The carnival arrives without warning. No announcements precede it, it is simply there, arriving with the bombastic overture of spells, contraptions, and performances, as intricate as they are spectacular.

It isn't long before ponyville- and it's heroines- become involved... and all too soon, things seem to look strange. A great number of patrons, none of which seem familiar even in Equestria... A sudden upheaval that could threaten not just the carnival, but anything beyond... And a power, something great and arcane and incredibly ancient, that sits at the center of it all...

Following the Tirek incident, Equestria is once more at peace and festivities abound by ponies grateful for their freedom. Princess Twilight Sparkle and her friends have perhaps the greatest deal to celebrate, especially with the key-bearers who helped them to access Rainbow Power.

So Twilight decides to spend quality time with Discord—lord of chaos and final key-giver—investigating the Tree of Harmony, and the two friends must learn to work together towards a common goal while coming to trust each other. But friendship is not always easy, and when a struggling Discord receives a visit from a shadow that claims to be Tirek and threatens to destroy the mane six out of revenge, it tests their newly forged bonds and reveals many ancient secrets along the way.

Button Mash had been planning this out for years, ever since that one Heaths Warming Eve where Sweetie Belle kissed him. He was going to ask her out on a date. He's got the perfect idea, taking her out to the Canterlot Winter Ball after Hearths Warming Eve. Only problem is that he doesn't have tickets, but he knows somepony who does. Somepony he's going to regret working for.

Meanwhile, Sweetie Belle is getting prepared for her date with the one boy she's had a crush on for a long time. However, her entire world is rocked when she learns of a secret she was never meant to learn and questions everything in life.

Will this Hearths Warming Eve end up being a season of memories or a season of sorrows?
