What happened between Dash and Soarin?
Oh gods..Why would you show her that SIN.
that will do author that will do
5061651
When you say SIN...do you mean a giant whale?
Ah, Twilight jokes...
.....yeah, it's still a better love story.
5061852
Than twilight.
5061597
Forget that, the subtle bashing of sparking vampires just made my day.
5061740 ..The hell is a Gaint?
A Gay Saint?
5062179
Giant you buckface, now go paradigm shift to fuck-off mode.
5062293 Hey, you said it, not me.
5062305
Just...paradigm shift from smartass mode...
So Twilight is a better love story than Twilight?

Of all the movies to show Tia, you showed her THAT!?
If it's going to be something with romance in it, why not something like "Princess Bride" or "Stardust"? Stardust in particular might get to Tia I think.
Long awaited chapter and triangle.
5062348 My apologies, but that is my default setting.
5063042
Jeez, do you have an endless chain of attacks that don't need recharging?
I would like to cite Clarke's three laws here:
I'm not quite satisfied with Celestia's explanation about why they can't cultivate the Weed. Though, maybe she does understand the problem better and just was brief to Fairy.
5058520
Well, Fae is an anti-hero.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AntiHero
He didn't do this.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SaveTheVillain
This applies to him too..
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SlidingScaleOfIdealismVersusCynicism
As well as this..
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MrViceGuy
Personally, I find characters like that more interesting, especially when they are morally conflicted – and the moral answers and tradeoffs are equally as confusing. I think LordBrony2040 has been playing to that as a strength using Fae's internal dialogue.
My main problem with RealityCheck's comment was how he was harassing an author, especially a talented and productive one I was regularly reading. RealityCheck wasn't on my radar until then; it was after I wrote my comments that I found out about some of his more... unsavory views and violent desires.. RealityCheck is like some bizarre contamination from stormfront.org .
Once I realized that, then I also realized that his behavior made perfect sense; people like that have little to no respect for other people who don't agree with their set of beliefs.. That combined with narcissism makes them go out and attack other people if they feel they can get away with it, while subsequently feeling they have a right or duty to do so... while secretly or publicly chuckling in delighted glee at the misfortune they cause for others. These are the same people who complain about the control of tolerance as a rule, the singular exception whose purpose is to deter control and encourage diversity, while demanding that other people be pressured to conform to their favored set of rules and who will attack them if they refuse to conform to their personal desires.
And, well, I wrote a whole comment about it, but RealityCheck's reasoning was uhh... bad, to be polite, in my opinion. The two comments I made addressed different problems: one being his complete lack of respect ( 5048485 and where I continued in 5048580 ), and the other being the flaws in the actual points he made ( 5049128 ) .
Well, I also have to admit I might have worked into the analysis of Spike some things that were relevant to RealityCheck. I can be a bit cheeky when I get into the mood.
But I don't really think that RealityCheck really cared that deeply about the logic of what he was saying anyway. RealityCheck has some axes to grind; some themes he doesn't like about this story that he didn't even mention in that specific comment. What you were reading was his emotion. That was his petty hate. And RealityCheck's hate is like a river of lust that is only held back by how far he thinks he can get away with his behavior. That actually shows up in a great deal of his writing, and it loses its polish when he can't just create a fantasy world to facilitate his own desires. The comment he made here was to hurt someone's feelings, intimidate them and manipulate them. In fact, a lot of his comments are like that. In fact, a lot of his blogs are like that. In fact, a lot of his fiction is like that!
RealityCheck enjoys bullying other people, and I don't think good people should tolerate that behavior.
Let him go rant and rave on his user page, but keep it there.
5063045 My weaponry is exponential.
Accidentaly words. "have a reputation" and "do you ---- we did on"
5063158
And we "know" ponies arent inquisite (from Fae's POV), even if Celly spent time on it, there's only so much she can do since she got many other duties to work on. The pony POV is also biased towards magic, where Fae isnt.
If a dedicated research team ( like a bunch of changeling) were to investigate and use Fae's human knowledge to get more data and isolate variables on the plant problem.. maybe they could have a better understanding of it and maybe some solutions.
5063914
On the subject of the plant, it doesn't really matter in the end if it's truly impossible to cultivate elsewhere or not, or if Fae's human knowledge can find the variables to make it grow, because the plant's growing scarcity is a plot device to push the story into a polyamorous direction.
