The Wandering Bard

"I am a singer, a poet, a musician, a storyteller. I am a bard at heart. That is who I am. That is what I shall always be." (Icon by atokota on FurAffinity)

They say that I must send my sister to the moon for one thousand years. They say that she is too far gone, and that it is for the best. But I cannot believe that. I refuse to believe it! Luna is my sister after all, and I can still save her!

But then a small part of me asks, What if I really can't save her by myself? What if... what if they're right?

Inspired greatly by the Luteces' cameo in Trade Ya! You do not need to have played BioShock Infinite to read and understand this story.

Also, many thanks to Alicorn Airport, Kirito-Persona and Protopony350 for being my pre-readers. Many, many thanks as well to Haycart for being my wonderful editor.

And many thanks to Will-Owl-the-Wisp for the amazing cover art. You can find the original here.

Now with a story reading by myself, Wisp, and MelancholyIguana.

Warning: Some spoilers to the end of BioShock Infinite in the comments.

Thank you, my friend, and thank you for the favorite! I am glad that you enjoyed the title and the story.

6824698 You caught all of those in a single reading? :raritycry: Bard is far too generous with her praise, it seems. :ajsleepy:

6824698
Haha, not at all, Hay! You really did an impeccable job.

And thank you for catching all those, Emylia! I shall certainly make most of those changes and leave a more thorough reply once I am home and at a proper keyboard.

Thank you both for all that you do!

6824822 I suppose you're right. I guess one gets inured to errors they did not spot on their first pass, which makes them harder to spot on later passes as well. And it's Mr. Haycart, or just "Haycart", actually.

6825026
Awww. *hugs* I am certainly glad you enjoyed it, my friend, but I am sorry to have made you cry. :twilightblush:

And thank you for adding it to your favorites!

6824698
Hello, Emylia! I wanted to thank you for pointing out those errors, and I have changed them! The only thing I kept was the page break in between Celestia entering the throne room and her approaching Luna. I actually wrote the story in one go, but as I re-read that particular part, it felt to me like it needed that pause. And while one scene does indeed follow another, that pause always felt like it needed to be there for me. Does any of this make sense? :twilightsheepish:

6825302
But they are wonderful suggestions for sure.

i love it i absolutely love it you are an amazing writer,we should write a story together some time if interested

6827065
Thank you, and yes! That would certainly be a delight! Feel free to send me a PM if you would like to discuss this further. Glad that you enjoyed it!

Nothing against the story, I hate Infinite so goddamn much.

6827254
Nothing wrong with that! What were your problems with it?

6827259 The generic guns, the boring ass arena shooting, the boring upgrades, vigor upgrades sharing currency with weapon upgrades, lack of exploration, everything being hand waved because of alternate dimensions, an ending that basically goes against its own logic,

6827269
I haven't played too many shooters, so I wouldn't know about the guns being generic. I do know, though, that once I get the machine gun and shotgun, I don't switch them out all game. And while I do enjoy some of the vigors, I largely ignore half of the ones you get. And I definitely think the combat starts to lag around the time I get to Fink's, but it picks up for me after that. But I definitely enjoy the upgrades. And for me, even with its combat flaws, the deep story, rich characters and gorgeous world more than make up for them. And while the ending makes sense to me now, I have to admit that it totally broke my brain the first time I played. :rainbowlaugh: I literally just sat there, completely dumbfounded, asking myself, "What just happened?" And then I went back and started a new game the next morning. :derpytongue2:

6827354 It destroys its entire premise. Infinite possibilities means an infinite number of reasons Booker becomes Comstock, so just removing the baptism variable does not eliminate Comstock.

6827400
You are right, and that gets addressed to an extent in the DLC, Burial at Sea. Guh, that game broke my heart...

still a great story you got here :pinkiehappy:

6831811
Thank you so much! And yeah, that pretty much happened to me. :rainbowlaugh: I literally could not make "Heads... or tails?" of the ending. (Sorry, had to. :twilightsheepish:)

These characters (Robert and Rosalind) are my favorites from Bioshock Infinite.

6832280
Awesome! What do you like about them?

6832284 Their lack of emotion and sympathy. They are blunt and direct. If they tried to be kind it wouldn't work. They seem to have a tendency to try to 1-up each other. Heads or Tails, Bird or Cage, and many others that may be in the game. I haven't gotten too far in. But by far they are just hilarious.

6832293
:rainbowlaugh: They are indeed, and you hit the nail right on the head! I'll be curious to know what you think of the rest of the game!

Thank you, my friend, and thank you for the favorite!

Great story and certainly worth the read.
I love stories like this. Gives the show a feeling of greater depth.
I am a little sad that the luteces were only present for a brief period.
It would have been nice for them to appear occasionally as onlookers maybe once or twice.
However, on the flip side, it does mean they don't overstay their welcome.

Good story, good crossover, good choice of characters.
They were where they were needed...

6910827
And needed where they were.

Thank you, Mel! I'm so glad that you read and enjoyed! And who says the Luteces weren't watching the whole time? :raritywink: But seeing through Celestia's eyes, we will never know...

Great! You earned a like!

6999432
Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it!

Aw man, that was heartbreaking. But really good. I thought your writing was great, and it was rather refreshing to see a portrayal of this scene with some emotional background where Celestia was honestly trying. We get so many fics that just have Celestia being cold and helping the rift form, but sometimes jealousy poisons a person all on its own. Really nice job!

8155311
Thank you so much! Celestia's always been my favorite pony, and she's always been shown to be kind and caring, so I wondered why she was often portrayed as cold and unfeeling towards Luna's plight. That, and a few other factors, combined into me writing this. I'm very glad that you enjoyed it!

And thank you so much for the follow!

8156526 Agreed, I love Celestia, and it's nice to see kinder portrayals of her. And you're welcome! I should thank you as well; I found you because you Followed my Ask Blog on Tumblr the other day, so thanks for that! (I'm the mod of IAmNotAnAlicorn, that one about the psuedo-alicorn salespony. :) )

8157658
Oh yes! You are so welcome! That blog looks super interesting and fun, so I can't wait to see where it goes. Awesome to see you on here!
