Great Chapter! As a student of naval history, I think the battle description was quite satisfactory. Besides, you can always have various characters telling stories of their heroism later on.

804960 No kidding: The Mane6 were damn lucky not to get killed. Naval battles during the Age of Sail were nasty, brutal affairs.
I read accounts of various battles during that period and let me tell you, they are not for the faint of heart.

A few ideas for future stories:
1) Captain Mays helps Equestria establish naval infrastructure for the Fledgling Equestrian Navy: training sailors, cannon foundries etc.
2) Maybe look into redesigning cannon carriages for ponies to use more easily (small detail but still....)
3)If El Fantasma is looking to open a gateway maybe other nations might try to do the same? Certainly the United States would be looking for the Concordia...
4)Speaking of the Concordia, I suggest a new prefix: R.E.S. (Royal Equestrian Ship).

One thing that bugs me is that you said rainbow dash is going mach 5 (which is 3,863 mph) when she broke the sound barrier, which is impossible because mach 1 is 767 mph and to break the sound barrier you have to go 770 mph, but other than that this story is awesome