Not that I have a problem with that... :D
What movie he showed to Tia? Im not for crappy romantic movies, so the only I know is Titanic but I don't think it was that
5065747 Complete this sentence to score a hundred points:
That was the most beautiful peice of dialogue I have ever read. Tears have been shed.
5065747
Presumably Twilight.
That was fun. Looking forward to more.
Keep up the good work. Deus tecum.

I know better than to look at those links. I've been down that path before. I don't have time to sink into TV Tropes right now. But I'm pretty sure that I've been on TV Tropes enough to know what all of those are about anyway.
Yes, "antihero" probably describes Fae best. But he certainly isn't a nice guy, he's definitely on the cynical end of that scale, and his morality is at best a shade of gray (I'm thinking medium to medium-dark). He'll do anything for the ponies he likes (which is pretty much just the mane six, the princesses, and a few others like Sunset and Derpy), but when it comes to anyone else, he'll at best be apathetic, but completely willing to screw them over in any way possible if he thinks it will help someone he likes. And included in the "anyone else" category are the other changelings—his subjects—who he's supposed to helping. And the ponies he likes don't always get a free pass either. He even points out that he puts Twilight through a lot of crap.
So on the one hand, he might not be too bad for Rainbow. We know that he probably won't intentionally do anything to hurt her, and he does love her. But on the other hand, he can be a pretty big unrepentant scumbag, and Rainbow is definitely a much better person than he is.
Basically, he doesn't deserve her. (Actually, I believe he's pointed out to Twilight that he doesn't deserve her either. But love.)
As for RealityCheck, frankly, I don't care what else he's written right now. First of all, I have never read any of his stories or blogs, so I am not qualified to make any sort of judgement there. All I know about what he's written are things I've heard from a few other people. Second, and more importantly, it's not really relevant to what I was saying. Even if everything else he's ever said is wrong (and I'm not saying it is, because once again, I am not qualified to make that call), that doesn't mean that he can't be right in this case. And I think that he was, or that he at least made a valid point, and I agree with it, though for some different reasons. (But that being said, you have to admit that it seems very likely that Fae will admit that he handled the situation with Spike poorly and that the two of them will eventually learn to get along.)
5072560 he wouldn't even try to wipe out the bees their relation with the trees is of a symbiotic nature while the bats had a parasitic relation to the trees
Man, what a ride.
This story is really rather good. It needs a bit of polishing in the missing words and a rapidly diminishing amount of grammatical errors division, but hot damn if you don't make up for all that in the storyline department.
I'll admit that while I enjoyed the first one, it had a fair bit of flaws that could have been ironed out, this one's flaws just makes everything better. The characters feel like people, the protagonist is a cynical bastard with a heart of tarnished gold, and the villains have been great.
I'm really really looking forward to more of this, it's been far too long since I've found a really good story. I'll go so far as to say that this is the best damned fic I've read this year. Unless Exchange came out this year, because there's no topping that, I'm terrible at remembering what has happened this year. Still, fic of the year award goes to you.
It's really impressive to see how you've improved, and keep improving every step of the way. Keep up the good work!

I haven't made any statements yet about whether Fae deserves Rainbow or not, but you've got me interested in pondering it now. I just talked about the situation with Spike and how RealityCheck was being abusive. When I was defending LordBrony2040, I wasn't really saying anything at all about Fae. Fae and the author aren't the same person. Despite Fae being a theoretical avatar, he has been brainwashed by the hivemind of an always chaotically evil species of emotional vampires that caused a couple of near extinction events. RealityCheck was just inferring that they were the same so he could indirectly and directly insult LordBrony2040. I wasn't really making any comments on RealityCheck's "Fae is a scumbag" or "serves him right to get turned down by Dash" assertions.
So, I'm considering the assertion that Fae doesn't deserve Rainbow. Hmm...
I'll be honest with you, I don't think that position makes sense. When you have a romantic partner, whether your partner is nice or mean is usually not even the most important part of sexual attraction. Sexual attraction and mate selection don't really work like that. It's legendary how human males who are complete jerks, and have a couple of other qualities that being a jerk usually helps with, get laid like crazy.
