OK, I am thoroughly amused. I'm liking the fact that you're having 'realistic' problems for both comedy and believability.
988043 Do you find I'm dealing with 'conveniences' decently enough, through bad things following soon after or other?
Yeah, you've got to be able to have fun with magic as a unicorn, but of course you've never been trained. 'Crawling' to walk was an excellent idea, and I think it's the first time I've seen that used as an explanation for how a human can suddenly walk (more or less) as a pony. None of the good-then-bad seems contrived either, so that works. I'm somewhat surprised at how well your parents took things, but we can chalk that up to shock or something. I'm sure it'll hit the fan now that they're back home again.
988508 My real folks are pretty laid back. My father and I have watched enough Science Fiction together to not be surprised by much of anything, and I think my mother would secretly be thrilled that if I suddenly turned into a pony, even if it was one of a colorful and magical variety. Always used to talk about how much she loved working in a stable back when she was young.
Still going to have some ground-rules in the house. The family reunion hasn't even started yet, either.
This Is Why I Love You Dude..
So Amazing..
989083 I'm glad you like it. Out of curiosity, what do you enjoy about this particular venture?

I Really Can't Explain It... Just Know That It Brings A Smile To My Face...
<-- (Sign your a new pony and naturally liking the icons) Okay when I started to read I was captivated and now It's just really good :3 hehe I'm loving it.
I agree that the parents seemed to be taking it a bit lightly, but that's okay. I like how you explain everything really clearly, it's all really easy to understand. great job! There was something else I wanted to say, but I forgot. Oh, well! i'll tell you if I remember.
*claps*
Very nice, looking forward to next chapter!
Also curious as to how things would be for Lyra

999884 " Also curious as to how things would be for Lyra" yeah, seeing some throbbing meat-stick in-between His/Her new bipedal legs
I'm laughing so much right now.
That FOE reference is amazing. you a fan?

With all the explotions, I'm surprised cops aren't called in by the neighbors.
Im surprised a NEIGHbor hasn't called the police saying there might be a terrorist next door. or some kid messing around with too many fireworks

I loved it was so funny he just can't get a break I guess he will have to go slow and steady before he can do anything perfectly I can't wait to see what happens next and how the rest of his or should I say her family will reacted to his ponyness

4646438 And then project horizons, I think the longest Fanfic(or single story) Currently written down. And it's still going.
Thank you! I swear, I can never get why so many people think it would take weeks to learn to walk on four legs. We freaking start out as quadrupeds. Sure, it would still require practice to not walk clumsily, but the basics are already instinctive for us.
Anyway, same as before, everyone is taking this way, way to casually, but the story is still alright.
I always have to laugh when a displaced story uses some variation of this scene. It's cute the first few times, but it gets old fast, and it's actually entirely false. Every human ever knows exactly how quadripedal motion works. They just don't remember that they do. Have you ever crawled like a baby? Congratulations, you can walk like a horse. Hallelujah.
Props for actually taking that route a paragraph later.
8286052 Yeah, the one thing I'll say about When a Pony Calls is that the age of the story and its writing shows. It's still somewhat an unedited mess that I need to go back and finish a re-edit pass. Some of the story elements definitely come off as reused. Unfortunately things always get murky when the Displaced comparisons come out.
And yeah, we all start out learning quadrupedal locomotion, but as we learn to walk, we tend to forget how it all works. Evenn then, the crawling as a baby thing isn't a perfect comparison. From an anatomical standpoint, the hoof is effectively one big toenail, the structure protected by it being analogous to a giant toe. So really, it's more akin to being forced to walk on your fingernails and toenails and nothing else.
