    Episode Analysis - Season 4, Episode 4 - Daring Don't · 11:00pm Dec 7th, 2013

WARNING: The following blog post contains spoilers. If you have not yet watched this episode, I would recommend watching it before you read this post. It spoils several plot elements, at least one of which is more effective if you aren't

Everyone gone who needs to be gone? Good.

Daring Don't centers around... well, honestly, absolutely nothing. The episode is a plain old adventure episode and, as is typical for such episodes, it was quite bad because in the end it didn't actually have anything that made it special or interesting.

    Headcanon Corner: The Questionnaire · 12:01am Apr 16th, 2014

Okay then. There seems to be a headcanon questionnaire going around created by the user bookplayer. So, yeah. That's a thing.

I, suppose I can throw in my own two cents, although be forewarned: I don't have a firm answer for every question on this list. That's because, well, I haven't actually given much of these questions much thought. But, I'll try my best. Here we go!

    The Princesses:

    1. How old are Celestia and Luna?

Considering that they were alicorns when they fought Discord, I'd say they are well over a thousand years old. If I were to ballpark it, I'd say they're around fifteen hundred years old or so, give or take a century.

    2. How old is Cadence?

If we're going by human years (which according to For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils is what the writers are going with), I'd say she's in her early to mid thirties.

Speculation and Apex Artillery: Chaos Magic · 10:48pm Oct 31st, 2014

I've had several tries writing something conclusive on Discord, trying to paint a complete picture of our favourite Lord of Chaos.
I couldn't make it work. For one thing, Discord is somewhat self-contradictionary, and, secondly, the topic is just. Too. Freaking. Big. For one post.
So, here we are, on the first part of what hopefully will be a series on Discord.
We'll start with something easy: His magic, herefrom for this purpose be called Chaos Magic.
And when I say 'Chaos Magic', I mean 'the apparently magical alterations imposed on reality by Discord'.

I reject your headcanon and substitute my own. · 3:27am Nov 2nd, 2014

Why does everyone assume doughnut Joe's place is in Canterlot? I mean, sure, the mane six eat there with Celestia after the Worst Night Ever (trademark pending), but what's to say Celestia didn't just follow them home? I'm sure she makes occasional visits there anyway, seeing as her Most Faithful Student (trademark pending) lives there. And besides, we see him on the Friendship Express heading towards Canterlot with his creation, Doughnutopia.
In other news, I've decided to try and make blog posts occasionally. I will probably at least do so when something significant happens that relates to ponies and horse words. Now I just need to start writing actual stories and I'll be a full-fledged user :twilightsheepish:.
Edit: in hindsight, I realize that I was just getting myself confused about Pony Joe. Oh well, it's not like it makes that much of a difference...

Why the unicorn who befriended Scorpan was not Star Swirl the Bearded: An Argument · 1:13pm Aug 6th, 2014

According to the Tale of Hearth's Warming Eve, Star Swirl the Bearded was the mentor of Clover the Clever, who helped found Equestria. This means that Star Swirl was already a renowned conjurer before Equestria was founded, which happened "long before the peaceful rule of Celestia". (see S02E11)

Of course one might argue that the "rule of Celestia" might refer to the time after Nightmare Moon's banishment, so I'll strengthen my point by specifying where in time Tirek's and Scorpan coup for Equestrian magic is located.

When Tirek and Discord meet in S04E25, Discord begins conversation by saying "Tirek, I presume?" This tells us they never met before. However, Tirek immediately recognises Discord and even calls him "legend". We can thus deduce that Tirek is younger than Discord and that his first attempt at stealing Equestrian magic necessarily took place after Discord was imprisoned in stone, as Tirek seems to recall Discord as an important historical figure.

    Headcanon Corner: Musical Canon · 3:11pm Apr 8th, 2015

I'm sure most of you have seen the new Rainbow Rocks music videos making their rounds lately. If you haven't, well, here they are.