LordBrony2040's comment where he mentioned the evil stuff Fae did, especially when he was still playing the evil insect overlord, didn't even mention half of the debatably evil or questionable stuff Fae did. I think that was just what LordBrony2040 could remember off the top of his head. I can think of a couple of other things Fae did which were arguably evil that LordBrony2040 didn't even mention.
But, alright, we've established that he's a Mr. Vice Guy.
Well, you aren't finished yet, not by a long shot.
Ok, what about the stuff Fae's done that were generally 'good'. This is just what I can pull off the top of my head, and is not a complete list.
1. Saved Equestria from the changelings.
2. Found a way to feed the changelings without causing the ponies to go extinct or eternal war with every other sentient species.
3. Saved Twilight's life.
4. Helped Celestia reunite with her Sunset.
5. Helped Celestia get out of her shell and start living life again.
6. Is well known for helping his friends out on a regular basis, for no other reason than they ask nicely and persistently.
7. Does the boring administration work of ponyville while Twilight goes out and does what she wants.
8. Effectively shares the changlings with Celestia.
9. Goes to bed every night before Celestia to save her life.
10. Doesn't take advantage of the fact he could easily assassinate Celestia and take over Equestria.
11. Saved the crystal empire.
12. Holds his friends dearly, and did everything to help Sunset when everyone else was ignoring how much she was suffering from Spike's influence.
13. Gets upset when he sees people he sees as innocent or powerless hurt.
14. He has gone out of his way to be loyal to Twilight, when that was the accepted moral, despite being a succubus sex queen with an infinite appetite for love.
15. He worried about hurting Twilight's feelings.
16. He worried about his friends.
17. He worried about whether or not he's doing the right thing.
18. Was willing to put himself in the way to save Equestria and help his friend.
18. Refuses to take advantage of Celestia's vulnerability in other more subtle ways than assassination.
Fae has some redeeming qualities in his moral character and history.
Now let's get into the social and sexual status, which people care about in a sexual partner, when you're actually thinking of having sex with or dating or marrying. This is just stuff I can pull off the top of my head regarding Fae in that dynamic.
1. He's a changeling queen, the changeling queen.
2. He's a princess of Equestria.
3. He showed the capability and will to save Equestria multiple times.
4. He's super sexy hot.
5. Dash enjoys spending time around him.
6. He can fly and do magic.
7. He has connections all the way up to the top of Equestria, including Celestia.
8. He's shown himself to be intelligent and competent, and willing to lead.
9. Despite being ridiculously hot, he's humble about it to the point of naivete. So he's hot and approachable.
10. He can mindfuck you to orgasm.
11. He can be any gender.
12. He can literally be anyone you'd want to have sex with.
13. He practically rules over two nations, one in entirety and the other partially.
14. He has the effective processing power of a supercomputer at his hooves.
15. He can learn skills instantaneously through the hive network.
16. He has access to a perfectly organized set of labor numbering in the thousands.
17. Not only is he exotic by being a succubus sex queen, but he's also an alien from another dimension – the only one known to exist in equestria – a unique existence (not counting that sunset has the body of a human from another dimension, but is actually a pony on the inside).
18. When problems need to be solved, you can rely upon him.
19. Twilight's circle of friends generally approve of him.
20. He's shown himself to have a unique opinion on matters and is willing to express it.
21. He sung the greatest song ever sung, and made it super sexy.
It doesn't make any sense for Dash to be turned off about Fae. Simplifying it down to "He's a scumbag and doesn't deserve Dash?" – That seems premature, once you start putting together a larger data set. It doesn't seem that simple to me.
It's not just 'love for no reason'; Fae has genuine value despite his vices. That's the reason why Twilight and Dash are in love with him.
And if Fae thinks to himself that he doesn't deserve Twilight, then it says more about him than Twilight. It shows that he's capable of gratitude, humility and valuing others. Those are considered generally 'good' moral traits, not 'evil' ones.
As for whether 'he deserves her' or not, that's something to debate objectively outside of his head. There is more than one opinion on that; Twilight obviously thinks that he does deserve her, and she probably has the most important subjective opinion in that context.
