How is preening clop?

Not sure what the dislikes are for, I thought it was good :twilightblush:

I don't know either. I wish they would tell me so I could improve my writing. :fluttercry:

I thought this was pretty well written. No complaints, honestly. Keep up the good work. Also, I think the dislikes may be because of the way RD was portrayed. I guess it would be something of a headcanon clash, since most ponies see Dashie as a more 'streetwise' filly, even at a younger age. I feel it was handled well, so strong headcanon's are probably a big part in the number of dislikes. In other words, more premise than execution. But that might just be me. :twilightsheepish:

Hey, my picture!
Anyway, I did enjoy this, even though it felt a bit rushed. You really captured the 'first time' feeling. Good job.

I wondered what made Rainbow Dash and Gilda friends in the first place, and I imagined that Dash was simply young, and she idolized the cooler and older griffon despite the fact that she has a bad attitude and she is a dangerous influence. :rainbowderp:

I suppose I could have explored this concept more. I could have shown the consequences, both internally and externally, of this kind of experience, but I intentionally set out to do mindless clop, in the case of this story.

Sometimes a man just feels like writing mindless clop :p

this was actually interesting...mostly because I found it interesting that rainbow dash is running around my screen as I read it.

Came here from the TwiJack one, and while this is just as well-written, I can't say I enjoyed it nearly as much. Probably the same reason as many of the downvotes (though I didn't vote either way - only really atrocious stuff gets a downvote from me). I think, as others have suggested, it's a matter of premise rather than presentation.

First there's the age issue, which comes in two parts - that they're this young at all (while age isn't specified, they're definitely a few years younger than on the show), and that Gilda is a bit older. Gilda's age difference combined with Rainbow Dash's naïveté make the entire encounter feel a bit creepy. Add in the fact that Gilda was an antagonist on the show, which could bias readers against her to begin with, and I can see how some might take it badly enough to vote it down.

At this point, the downvotes are roughly where I would expect them to be.

About 60% of those downvotes happened in the first ten minutes, though, which is why at the beginning of the comments there are a bunch of 'WTF why so many downvotes?'

How have I not read this before?

Quite a good story

Oh yes. Gilda was an antagonist on the show, yet Rainbow's so-called friends made up a superhero persona all for the sake of making Rainbow Dash learn a lesson about being humble when it is clear that Rainbow Dash relies on the approval of others to feel good about herself. If that type of shit had happened in real life, you can bet that Rainbow Dash would have either killed herself or Mare Do Well before all was said and done. Why? Because when someone who relies on the approval of others to feel good about themselves to the extent that Rainbow Dash does suddenly loses that approval from EVERYBODY, it sends them into a catastrophic depression.

Eh...if anyone was a bad influence on anyone in that friendship, it was obviously Rainbow Dash who was the bad influence.