Why Hasbro is putting these out months after Rainbow Rocks made it to DVD, I have no idea. What I do know is that these music videos (with the exception of My Past is Not Today) aren't exactly canon insofar as they don't tie into anything that happens in the Rainbow Rocks movie (the same can be said for the music videos put out for Shake Your Tail and Perfect Day for Fun). However, while the scenarios aren't canon, I think the songs themselves can be.

Consider this: After the Battle of the Bands, Rainbow Dash probably lifted her embargo on songwriting and gave the other Rainbooms a chance to write their own material. Can't you just imagine Sunset Shimmer writing My Past is Not Today, or Rarity writing Life is a Runway? I know I can.

Speculation and Apex Artillery: Mirror, Magic and Mankind · 1:11am Apr 12th, 2015

In the hiatuses (Some part of me insists the plural should be hiati. It is not.) between seasons three and four as well as four and five, two movies featuring an alternate, parallel reality to Equestria inhabited by humanoid creatures were released under the name of Equestria Girls.
The parallel world featured in the movies is accessed from Equestria via a magical mirror dating back up to Star Swirl the Bearded.

This post is me overviewing the apparent relations between the verse inhabited by ponies, which I will call Equestria and the verse inhabited by oddly coloured humanoids which I will call Canterlot High.

[Superlong] Headcanon Blasts! -or- How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the God of Chaos · 4:25pm March 3rd

This blog was meant to collect and show off some new art cuts I've been making. You know, the ones where I take a jpg or a screenshot and cut out the background in order to capture an epic face moment. I've made videos on this process. Anyway, while I do have a few of those that are ready to be shared, the computer on which those art cuts are stored is about one day left from retirement. (Short story on that is: yesterday it had a bunch of audio problems that led to crashes, today it had a bunch of connection problems that stopped me from doing taxes, and I shudder to think what tomorrow will bring.)

So that idea is shelved for now. I'll share those art pieces when I stop being so mad. In the meantime, I'll fall back on an older idea I've wanted to rant about for some time: sharing a few of my headcanons!

    Dragon questions · 8:07pm Dec 17th, 2016

What do the dragons do with their hoards when they migrate? They're not shown carrying it, so do they leave it behind? Do the ones with hoards not migrate?

Why do they migrate? To see friends they're isolated from? to trade for their hoards? To socialize the kids?

What do dragons hoard? Gems are clearly valuable as food, but when Spike when through his greed growth he collected everything. does this mean dragons hoard things other than gems?

Do dragons keep their hoards? Or does the hoard stay with the cave and if they move (Like in Dragonshy) they lose their hoard and start over in a new cave?

I've got a few theories but I'd love to hear what you guys think too.

My thoughts are under the cut.

So... Chrysalis has legged it, Thorax is the new changeling king, and the changelings are good now.

On the one hand, it was a great finale in its own right.

On the other hand, the changeling-focused fic I JUST wrote has been rendered null and void by canon.

    Speculations on Pony Magic · 4:57am Nov 29th, 2016

Many words have already been written about this: doorknobs, quills, and whatever things that are problematic to use if you have to operate them with hooves. Some say those are remnants of a human civilization, and that definitely could make Lyra happy. But how do ponies manage to deal with all that stuff?

    Magic!

Okay, ponies have magic, but not every pony, isn't it so?

Well, it's a magical world. Imagine that every pony has magic. The heart of the pony's magic circulatory system should be located in their hindquarters, between the cutie marks, while the backbone conducts magic to the limbs. So let's make a supposition that all ponies can channel magic to their hooves, that produces a surface force strong enough to attract and hold small things.

This kind of magic is universal for ponies, but what makes each pony species special?

    Karamverse Civilizations: Bat Ponies · 12:18am Oct 19th, 2016

Note: All of the Karamverse Civilizations posts are headcanons by me and Imperator Aetheris for our Alternate MLP Universe, Karamverse.