There is another issue with that you mentioned, The Letter J, that I would like to address. In your comment, you basically say “even if someone's a jerk, then it doesn't mean they are wrong.” Well, that's true. I also didn't do that. You get a philosophy degree and that's the first rule you learn, because there will be a ton of people you have to debate who act like tact only exists in some other possible universe. I didn't know how bad RealityCheck was until this happened; the event piqued my curiosity. I wrote those comments before I started doing a little research. I mentioned that in the comment you responded to.
But let me turn that around as well. That I now know about RealityCheck's racist statements, his bigoted statements, his bizarre selective history and knee-jerk opinions, and his desire to go out and abuse and bully people doesn't change the validity of my statements. Just because someone knows that someone else is offensive, doesn't mean that their statements are invalid.
And this --
I think it's more complicated than that. I don't agree with what you're inferring about Fae's behavior. I talked about in this comment 5049128 . I don't think he's culpable for this situation. He had some minor influence, but most of what he did was getting pissed off in his head. He didn't do that much. He was basically victimized, and saw someone he cared about being victimized, complained about it, and then mentioned genuine problems that Spike had. Spike dug his own grave. And the solution that Twilight came up with made sense just out of regarding the fairly objective assessment of the situation. Twilight could have come up with a different solution. Celestia also approved. Twilight must have talked to Celestia about it, and it makes sense that she also talked to the Mane 6 about a major decision like this. Fae could have helped in a unique way I think by being the 'bad cop' like I talked about in my comment, but it wasn't his ballgame. He didn't have the position or duty to do it. It would have been awkward as hell.
Spike is not the victim here. Blaming Fae for the outcome of this situation, would be like getting angry at a rape victim for the rapist getting sent to jail. It's just bizarre.
I'm just repeating stuff from my earlier comment. It'd be easier just to read that comment.
As for the resolution, Fae has this character trait where he seems to take responsibility for things that aren't really his responsibility because he ends up feeling strongly about it, and I think that's really what's going to happen. He feels empathy for Spike, so he feels compelled to think about it until he does something about it. So, my prediction is that Fae will work himself into a neurotic frenzy until he fixes it.
And then it blows up in his face... Well, that's wishful thinking on my part because I love explosions.
Still a better love story than Twilight.
Love the reference :3
5083238
I think that we have basically been talking about two different things, and perhaps not entirely realizing that the other person wasn't on the same page.
I'd just like to point out that pretty much everything on that list of good things he's done as been for one of the mane six or the princesses. It's like I said earlier, Fae will do anything for the ponies he loves or cares about, but he generally has no issue with screwing over anyone else.
Now maybe you're right about him and Dash. Honestly, you probably are. But the fact still remains that Fae is pretty much a jerk, and I'm sure that's going to come back to bite him someday. Maybe it will come from Spike, maybe it will come from somewhere else, I don't know, but I'll be surprised if it doesn't happen.
Now when I said that Fae and Spike will learn to get along, that had less to do with my opinions of their characters and more to do with the story itself. (Though looking at their characters, I still think that Fae would be willing to do almost anything to get on Twilight's family's good side, just because it would make Twilight happy.) I'm pretty sure that in every chapter since Spike left, Fae has questioned whether or not he did the right thing and/or Twilight has mentioned how much she misses him. And then in this chapter, Big Mac told him he did the wrong thing. It really looks to me like this is all foreshadowing some sort of reconciliation between the two of them at some point in the future.
And this story seems to want to give everyone who isn't ridiculously evil (which is basically just Chrysalis, the guy who summoned that demon, that guy in Tambelon, probably Discord, and Flash Sentry so far) a happy ending. So I can't really see it ending with Spike and Twilight's parents still hating Fae.
I really really like this story, and have been binge reading it and its predecessor all week. It deserves far more than the 360 thumbs up it has so far received. That said...
5074628
Okay, two things to start with...
1) Wiping out the bats was listed by THE AUTHOR as one of the nasty, evil and/or dumb things that Fae has done.
2) A species that eats plants is called a herbivore, not a parasite. As a rule fruit is juicy because plants 'want' herbivores and omnivores to eat them. It helps spread seeds around, and is also a pretty reliable source of fertilizer. This kind of thing is also called a a symbiotic relationship, not a parasitic one.
