Sometimes even Princess Luna feels out of her depth.

Entry into the eleventh Quills and Sofas Speedwriting Competition. Conceived and written in one hour; completely unedited. The prompt was "spurred to action".

While performing her duty of tending to ponies' nightmares, the newly returned Princess Luna comes across an acquaintance. A very old, very petrified acquaintance.

Celestia, though she has long sought an apprentice for herself, has never once found one she felt required her personal guidance. Disappointed, the Princess decides to go to the Canterlot Library to visit an old friend. And it is here that, for the first time, she comes upon a mare with a very noticeable love of magic.

The dark alicorn, Nightmare Moon, has been defeated. Banished to the moon, she will never again threaten the land of Equestria. But now, for Princess Celestia, the questions begin. Where did Nightmare Moon come from? How was she beaten? And more importantly, where is Princess Luna?

In the first year of a unified Equestria, Princess Platinum relishes her duty of raising the moon, but in all the centuries of her predecessors, none had ever reported the moon talking to them. What a wonderful, special gift, yet one given on the verge of Star Swirl’s student Luna taking over the responsibility. She won’t give it up easily.

She is the One who Mourns, She Who Raises the Sun and Moon, the Reclusive Princess.

Years have passed since the appearance of the Mare in the Moon, years during which Celestia has left the day-to-day running of the still-young kingdom of Equestria in the hooves of Platinum's grandson Prince Pyrite. Each day she raises and lowers the sun and moon, makes brief appearances at diplomatic meetings and special events, and then returns to her chambers, too lost in her melancholy to even count the years as they pass.

But what will she do when she discovers that her trusted prime minister has not been the faithful servant of the people she expected? Will she lose herself to her grief... or to the same madness that took her sister from her?

After Celestia banished Nightmare Moon to the moon, the Elements put her daughter into a coma. She wakes up centuries later with little recollection to what happened. Everything goes down in the Summer Sun Celebration but will she be able to stop her mother’s madness?

An era ends in the Crystal Empire, an era begins in the Crystal Empire.

For many years, Equestria has been locked in a deadly war with the Crystal Empire and its brutal overlord, King Sombra. But now, after so much fighting and hardship, the war is over. Equestria has won, and peace has been made. But to accomplish this, Equestria had to do something drastic to turn the tide. Something unprecedented. And as Celestia looks over the ruins of the once-beautiful Crystal Empire, she cannot help but ask herself some very important questions.