Although the three main tribes of ponies are the Unicorns, Earth and Pegasi, there is
another tribe, a more mysterious tribe which arguably lives in its own world: the Bat
Pony, which is also known as the Nocturnus, plural of which is Nocturnii.

    History

The History of the Batponies or Nocturnii begins, according to their own folklore in the great
plains, where it is said that the Earth Ponies, Pegasi, Unicorns, and according to the legends, the
    Nocturnii and Alicorns, lived together.
According to Legend, their numbers became too great, and the five tribes parted ways. While
Unicorns, Earth Ponies and Pegasi remained in the ancient plains, the Nocturnii and the Alicorns
headed west. For many years they traveled, until they reached a great mountain range, and then,

    Celestia and Luna versus a cloud: Post-match analysis · 4:33pm Apr 11th, 2016

On the one hoof, Celestia and Luna are the closest thing Equestria has to gods. They control the sun, the moon, and the stars; they're thousands of years old and still in their prime; they're capable of magical feats beyond any unicorn. The only beings who've ever fought either of them to a standstill are each other, Discord, Chrysalis (beefed up on more love than she'd ever known before), and the Smooze (who, under the circumstances, we can file under Discord). What they fought couldn't have been a mere storm; rather, it was the land itself trying to destroy the Crystal Empire. For all that they help the natural cycles along - managing the weather, keeping the seasons in the right order, helping birds and breezies to migrate - Equestria hates pony civilisation. As long as they stay in their own environment, ponies are tolerated - but a city in the Frozen North will have Nature constantly poking at its borders looking for weaknesses.

What kind of roles you see or include certain characters in (writing or concept-wise?) · 7:03pm Jul 3rd, 2016

I'm starting to notice I tend to put the mane six into certain roles whenever I write them into my stories or imagine new concepts. Here are some examples:

    Applejack

Roles I tend to imagine her in: Isolation, Mare of Action, Combat

I seem to prefer to put Applejack into roles which make her the center of action or allow her to think herself out of a jam on her own. She's very independent in my mind (as in the show) but uses that independence in extreme ways, like fighting off monsters or solving problems with her strength.

    Pegasi according to HapHazred · 9:11pm Aug 29th, 2015

Well, I've just published the first half of my latest story, which is predictably AppleDash. Given that nearly half of what I've written is AppleDash, this probably comes as a surprise to nobody. The story can be found here:

What might come as a surprise is some of the nonsense I put in there. In the story, we are given a more in-depth look at some of the stranger headcannons I developed over time about pegasi. So, to celebrate the new story, I've decided to put in a few of the other stranger aspects of pegasus life that, unfortunately, didn't make it into the story.

Bear in mind that most of the following was made up for fun. That said, wouldn't it be interesting if some of it was true?

    Pegasi and the water:

Pony nation, pony naming traditions and cutiemarks · 12:59pm Sep 22nd, 2015

Two years of observations taught me that pony names are almost always connected with their special talent and/or form of their cutiemark. Why? They have names from the beginning of their lives, and discover their special talents and gain cutiemarks later, how can their parents be so accurate with naming?

At first I thought that it's because name in Equestria have power to define destiny. And it's pretty depressing, because it means that ponies are denied of free will in some important aspects of their lives.

Seldom been so glad to see a fic Jossed! [Spoilers for Hearthbreakers under the page break] · 5:38pm Oct 24th, 2015

When you come up on an episode that will probably Joss your fic, I guess you can have two different attitudes: excitement or fear. My unfinished story, Command Performance, is all about different winter holiday traditions: how different families celebrate the same holiday, and how some don't celebrate the same holidays at all. But my Pinkie already had a solution, rooted in being a party pony:

“I just do what makes ponies happy," said Pinkie. "If it’s something everypony’s always done and it makes everypony happy, then I do that. If something new makes everypony happier, I do that. And besides, the new party ideas are going to be the old party ideas next year and the old party ideas we stopped doing are going to be brand new soon, and—”
“—when you do the new party ideas long enough, they become tradition!” finished Cheese. They blew their noisemakers.
