Pinkie Pie, Applejack, and Big Macintosh meet in the kitchen one early morning to discuss something. Applejack, however, finds that this news is a little unsettling, despite Pinkie's attempt to be rational about things. Then again, we are talking about Pinkie's idea of rationality...

It's Twilight Sparkle's birthday and even though she thinks her friends are throwing her a surprise party, they don't seem to be very busy. Not with preparing a party at least. It's almost as if they've forgotten and that to them, today is any other day.

This is something I wrote for my friend Twilightsparkle13 as today (assuming it doesn't take forever to be approved) is her birthday and I wanted to do something nice. So as long as she's happy with it I'm happy with it. Comedy tag thrown on for inanity, no actual laughs guaranteed, as per usual with my comedy fics. I'm British, we have a different sense of humour.

Ponyville's new 'code enforcement professional' has got it into her thick, monotonous head that Fluttershy has too great a density of pet animals, and she's set out to rectify that situation.

Twilight, though, has a problem with this, and she'll have to use her full authority as an alicorn princess to put a stop to it.

It may sound like fun and games, but properly ensuring the nighttime staff of Canterlot Castle receives their appropriate caffeinated beverages is serious business. A business Daybreak takes to heart.

Not only is she personally responsible for ensuring Princess Luna is ready and fully awakened for the raising of the moon, she also must maintain the baseline alertness of the Lunar Guards, the legion of batponies who accompany the Princess on her rounds about the castle and protect the lives of the Canterlot staff during the night... including Celestia herself.

So, yeah. Serious business.

Daybreak wouldn't change a thing about her life, though, and rises an hour before sunset each day with a smile on her face and a song in her heart, working until sunrise for the ponies that truly appreciate her unique talent.

Until the Princess of Friendship visits for a day of royal reporting that goes longer than expected, and is forced to stay the night...

No one warned Daybreak she was bringing the Element of Laughter with her.

Princess Celestia, tired of the constant pressure that ruling a nation puts on her, decides to take a day off and let Luna take her responsibilities for a day, something the younger alicorn is more than happy to do. She disguises herself as a pink maned pegasus pony named Sunny Skies and decides to go walking around Canterlot without any supervision. Unfortunately for her, not all parts of Canterlot are as safe as the palace, and she finds herself at the wrong end of a gang of muggers, who decide to kidnap her for a ransom when they see how much money she has on her.

Luna freaks out.

Celestia thinks it's hilarious.

When Luna returned to Equestria and discovered the tradition of the Nightmare Night holiday, the moon pony took great delight in the concept of "trick or treat."

Delight that often... ok, always, came at Celestia's expense.

Tired of being the proverbial plot of the joke, Celestia decides to treat Luna to some tricks of her own.

To the winner, the title of Most Awesome Pony. To the loser, defeat, shame and ignominity. But when the dangers start getting a little too real, they have to decide what's more important. Victory, or friendship.

Twilight invites Ryan over to the Library for a standard 'read and chill' session that the two have with some regularity. This time, Twilight, has other plans; plans that she hopes will have a much more raunchy end to them.

It goes about as well as one would expect.