Now based on the episode we saw, there were less than 20 bats in the entire swarm. By contrast the Apples have something like 20 bijillion acres of apple trees. The bats represented zero threat to her livelihood, and were only a threat to her prize apple because she was too lazy to put some bat proof chicken wire around it. Any historical threat they once posed is neutralised due to Twilight's magic and Fluttershy's animal empathy skills. Applejack was absolutely bucking nuts to pretend otherwise.
Now maybe in this story there were more than 20 bats. But wiping them all out in the dead of night is still a very silly way of solving the problem. Supposing one had survived, and Flutters had found out. Yeah, that would not have ended well... Animal welfare aside, ecological relationships between species are often complex and subtle. What happens to the critters who eat the bats for example? For that matter where are the critters who eat the bats?)
People who don't understand the complexities of ecological systems, such as Fae, Applejack, the vast majority of farmers that have ever lived, and possibly yourself Mr Phoneix, often end up shooting themselves in the foot and causing larger problem than they fix when they try and implement 'simple and obvious' solutions. People like that often will actually wipe the bees out too because they don't understand what they're doing and/or don't care. What Fae did was very much a changling solution, but it was not a sensible or rational one, whether Omni understood that or not.
This story gives me the wierdest boners.
5434439 i'm glad i'm not the only one.
google.com/url?sa=i&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CAUQjBw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.fjcdn.com%2Fcomments%2FThis%2Bis%2Bthe%2Bbest%2Bthing%2Bi%2Bve%2Bread%2Ball%2Bweek%2B_d720d4a7e08a111119ea05407a961b15.jpg&ei=JDbIVNeNEYyqgwSC2ILACQ&psig=AFQjCNH-42otUwUePojj-fLM2WedNB1xLQ&ust=1422493604373433
Hmm... looks like this rainbow has the old 'runs away from her emotions' thing going on. And from her reactions, I cant help but wonder if she thinks she wont be able to compete with Twilight on the whole 'touchy feel'y' front.
Edit. Called it.
This is turning into an Harem story, i would have sopped reading if it wasn't because I love the Sunset subplot.
Still a better love story then Twilight.
5810115 the Twilight love story was better than Twilight.
BRAIN DO U EVEN
Twilight the book was better then Twilight the movie so yes i agree with Tia
5089026 disagree with you there. History says that the vampire bats have been a great threat to the farm. so Fae and AJ are in the right.
6199307
History shows nothing. AJs 'remembers' that a certain number of bats are a threat. Unless that number is 'less than twenty' then her memories aren't relevant, and that assumes the memories are actually true or accurate, and not a scare story told to her by Granny Smith. Funny how the one pony with actual knowledge of that incident is absent from the episode, wasn't it? (And how Twilight jumps straight to magic rather than fact checking either of them.) Applejack's schitck is honesty, not knowledge, and she has a history of over reacting to things. In the long term though, Fluttershy seems to have been right. It's been over a season since that episode and the farm is still there. Huh. The animal expert being right about animals. Who'd have thought it?
In a few months time it'll be fun to play the Compare And Contrast game with this and the upcoming changeling episode. AJ logic says that because lots of changing were once a threat, we must ruthlessly stamp out a smaller number. "Kill the drone. Kill the drone. Kill the kill the. Kill the drone..."
Much as I liked Flutterbat, this episode looks like it started with that idea, and then paid only lip service to the friendship conflict it invents as an excuse to get to the transformation scene, before shoving it aside completely . That's not how FIM stories typically go. And i think that was a weakness of this episode and that the conflict would have been more interesting. Flutterbat should have been given her own episode, preferably one taken away from Spike.
For the population problem, l propose the American solution:. Throw money at it
Pay 1,000,000 bits for an acceptable substitute for Willy Weed or a way to cultivate it.
Pay a bonus for mares to have foals.
Polygamy (already started)
Tax breaks for raising foals, including adopted ones
Pay for this with a tax on mares with no foals & a BIG tax on unwed stallions.

Sparkling vampires are an affront to everything and should be obliterated and any who disagree with me should be as well. Twilight vampires are bad period.
7739103 Ohoho!
You know what's good
'Sparkaly boyfriend' ... Not sure if that is a Twilight reference. Never watched that crap. If it is all I can say to Fae is "WTF were you thinking". At least let her wtch something with substance. 'Ghost', 'Sleepless in Seattle' or 'Shrek' would have been a better choice.
