It’s 2024, according to the calendar. Some other folks will have a much better opener to the year in their first blogs, something I typically struggle with, but given today is New Year’s Day, I suppose I should say something too, no?

A (relatively) long time ago, in the exact same house I'm in right now, I wrote the start of a really crappy MLP fanfic. It has gone unpublished for good reason, but I do remember one section that I was actually legitimately proud of; two paragraphs or so of description as the Mane Six walk back to Ponyville from Canterlot. (because this was before Season 2; and the train hadn't yet become a common thing.)
Alternative title: I'm Super Jealous of Everyone Who got to Meet up with Each Other at Bronycon but You Guys Probably Don't Want to Hear Me Bellyaching a Bunch.
Anyway, no I'm not dead, and things have actually been quite productive, all things considered. I've written about 10,000 words...they just...err...happen to be for multiple stories, so the work really isn't too visible unless you chat with me via Skype, Steam, Facebook, etc and/or have access to the Google docs.
Happy Hearts and Hooves Day, everypony! As I write this exactly thirty minutes from the witching hour, I figured I'd give some insight on what's been going on behind the scenes (considering I haven't posted one of these for an exact month; a lot of strange timing going on right now).
I did something weird last year -- I wrote more stories than I published.
The extra three just kind of sat in my Google Drive. Good stories, all of them. Written as part of the Writeoff competition, and taking two gold medals and a bronze between them. But then the contests ended and instead of doing the usual with them – publishing them on FimFiction – they just went back in my files.
I can't believe I completely forgot about this. Anyway, here goes. 4 days ago marks 10 years old of the most emotional and heart-wrenching sequel Pixar has ever made.
Released on June 18, 2010, Toy Story 3 is where Andy prepares to go to college as he's outgrown from playing with his old toys. They were supposed to be kept in the attic, but they were sent to daycare thanks to his mom who thought they were trash.
“‘Tuney, stop it, that isn’t going to work.”
“Oh, it’s not, is it? Then I guess I’ll have to teach you another lesson.”
“What?”
“Always enter a fight with a plan B!” Fortuna then tackled him, causing him to fall over with a shriek.
Hello everyone.
"Though I agree with your point, you are no older than 14, therefore I must call you a little bitch."
^^^^Flawless.
So I am still not doing so hot in terms of actual storywriting, but I'm not totally dead. My collaborator thewondersomethingorother and I have started a "historical archive" blog for all the worldbuilding that's going into our works. Anyone interested in stuff that likely won't be showing up in the fic itself is welcome to come watch us stumble through setting up Equestrian History.
An unexpected birthday discovery! This is done on an early '90s cam corder but still. Guards is just reliably solid, which is why I think it's one of the most constant Disc adaptions next to Wyrd Sisters. It's also just neat to see hangdog burnout Vimes before he became street hardened noirish bastard with a heart of goldish Commander Vimes.
Hey friends. Not much to report. Just wanted to note that with the addition of new genre tags, some of the genres on my stories have changed. From the top:
Death is Optional has gone from:
Comedy/Dark/Human/Random
to
Comedy/Dark/EquestriaGirls/Random
The Life and Times of Loud Mouth has gone from:
Odd blog post, but thought it deserved one.
Earlier today, someone sent me a link to a reading of my story "This Old House". A dark horror story about a ghost that controls an old house. During my time on this site, I've been very fortunate with people reading my work for others to enjoy. Although never before have I had one done with atmosphere, sound effects, and even voice actors brought in to assist. Needless to say, it's all very, very cool. So check it out!
Egyptian Mythology: The Creation Story and the Story of Re
From the beginning of time, before there was any land of Egypt, all was darkness and there was only the watery chaos, called Nun. The world was originally a dark, endless chaos of primitive waters. Nun was the primordial chaos and the void. Within the cosmic ocean was a swirling mass of energy which all of the primordial Gods came from.
Today’s addition to my not-a-contest is by none other than ROBCakeran53!
He wrote Delivery, don’t you know.
Speaking conventions in the show are always a bit strange but its the inconsistencies in 'Old Ponish' that really bring out issues, especially for writers like me who are trying to rewrite a great deal of canon.
