Pinkie Pie,
What impeccable timing. I was just heading up the driveway when I saw your letter poof into my mailbox. And, yes, humans do love cake especially on their birthdays, and I thank you very much for the offer. I don’t want you to go through too much trouble for me though. If you just made me a single cupcake, I’d be perfectly happy and appreciative of just that.
And I’m sorry that you couldn’t get to me before I left. If you like throwing parties, if your letter is any indicator, I do have a couple of interesting cookbooks you may enjoy. One’s all about baking, and then there’s this one that my sister got me as a joke for cocktails and other drinks. I don’t know how well ponies take to alcohol, but there are a few punch recipes that you could probably make without it.
Next time I go to the library, I’ll be sure to keep you in mind, so let me know anything you’d like me to pick up.
Twilight, I did get you some Jane Austen (always a classic), but something that I remembered that I thought you’d actually love that I remember loving reading is A Wrinkle in Time. It was several years ago that I read it, so I can’t say for certain whether it holds up, but there’s a lot in here that I thought would greatly interest you.
And Spike, I took the liberty of also going a little classical and got you A Princess of Mars. It’s a bit more sci-fi than anything, but a lot of our comic book superheroes were greatly inspired by this book, and I think it would be perfect for someone like you.
I’ll ask for your progress on each book so I can know whether I need to renew it or not. I can take books out for three weeks at a time and renew them for another three weeks up to two times granted they’re not put on hold by someone else. Of course, this only applies to Twilight and Spike, as I own the books I’m lending Pinkie Pie.
In any case, do enjoy them.
Toby
P. S.: So three of you are already in on my existence. At what point should we start letting more of your friends in on it?
Three years for that letter to be sent. Might wanna edit that or Twilight probably would have opened up a portal to check on him by then.
I dread what Pinkie is going to do with alcohol. No liver will be safe.
Lookin forward to how this goes and the aftermath.
he should have fluttershy read cujo
9161298 Or Animal Farm
9161309
you think Fluttershy would like the wild thornberries?
Augh, don't introduce fictional science to Twilight, she'll figure it out!
If magic is fictional in our world, wouldn't science be in their's?
9161309
Or he should have Starlight Glimmer read Animal Farm. That would be hilarious.
9161320
... In the case of that book, she already HAS. Invoking a tesseract in AWIT is simply teleporting, with or without passengers. In the book, at least.
9161348
Science isn't even a thing, it's a process. That's like saying thinking is fictional.
9161458

Actually in Equestria magic would probably just be another academic discipline, like geology or Math.
Goddamn, I'm invested in this. The characters work so well together. It's a great concept and story. A part of me is already hoping that the story will end with them finding a way to meet each other in person.
9161579
Agreed. I would love to see interaction between them face-to-face, though it may have to break the unique aspect of the whole story.

Either/or I imagine the reactions would be amazing.
Excellent work.
Found this today and binge read it in one sitting.
Very well done, I will be looking forward to more.
(Well, he's becoming a regular book exchange! And smart guy, he's recognizing the pattern already.)

Perhaps he will find a way to mail himself and vice versa perhaps that will be the sequel...

That's a good point, but since the two of them can actually communicate, there's no need to break it down to the most basic communicable concepts. It'd be easier to ask for the half life of Carbon-14. But that's predicated on ponies having a working understanding of nuclear physics and atomic theory, whereas we know they have basic mechanical timekeeping devices.
Actually, know that I think about it, it'd be easiest to compare the distance that light can travel in a single second. Since if equus was moving at a slower speed relative to earth, time dilation could be an issue, but regardless of their relative velocities, the velocity of light in a vacuum would remain constant, so if they had a fixed comparable unit of distance (mail a ruler or meter stick), they could establish the relation between their respective rates of time without having to worry about other factors (like what triggers the letters to go through, and when).
The Wrinkle in Time book is good, I've heard, but the movie was the worst one I've seen this year. Wow was it bad.
9169520 But... cakes of all sizes!
What a lovely little story. I've enjoyed it thoroughly. If we're suggesting older books Twilight might enjoy, I'd recommend the Tom Swift books. They were written back in 1910, and are a great example of that post-war the-future-is-now style.
Oh of course pinkie would love cook books cocktails though oh lord drunk pinkie here we go haha
