Penn and Twilight have been courting for a while, but because of the the constant belittling by Prince Blue Blood, Penn feels that he, a simple writer and scholar, maybe holding Twilight back from being truly happy.
It isn't until he gets some advice from an unlikely source that he realizes that it's not just okay for him to love a Princess, it's okay for her to love him back.

6810672 I like to think that after her defeat Chrysalis taught her changelings that it was better to fit into society and live peacefully, rather than try and take over the whole kingdom. From a strategic stand point, it would mean a continuously renewing food source. Through doing that herself, she's mellowed out a lot and has learned to care for others happiness and not just her own ambitions.
If you can't tell, I'm a Chrysalis fan. She's such an under used villain with unlimited potential.
