Baby Boo

tacos is the new muffins!

E

When troubled dreams lead to onstage accidents, Luna advises Trixie to think deeply on the magic of friendship. Trixie ponders her errors and realizes what she must do: swallow her pride, atone for her misdeeds in Ponyville, and befriend the ponies she has wronged...

... and then the power of the Elements of Harmony will be hers!

Sounds promising. It's not often a fic hands Trixie an appreciative audience post-Ponyville. I'm interested to see how Luna's introduction will play out.

Obviously, Trixie´s nightmares will catch her attention.

Jeez - i'm favoriting this already just on the basis of how well written this first chapter is (though admittedly I do use my favorite less as a 'favorite' and more as a way of tracking fics which have caught my interest. So... consider my interest caught.)

And it's totally not because of how much the image of Trixie hiding under her blankets makes me go d'aaaaaaw.

Nodnod -- the tracking system is useful, but calling it 'favorites' is somewhat misleading. And thank you!

And it's totally not because of how much the image of Trixie hiding under her blankets makes me go d'aaaaaaw.

Totally not.

The cover picture alone has me sold on this.

Hope the story can live up to it! :pinkiehappy:

For some reason, I found the 'tumbling off the stage' part to be quite funny.

Unrepentantly bombastic Trixie is best Trixie. :rainbowkiss:

You have my attention. And my favorite.

...And my watch, since I just noticed you wrote "My Little Pony's Little Ponies".

Buckle up ladles and mentlegents, we're in for a ride with Trixie and her insane logic.

I guess that first performance must burn her up.

A wonderful intro and setup.

I echo 2657266 in that it's far too much fun to picture Trixie poking her nose out of her covers. We've all been there...

Also good to see a Trixie that's learned from her past mistakes but hasn't completely changed her attitude. The Repentant and Humbled Trixie is no fun at all.

I'm really eager to see how this turns out! The promise of friendship shenanigans, the same thing that drew me into "My Little Pony's Little Ponies", is looking good!

This looks like it's going to be loads of fun.

The Dark Overmare of Ponyville

Also, this line right here was great, it's a cool idea to use that part of her past as a magic show selling point.

Cool, the whole package! :yay:

Yep, in this one Trixie has learned some lessons but she certainly hasn't Learned Her Lesson. It may or may not, in the end, be a 'Trixie redemption story', but it's definitely not a story about Trixie suddenly becoming meek and modest.

I echo >> AngryDesu in that it's far too much fun to picture Trixie poking her nose out of her covers.

I was picturing it all so much from Trixie's perspective that I didn't even realize how cute she was being, all scared of the dark. But you're right... it is pretty d'aww. :derpytongue2:

For some reason, I found the 'tumbling off the stage' part to be quite funny.

It's 'cuz you're terrible. :rainbowlaugh:

*Hat-bop*

Also, this line right here was great, it's a cool idea to use that part of her past as a magic show selling point.

Thanks! That bit was inspired by magicians of the 19th and early 20th century who used a lot of infernal and demonic imagery in their public images -- which seems like it would go over very badly in Victorian-era middle America, but it sold tickets just fine. If Harry Kellar or Carter the Great had ever done anything like Trixie's little incident in Ponyville, they would have been all over advertising it.

The only monster I had under my bed was my younger brother, so I feel almost jealous.

Have you ever considered submitting this fanfic to Equestria Daily? You can find out how to do so here.

2662667
Considering it, certainly, but I think I'll hold off until I have at least the first three chapters up -- that'll be about when the 'setup' part is done and the story proper gets rolling.

2662430 Well Trixie sure gets all fired up over nothing.

I hope her flair for the creative survives the heat.

I bet she smokes her competition
:pinkiehappy:

2665224
Now you're doing it too. Things are certainly heating up in here.
:pinkiecrazy:

2665781

Though I don't understand how a dream about having an adoring crowd for once is a BAD dream... I might've missed something, though.

