The students at Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns must hatch a dragon during their entrance exam. Once the dragons come of age, however, they must be released to rejoin the wild dragon flock. The students have cared for their dragons since they hatched, so it's understandable for special friendships to form between student and dragon. One such relationship was forged between a certain purple unicorn and a young, wingless dragon. Princess Celestia allowed Spike to stay, but she made him make a promise. As the years drag on, it becomes harder and harder for him to keep that promise.

6291508 Well she only went to the ball to find a "Prince charming". She didn't really care about personality or anything else besides the fact he's a prince and of high social status and thus just thought of the gain she could've gotten from someone in a rich, lavish position.

This was a sweet ending, still focusing on how Spike feels responsible for Twilight, but Twilight making it clear that it's not a one way street.
