You as the reader go in and immerse yourself in a world of literature to lose yourself for a bit. That's not what this story is about. This is about Spike and Twilight.

What's the difference is supposed to be? That's exactly why I need to know more about them, to be able to immerse myself in their story. Especially when the author is working on a very different and personal version of such characters.

Twilight and Spike have done nothing that would require they explain anything about their physiology or at least Twilight hasn't

I have some mixed feelings on chapter two. No, not because of Spike's innocence. Dr. Feldman and Dra. Papalia, would certainly approve it.
But stuff like: There are only 3 ponies in all of Equestria who know Spike is a dragon. And all that it implies.
Spike being friend and hang out with a group of grown up women. Wich could be questionable in so many levels.
And I don't get it... When Spike first goes to wake up Twilight she is naked, right? Then they go to eat breakfast, and I'm to believe she got herself something to wear. But later on she is naked again. How is that supposed to work?
Among other stuff. Still, I'm enjoying this story a lot. And I do believe you have potential.

Why is it so hard to find fanfics on this fandom that claim to be tragic, and are truly tragic? I'm sorry my Lady, but this wasn't tragic. Nor Sad. This was dull, pretentious and extremely forced. Not even Shyamalan himself could have come up with such a bad twist.
Why is it so hard to explain Spike why they can't be toghether? Why can't she just ask him to wait? Why doesn't she remove her own memories of the last few days? That would make far more sense. If ponies hate/fear dragons so much, how can Twilight and/or Celestia let Spike go play around the city by himself? And she took aways ALL of his memories? You do realize that would mean Spike won't even remember who Twilight and therefore he's gonna be really afraid (among other things) of her tomorrow morning? Come to think of it. How is Twilight going to explain to Celestia, Joe or anyone else that all of a sudden Spike knows nothing about her? Sure, Lelouch did the same with Shirley on Code Geass. But they didn't live/grew up toghether, to begin with!

I'm sorry. I should have seen this coming. Authors on this site, almost every time, tend to ruin their own stories when they try to come up with a 'Tragic ending'. And sadly, now I need to add this story to the list.

That aside, let me try and answer some of the misconceptions in this post. It's not difficult to explain to Spike why they can't be together, he already knows they can't be. I guess I didn't really hit on the point clear enough... Yet. Also she hasn't taken all the memories of her, but the emotions behind the memories. But there is going to be a shift in character which will make it so much easier to lie to Celestia.
I was trying to make this even a little sad. So I guess I failed on that point. This only means I can get better. Thank you for the input. I actually have been geeking out that you actually reviewed my story. So seriously thank you.

The thing about Tragedy is that you can’t create it the same way you create Action, Slapstick, Gore or Porn, which are all very self-explanatory. But tragedy is a science of its own. It is not enough to describe the event (except when dealing with this fandom, as I already explain). You have to explain WHY the event is supposed to be tragic in the eyes of the characters and the audience, and give them reasons to believe so.
The reason why this ending doesn’t work as a tragedy it’s because when I ask myself ‘Why did this happen, and why should I feel sad about it?’, I can’t find a better answer than ‘Because the author wanted it that way’.

Granted, that technically is more or less the explanation for everything that has ever happened in any fictional story. But in Full Metal Alchemist for example, we are presented to the story of two brothers who devote their lives to find a way to bring their mother back from the dead. But instead of being rewarded by their efforts, the resurrection is a tremendous disaster that almost kills both brothers and sets them on a new journey full of danger, adventures and sorrow. It was all for the sake of the plot of course. But it was very well paced and justified, allowing the audience to connect with both the story and the characters.

In this case however, right out of the blue Twilight decides to take the most drastic, painful and IRRATIONAL course of action available. Something that at this point is not such a big deal, cuz it is what she’s been doing the whole story anyway. On top of that, we have to listen to Twilight ramble again and again about how self-aware she is that she is doing something very coward, horrible and evil, and therefore she is a very, very coward, horrible and evil pony. Once again, this is something Twilight’s been doing the whole story: Feel sorry for herself.
So yeah. By the end, all that Twilight does and feels is kind of more of the same. And with the lack of consistency on top, it feels forced and not as interesting as it was before.

It could have totally been an awesome bitter/tragic ending. But it wasn’t the right execution.
But once again I repeat. The story isn’t bad. And with a sequel coming up, maybe this ending will redeem itself and serve some a purpose. But that’s tomorrow. And I can’t wait for it.