Ooch... I think you might've uncovered a big crack in the chapter's structure there. What I intended was that the first few paragraphs, about Las Pegasus, would be a general 'establishing shot' of Trixie's situation, and then the part where she wakes up is the start of the actual action. But now that you've pointed it out, I can see where it would be easy to think that the opening was supposed to be part of her dream. Hmm, gonna have to revise that somehow.

Also, why do I get the feeling that Two Bits might have a crush on Trixie?

Heh heh heh, well naturally I won't say yes or no on that, but I will say that Bitsy's part in the story won't be over after his brief appearance in Las Pegasus.

2665270
You might think you're hot stuff, but take care not to make an ash of yourself. :rainbowwild:

Good start: is the jellyfied audience's resemblance to the Smooze ( http://villains.wikia.com/wiki/Smooze ) a hint of things to come, AKA a Chekhov's gun, or just a coincidence?

2668885

Heh heh heh, that would be telling. *sinister wink*

2669112

A candle? That's... *puts on sunglasses* ... wicked.

The Great and Powerful Trixie is obviously a superior friend somehow...

*thinks*

Dunno how, though.

That just got a tad bit more serious, from how the dream sequence played out it sounds like Trixie has some lingering psychological issues from her time wearing the amulet.

There is no possible way a plan to acquire the mane 5 as friends could go wrong. *nods*

So i'm guessing Trixie is going to look for friends. Oh man this is going to be a riot and with her night time friend looking out for her.

Just picturing filly Trixie scowling, god that would be cute.

2751104
oh the pun it sustains me even now. :pinkiehappy:

I would say you'll need those sunglasses but I suppose that's waxing it a bit.

2751139
Trixie is superior at everything, of course. :trixieshiftright:

2751153
Indeed, there you've spotted probably the most serious thread in the story. Poor Trixie does have some issues to address that can't be solved by magical nocturnal alicorns.

And of course Trixie's plan cannot fail. She thinks of everything. Obviously.

2751193
I demand art of scowling filly Trixie! Hehehe!

Not to make light of the subject or anything.

2751384

Obviously she is, that's why she's the Element of Magic and Twilight got ran out of town twice so far. :pinkiehappy:

I jest, I jest, I'm curious about how you intend to go with this. After all, some authors like to take Trixie and just throw her redemption story at us with such speed that... well, words cannot describe how fast it usually goes.

2751397

Obviously she is, that's why she's the Element of Magic and Twilight got ran out of town twice so far.

Well, over in the Lunaverse...

That aside, without giving too much away, suffice to say that this is definitely not a story about Trixie learning a lesson quickly. *Sinister grin*

2751436

That's good news.

I love a good story where Trixie shines in her normal fashion.

Also, never read Lunaverse

Welp! This has all the signs of a situation that is going to escalate quickly and end abruptly!

Lets just hope Trixie doesn't get too banged up in the process.

:twilightoops: Trixie?
:trixieshiftleft: Yes! Step aside Twilight Sporkle, There's a new master of friendship in town, and It is I! The great and powerful...
:trixieshiftright: Since when in Tartarus did you get wings?
:twilightblush:

Heee, I only just noticed the cover art for this. Oh man this is going to be so funny, just picturing all the scenarios.

2751384 If I could art I would, I really would. But It's probably going to be another year or so before I can even begin to apply myself to yet another artsy medium.

Learning how to make music could take the rest of my life:derpyderp1:

But you know I'm sure it's more suited to someone a bit less heavy handed than I.

2753358
Fair 'nuff. I'm actually an illustrator by occupation, so really I should do my own art (I did the cover pic for the story, but it's just a quickie 'shop job so it hardly counts). But I figured I'd see if I could prompt anyone else to draw Trixie for me.

