Inb4 Luna attacks the ghouls in Underworld.
3376552
Or they go back to Megaton and she meets Gob. Although, the Tennpenny quest will probably go MUCH easier now.
Yahhh Lasers!!!
Lasers?
Only people in the Capital Wasteland with lasers are BoS, some Talon Mercs, and some high-ranking Mutants.
This is seriously cool.
Calling it now, Nightmare Sarah.
Actually, I meant to ask you something regarding the weapons.
Will you include weapons from New Vegas as well?
Technically, the only reason those weapons weren't in FO3 was because no one thought of them yet.
In the Fallout universe however, the weapons should be across the entire nation, especially in the capital of the country.
Now, I don't mean any unique weapons or anything.
But the different unarmed weapons, like displacer gloves or ballistic fists.
Or the various rifles, like the anti-materiel, trail, brush, marksman, or assault rifles.
I mean, just look at the FO:NV weapons list compared to the FO3 one.
3376552
Oh, oh, OH!
I see your underworld, and raise you.....
A DUNWICH BUILDING.
3376727
Well a few things, such as assault carbines and multiplas rifles, were still in the development phases when the bombs fell. The only reason you come across them in NV is that the West has recovered enough to start manufacturing them.
3376795
While it is true that the Gun Runners are able to manufacture pretty much any Gun (with the Van Graff and Brotherhood covering the Energy), I find that reasoning flawed. Why would Washington D.C, the capital of the United States, not have its troops equipped with the most up to date weaponry?
Trail carbines and other high end guns like anti-materiel rifles were probably widespread throughout the U.S military and the populace as a whole, along with the other more common guns.
The point of my original question was that I just didn't want to see Sarah just using a generic named 'combat shotgun', but start from a sawn off, to a single barrel, to a double, lever, hunting, and then riot.
I just want to see more variety.
3376828
The bulk of the fighting was taking place in China (and for a good while Alaska), which meant it made more sense for all the neat high-tech stuff to be on the West Coast. What was kept on the East Coast would have been more along the lines of reserve weaponry in case things went south.
I will concede the lack of lever-action guns in Fallout 3 to be annoying though.
I hope Luna doesn't slaughter underworld.
so Sarah will meet Sarah.... interesting
3376828 To answer your question, probably because DC wasn't a theater of the war. Yes, DC is the political capital, but that doesn't mean they get the best stuff first. The only real fighting (that we know of) was in Anchorage, and any other Chinese invasion would've come from the West. DC would probably be the least likely to get new/upgraded weapons, while army depots in, say, California or Alaska would be the first.
And then of course, better guns wouldn't have done anything against nukes.
Radiation doesn't cause cancer, not in Fallout universe, remember Falloutverse runs on 50s SCIENCE!
3376897
Hmmm.....
Your reasoning with the Chinese Western invasion is sound, but I still think, in the Pre-War Fallout universe, Washington D.C would have more than just the generic Assault Rifle you find in the game, and I'm just talking about the military grade weapons. What about 12.7 and .45 mm SMGs, and the new explosive weaponry introduced, like the Grenade Launchers and such?
There are around, what, 4 actual forts in the D.C area, an armory, and to top it all off, the Pentagon? And none of these locations had any of the weaponry I speak of?
And what about the low-tier, 'civilian' weaponry? No .357 Magnums or other such handguns? Why wouldn't there be the various shotguns that were found in New Vegas be found in the D.C area, like hunting shotguns? Granted, that's not low-tier, but its very name implies civilian use. How about the Cowboy Repeater? The name denotes a western flair, true, but its just a lever-action rifle, much like the more powerful Trail Carbine and Brush gun, and I don't think those were exactly military weapons either, and indeed, such a weapon was included in the Point Lookout DLC.
And to finish it off, like I mentioned in a previous post, what about the Unarmed/Melee weaponry?
Those two fields were greatly expanded upon in New Vegas, compared to the paltry selection from Fallout 3. No Ballistic Fists or Displacer Gloves, or even a simple Bladed Gauntlet? No Fire Axe for when Sarah gets chop-happy? Not even a Bowie Knife, an item that theoretically should have been a part of every Pre-War soldier's kit?
Do you see where I'm going with this? Why should the author limit the weaponry and other such items because they were not shown in one particular game of the series? We know they exist in the Fallout universe as a whole, but for some reason the game developers kept the weapon selection a bit more generic.
