I'm pretty sure they also stated that that was Rainbow Dash first ever race, and that could very well have been the first time Rainbow and Fluttershy ever met for all we know.
Plus, Rainbow's dad (or at least a relative) has a rainbow mane, more than enough reason to believe that she was born with it, would be way too much of a coincidence to make sense.
But either way, I don't think this is enough to need an Alternate Universe tag, if every story that has a couple of details that doesn't fully work with canon had an Alternate Universe tag, there probably wouldn't be many stories without one. This world can easily become one that's identical to the canon one, so why bother.

This one...eh. Some of the character interaction was good but I felt like you should have expanded on a few things. Like RD's mom's death, you'd think that it would have somewhat of a big deal to her, but it gets shrugged off until one scene in which she's crying. Plus, rainbows having a healing power? That's a bit of a stretch, even in a land of magic talking ponies.

I decided to read this again, and it was still as enjoyable as ever. My only complaints would be what 4510169 had to say. There wasn't enough detail concerning her mom's death. Still, 9/10 rainbows!