2751465
It's cute, an AU where Celestia went bad instead of Luna. The relevance is that in the Lunaverse stories, Trixie is the Element of Magic, and Twilight has been run out of town at least twice... :twilightangry2:

2751712
Oh, she'll probably be all right... physically, that is... and given that this is still basically a cartoon universe... okay, she's probably going to get bopped around quite a bit. But only for the lulz. :trollestia:

2751871
Trixie found out about Twilight's new Princess status from the newspapers. Coffee was sprayed.

2751564
Thanks!

Princess Luna visiting dreams has got to be one of the biggest boons for fanfiction writers to come out of the third season. The juiciness of having the Princess of the Night come in and interpret dreams and all the psychoanalytical crap that comes with it is just gold.

Oh, and filly Trixie is too too cute!

I smirked when Trixie went over what she thinks are friends. In reality, they sound like nothing more than casual acquaintances. I'm wringing my hands in anticipation at how her worldview is going to clash with our main set of heroes.

On a more sour note, this chapter got kinda expository in the last half. Trixie's encounter with Luna was great but that lead to a lot of internal speculation and details about the magic of friendship. Nothing game-breaking, but noticeable.

Till next time!

Mah mahn trixie gonna bang dat princess and steal all the other princesses friends.

2753598

Princess Luna visiting dreams has got to be one of the biggest boons for fanfiction writers to come out of the third season.

I think I made an actual squee noise when that scene happened in Sleepless -- not just as a fic writer, but because I thought it was just so cool. :pinkiehappy: It does make for an almost too convenient plot device.

On a more sour note, this chapter got kinda expository in the last half.

Yeah, I'm afraid that's one of the big weaknesses I was worried about in this chapter -- there's a bunch of foundation being laid in that section, and even after trimming it down from a much longer draft, it's still not very elegant. Glad you pointed it out, though; now I realize there's another infodump at the beginning of the next chapter that I really mustn't let stand.

"But it is true also that none of it would have happened if Trixie had been a banana."

Yeah, I'm gonna steal that reasoning next time someone tries to argue for a "what could be".

Fic's good. Can't wait to read more.

2753914
I think far more important than psychoanalysis was that it really established Luna's dynamic as a true Guardian vs Celestia's role as a Guide.
Think back to all those times you hear creatures being taken down by BOTH sister's through history, then consider how many times you've seen Celestia take down ANYTHING by herself other than her own sister since then. (Hint: Total = 0)

2755131
That's... really quite an intriguing point. There's something that feels exactly right about 'Tia not having defeated any Big Bads by herself since she had to deal with her own sister. You've definitely given me a case of thoughtful there...

2754952
Hehehe, that line was inspired by Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, responding to a bunch of worried 'what if's by shouting "What if my beard were made of green spinach?"

2754343
Depends. When I can find work, it's great, being paid to do something that I really can't stop doing most of the time anyway. When there's no clients... well... it's like being unemployed, but without the prestige. :applejackunsure:

2757091 Well I suppose you can always Illustrate your own fics and ideas if there's no one hiring ya?

Ahh yes, Trixie's plan is genius! Genius I tell you! The only thing that can go wrong with a plan this amazing is..everything, actually.

2760609
Lies, nothing could possibly go wrong with this plan.

2760609>>2762264

Man, it's so hard to resist giving too much away in responses to comments of this sort!

I mean, obviously it's no spoiler to say that things probably aren't going to go 100% the way Trixie expects (since it is, y'know, a story, not a love letter to Trixie Sue) but I keep wanting to give 'hints' that would just be tipping my hand. Partly because just sitting here and explaining all my ever-so-clever ideas would be so much easier than actually writing...

Heck, technically the narrative hasn't even gotten to Trixie's plan yet, let alone what could go wrong with it! :trollestia:

2759841
Yeah, and I probably will toss in some pictures along the way, as and when the visual inspiration strikes. It's a little harder to get motivated to put in the work to develop past a rough sketch when the results won't buy dinner. :derpytongue2:

2751871

Ummm, a few months ago. There was a whole shitstorm about it. Should have been there. It was crazy. :twilightblush:

2762370 Maybe, but they'll last longer than dinner, and certainly look better after 24 hours of first consuming it.