......Damn, I think I just went on a rant. Don't hate me.
3377019 Yes, I see your points there. As for the last question, well, it's the authors choice. It's a choice between sticking to canon (well, as canon as you can get with a Pony Princess), or create something else. If we don't like their choice, oh well; we can't stop them.
3377031
No truer words have been spoken.
But really, I just want to see Luna with a Displacer Glove, or a chainsaw, or a Thermic Lance.
Or all, depending on how much she could levitate.
And Sarah.....Sarah can get a Brush Gun and a Riot Shotgun.
Unless she goes Energy, than Plasma and Gauss (Anchorage Gauss, not the shitty Vegas one!) all the way.
I'm hoping, sometime in a far off chapter, Fawkes joins them.
Oh, and meeting Harold.
3376739 Mother of God... Could you imagine that? I'd love to see her reaction to that place. I dare say even the Nightmare would have second thoughts.
3377050
Alhazred.....
Alhazred.......
Alhazred!!!
3376664 well you normally meet the first group of brotherhood guys at the other end of the metro. Although the idea of Nightmare Moon with a laser riffle is an interesting one, and when she makes the jump up to plasma... I now have a mental image of Celestia turning into a puddle of green ooze.
MOAR!
Dang smooth skins…From that reaction it will be interesting to see Luna’s meet a non-feral ghoul.
Plus technically ghouls aren't un-dead, just pointing that out.
In reality, a Stimpak shouldn't be instant healing. Gradual healing seems more realistic and it would mean avoiding combat from the characters for a bit. From what New Vegas' hardcore mode teaches, you gotta be wise about entering combat. Stimpaks are kind of expensive in that game already and can be hard to come by in the middle of the Mojave. I'm only suggesting that your characters don't just shoot up 80 Stims and heal their wounds.
How I like to think of it is the Stimpak injecting some sort of Monocyte breeder--fighting off infections and inflammation--along with providing enhanced cell regeneration to the targeted area. Hence why the process should take a little while, in my opinion.
Just something to think about.
I understand she was carrying them in her bag, but damn. That's a 50lbs bag she has there. I just want you to realize that the story should show a bit more realism compared to the game. I assume she was carrying the bag on her back and you can get away with it this time, but next time try to not make her carry so much. She may not be smart but any idiot knows that carrying too much = bad stuff.
Oh, boy. I do hope you don't give Luna power armour, or something. She's semi-op right now and if she can just shape armour to fit her, this may be a problem. Also, try not to use magic as every solution. Sarah could've just used bits of raider armour or simply finding more Talon armour down the road for Luna.
In the Fallout universe, whenever referring to the pre-War era with "old world," it needs to be capitalized. Old World. From what I've noticed, anyways.
It doesn't need to be explained, but, the Pip-Boy keeps track of radiation through bio-metrics. How will Sarah figure that out concerning Luna? I mean, a doctor's visit once and a while couldn't hurt.
3377432
I Think the author should consider, if you have played in Hardcore mode on the hardest difficulty in New Vegas, as the standard for realism. From my understanding, if she is just doing the Super Duper Mart Quest, it is unlikely that she would have a lot of gear, and while Talon Armor is heavy, Sarah was trained, and probably worked out as a police officer. As someone who used to carry 50lb bags of sugar/flour under each arm, its not that heavy.
Totally agree, I was expecting Sarah to make patchwork makeshift armor. I think it should be downright exhausting to use any magic of this scale. Like, I can't move for multiple hours, exhaustion. Also, stretching the armor like that inherently makes it weaker and much less protective. It's POSSIBLE to do this realistically, for this armor because it's composite material. No armor thats solid, such as metal or power armor, will mold as easily without compromising the structural integrity.
3377432 Even if she gets it, without training it'll just be 50 pounds of useless metal.
3377403
True, but she just assumed they were going by the look
3377432
Don't worry about that, there won't be an overuse of stimpacks
I'll refer you to AtrumVenator's comment above for that
3377432 3377586
Yeah, if she ever gets power armor it'll be at the absolute end of the story when it's actually needed.
Yep, magic won't be the solution for everything and Atrum is right about that, the talon armor was moldable, power armor on the other hand... isn't.
