Just an average writer of fanfics. My archenemy: Procrastination.

Inspired by a lecture my dad gave me after consuming 1.5 bottle's worth of rice wine. Also a little something for Christmas Eve and Day.

Scootaloo was on top of the world. Showered with praise at the Equestrian Games, became closer to her idol, and learned an important lesson in the process. To celebrate the success of their performance at the Crystal Empire, the CMC, with the aid of Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie, launch a party at Sweet Apple Acre.

But even with all the festivities, Scootaloo's self-doubt had not completely disappeared. Even before the bullying, the idea of never joining Rainbow in the sky, no matter how hard she tried, left a hole in her stomach. After all, what more can you do but your best?

Wandering around the barn, she discovers a curious hobby of Big Macintosh's. Just to be fair like the cool pony she is, Scootaloo reveals a secret of her own, and learns from the stallion just what mere hard work can do.

That's a good lesson. Unless it is impossible for Scoot's to fly under her own power.

Yeah, but does the moral of "trying hard to do something unless that thing's impossible" more worthy of the rating "Everyone" than "try and do it regardless of the odds"?:applecry:

I don't really get it, but at least Scoots seems happy.

This story is fantastic. Excellent job, author :yay:

Pity it's so damn underrated it hurts... :fluttershyouch:

Thanks for the kind words. But yeah, I bet people group one-shots like these as the same as all the others, so they don't bother looking closely at each individual one.

With that in mind, how did you find this story anyways?

3696322 That lovely little group called Anti-Depression Ponies. And this story fits square into its premise :pinkiehappy:

This was a pretty good story. I found Big Macintosh's advice to Scootaloo spot-on and heartwarming... similar to some things I was told growing up as well. Mac as a cartoonist is something I've never seen before, but I thought it was pretty awesomely presented here. :pinkiehappy: (My own headcanon is that he can make things with his hooves—wood carvings, jewelry, etc.—but that he keeps that to himself as well.)

The narrative was pretty good and the dialogue didn't feel forced at all. I spotted some minor issues with occasional comma misuse, occasional missed periods (LOL), and an instance where "Tell" was written as "ell," but other that that, no complaints from me.

Keeping this in my faves! A shame it hasn't received the attention it deserves.

I love motivational stories like these. Try more than your best.

Best story I've read in a long time.:yay:

hmm maybe in two three year i should start carrying logs of wooden mass... :D (not using the smily faces)
well i need to toughtin upp when i move to a new school

fantastic story! extremely heartwarming, and I admit I got a laugh out of Big Mac being a stickler for grammar. :rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh:

ive been kicking this idea around in my head for a while now. I may have a possible solution for scootaloos flight handicap. I wonder if scootaloo would qualify for princess lunas night guard? it demands a transformation of sorts, but it might rectify scootaloos flight problems. what do you think?

This is one of a small number of fics that mentions the Apple Family parents that I feel could still potentially be canon even after Perfect Pear, which makes it extra special.
