This story is a sequel to The Legend Of Nicholas

Nicholas is the resident human of Ponyville, accepted and loved by all the ponies, especially the foals. Every year on hearth's warming eve, Nicholas makes toys for every foal in town.

However lately, Nicholas has had strange dreams about himself, about a crystal star, and about an Alicorn. Every night he feel more and more restless, and somehow he feels he must go. Nicholas has always had questions about who he is, and why he is in Equestria.

Without knowing why, he has a feeling that this year he might find answers. Of course, that feeling is only made stronger when eight reindeer come for him during the night, asking him to travel with them to the far North.

It is time for Nicholas to face his destiny, and be who he was always meant to be.

Klugetown. The city is far from Equestria, it is surrounded by a harsh desert to the north and a sea of endless clouds to the south. No one would stay here voluntarily. This is always a necessary measure. After all, the rule of criminal authorities does not benefit ordinary residents.

One day, a creature insanely similar to a monkey arrived here. It doesn't say which species it belongs to, and it's not like anyone was interested enough to ask. Despite its weak and very primitive appearance, it immediately began to make a mess of the city.

Who would have thought that very soon this creature would become the new mayor of the city?

Time has passed since the deer of Thicket successfully reclaimed their lands from Well-to-Do's encroaching 'progress'. Prince Bramble no longer calls his father 'papa', but he remains small in stature, both physically and —according to him— in regards to his royal standing.

Soon, the longest day of the year will dawn and with it, the deer will celebrate another Ambershine Festival. The prince was given charge of the event's preparations, but fears it to be a meager test apt for a buck weak of spirit. Little does he know that the coming disaster will test not only his resolve and that of his friends, but their ability to learn and to forgive.

"The trees bear witness to all that transpires, and their roots grow from all that we leave behind. Their memories, and ours, are petrified in amber. Let the morning cast a new light upon the past, and let us find in its glow the path to the future."

This story takes place an indeterminate amount of time after IDW's comic issues #27 and #28 (The Root of the Problem) and, though centered on Bramble, makes extensive use of original characters as well as some of my personal headcanon. I've never written fanfiction before (or really anything involving characters that didn't belong to me, hence the overreliance in original ones) and it's an entirely new genre for me. I hope that you enjoy it.

''In those days, nodeer really knew what to expect. Most suspected something was coming of course, but no one was quite sure what that something was, or how it would manifest itself. But the Hjortland meeting of 1008 was the first time plans were made, and it was those plans that ended up saving the Deer of Olenia from humiliation and destruction.'' ~ Lord Rushuo, The Last Lord, 1027

The year is 1008. Following a coup to remove the weak pretender king Johan Djavulen, the Goðar are in control of the Deer nation of Olenia. But simply exiling Johan is not enough to save Olenia, especially not with the looming threat to the north. Following visions by Seers across the country, Allsherjargoði Jurva, head of the Goðar, calls for a meeting of industrialists, Seers and generals, to assess the present and plan for the future.

Deer are terrible. They aren't strong, they don't have magic, they can't fly, they can't even manipulate things with hands!

So what happens when some guy named Johan gets displaced into Equestria as a Deer while his best friend, Derek, gets displaced as a Half Alicorn, Half Gryphon, Half Shadow Pony, (Yes the math doesn't make sense, Johan has told him that several times,) he gets stuck as Derek's involuntary side kick, forced to sit there and watch as Derek saves the day again, and again, and again.

What happens when you are the only person in the world who hates someone, when you are supposed to be their best friend? What happens, when you are the side character in your own story?

Theodore Goobins was, by all accounts, a loser. Stayed cooped up in his house 24/7, rarely showered, had no social life, and was a total hermit. Terrified of social interaction, and the blood on his hands.

Though, he had one escape from his life of loathing and melancholic solitude. League of Legends. A game that he thoroughly enjoyed playing, but was only somewhat good at. But that didn't bother him much. He still had fun.

This was pretty much his life, until one fateful day he wins a special giveaway he didn't remember entering, earning him a flight out to an upcoming gaming convention!

It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and he had to take it. Social anxiety be damned. When he arrived, he soon found himself face to face with a rather eccentric cosplayer who donned the visage of the Merchant from resident evil 4, and knew more about Theodore than he liked.

Little did Theodore know, that this meeting would change the course of his life forever.

The war that engulfed the whole world had an incredible impact on the minds of all beings. However, it is difficult to argue with the fact that the war had the greatest impact on ordinary soldiers. Everyone has experienced a wide range of emotions. The euphoria of victory over an ancient enemy, fear for the future, blind confidence in the correctness of ideals and much more.

All these feelings require someone to come out. And what could be better than a song?

Five humans fell through the barrier between two worlds, straight into the clutches of King Sombra. Forced to drink from a mystical teapot, their bodies transformed into beasts he could use. With his helmets in place he now commands them:

The Yak with brutish strength, the Unicorn and his piercing spells, the Thestral who stalks the night battlefields, and the Dragon that rains down fire on those who oppose their Great King. All four now loyal soldiers.

But what of the fifth? What happened to the last human in the group and why does he not fight alongside the others?

Warnings:
- The death and gore tags relate to particular moments that are more implied than seen and described.
- Darker themes are usually in, but not exclusive to, the main story arcs.
- There is also minor talk of suicide in a very short part, so I have added the tag just to be safe.
- Contains themes regarding gender identity and dysphoria which play out over the course of the entire story.

As before, this may need to change rating from Teen to Mature.