3376739 That place is bad mojo. Let's go!
Great story so far. I am enjoying how you are portraying the wanderer and Luna. Is the nightmare a seperate entity here or just another part of Luna? would explain why she wasn't purified. I can't wait to see Luna's reaction to non-feral ghouls.
oh i would like to say when you go to the dc where the radio news is at you can find an assault rifle outside the subway you see one laying upright with 2 clip of ammo with it
I can foresee problems arising due to Luna's... lack of appreciation for the 'undead'. Anyways, I enjoyed the chapter, and if there will be lasers, then next chapter will be even better!
Give Luna lasers. I wanna see everyone die.
3377045
Screw Gauss, get Elijah's Energy Rifle with Max Power MFC. Then let Luna use it because companion weapons don't degrade.
3378726
Agreed.
Lasers? FUCK YEAH LAZERS!
3384760 eh....unless this story carries over into new Vegas with the 'wanderer is courier' theme, unique or very specific dlc weapons shouldn't show up. Although a FIDO would be hilarious, and Luna's reaction to a trauma harness suit would be interesting, considering the ghoul incident.
Incidentally, why is everyone BUT the author responding to me?
Vagas guns FTW you need more guns than just the random shitty ones in 3 unless you add alien stuff it will get a bit boring thats the only reason i like nv more( well besides veronicas happiness shes the high moral one like Louis and Ellis from l4d) aagh ranting ill shut up now
3385306
Pray that it's because the author is writing the next chapter.
3385306
Cause I wanted to see you flounder (Nah, cause I was thinking of an answer and that answer is that I don't know yet)
3386041
It's already written but won't be up till Monday
3386095
And that answer is perfectly fine.
As long as you take what I said under consideration, I'm good.
3386095
sad face
3386848
Thanks for the clarification (I suppose it shows just how bad I would have been at middle english since I misidentified it in the first place) heh
I hope you continue to enjoy the story, I've worked really hard to make everything as perfect as I can
As for the last point, I try and keep my words varied when I refer to characters so I try not to refer to them by their names too much. Too much Sarah is repetiative (at least in my opinion), but I'll try and tone it down a bit in the future (as of unwritten) chapers
Nice chapter. They should probably keep the guns used by the mutants, after all Luna needs some artillery, too.
3377019
As far as weaponry, I can kind'a see Luna going with lasers, as a contrast to Sarah's guns. Power Glove would have certain issues, and Luna's already a melee build if Daybreaker is any indication. Power armour of any kind is another issue--it's not just plates, it's servos. Hence why you need training to wear it. And who the hell is going to custom-build T-45d armour for a horse? I don't remember if the Brotherhood was able to build new suits or anything like that, but for a nonhuman it might be beyond their reach.
Some NV weapons I can see making their way, although not all. And naturally the unique weapons are called that for a reason. The energy weapons, for the most part, stayed the 'same', I think. And there might be another factor in the games: flavour. You have a gun called a COWBOY repeater, and a perk named COWBOY. Not the usual thing one finds in Washington, DC. I can imagine a few weapons being present in both areas, though--mostly Old World military, and civilian stuff that a typical Virginia resident would have in an urban setting, at a guess.
3394823
Thank you so much, I was really worried that I hadn't handled it right
Give a man a loaded gun and he now possesses the power to kill another man.
Give Luna a Gatling Laser and I can pretty much guarantee over 90% of the Wasteland's Ghoul population will be Swiss Cheese by the end of the week.
3377019
The reason combat armor, frag grenade and R91 are so common in D.C. is because the National Guards were deployed the few hours before the bombs fell to help the evacuation.
In comparison, combat armor is much rarer in Mojave (Whereas in D.C., every single security guard in both Rivet City and Tenpenny tower have it. Not to mention all the Talon mercs.) So is frag grenade, and R91 is virtually non-existant. So we can assume that those are all National Guard equipment.
You don't drink RadAway. It's an intravenous.
3415258
Oh. That explains my sixth toe...
This is just awesome, Luna and this whole scenario is just epic. I love it!
Give Luna, like many have said a Gatling laser~ XD that would rock!
But, this story has already reached like 50 something chapter, sooo. XD hehe.
Good work once more, this is getting more awesome by the minute.
3377019 Coming from a raging fallout 2 fan: GIVE THEM A HOLY HAND GRENADE
