the initial anger they reclaim their self-awareness and make amends. Despite her troublesomeness it almost seems Applebloom is less a threat to the dynamics than Macintosh...
At any rate, I, along with Sunset, look forward to some better looks at those muscles.
Damn, that last bit of Sunset’s story wasn’t at all where I was expecting you to go in this story. It made me feel a little uncomfortable to read, whixh I suppose is a sign that you handled the subject matter well.

There's something about the small din of a crowded pub that makes sensitive conversations feel easier, IMO. There's too much going on and often times no one is paying attention to you. As someone who has had similar intense conversations in such settings (and awkwardly overheard a few I didn't mean to), this felt plausible. Though, yes, the girls do eventually relocate once the noise gets bad. (Next chapter.)

Lol, okay so I'm definitely drawing on the wlw masc energy on tiktok. Lots of buff-looking lesbians with tool belts, short haircuts, and carabiners remind male-exhausted ladies that "for every man who won't, a masc will." Cue sexy music with montages of them cleaning the house, fixing your car, and cooking you dinner. The lesbian version of the Ryan Gosling "perfect boyfriend" meme combined with the "Old Spice" towel guy. This is my secret to AJ. She's basically just a soft masc looking for her princess to save.
(Though she's certainly just a workaholic who can't stand things not functioning properly around her--also a much-poked-fun-at but still adored masc stereotype.)

Nothing screams cutesy romantic undertones like two girls getting together to patch, sand and repaint a wall so Sunset doesn’t lose her damage deposit
This is so wonderful to see them open up to each other, both verbally and physically. That the scene in the car ended with just a kiss was chef's kiss, teasing for more yet refusing to follow the predictable route. And that they are moving forward despite their baggage makes it feel genuine, as the fic doesn't engineer impromptu drama for its own sake. I'm digging it.
