Surrounded by the Everfree Forest, filled with delinquents, devoid of morals and any real sources of magic, Ponyville is the worst place to live in all of Equestria. But it also has the cheapest rent and Twilight's life just collapsed to the point where she can't afford to live anywhere else.

Perhaps the only thing Twilight has going for her now is that Rarity, the most powerful pony in town, has taken a liking to her. Rarity is eloquent, but the leader of a gang. She's beautiful and intriguing, but the most irreverent and delinquent pony Twilight has ever met. Rumors swirl around her. Some ponies even say she and her entire gang are all vampires.

But Twilight is smart enough to not give in to temptations. Or join a gang. Or become a vampire.

"Hey, Grogar sir, don't you think we should try to get everyone to work together? Perhaps by playing a game or something?"

"Like what?"

"Golly, there has to be something you like to do! You could try to introduce the rest of us to it!"

And then Grogar remembered a game he used to play in his youth...

Discovering she's not alone, Twilight realizes Equestria may be in great danger. She seeks counsel with Princess Luna to discover the truth about her nightmares. However, Luna warns Twilight the knowledge she seeks will come at great personal cost.

Twilight Sparkle would give up anything to save Equestria, but how much will she sacrifice just to learn the truth?

In an alternate, human Equestria, one's Clan determines everything. Until Princesses Celestia and Luna enact the Harmony Initiative, a law that establishes integration. The first experiment is Ponyville High School, where members of all Clans are selected to attend. But the Initiative is not exactly popular--for students, parents or the Clanleaders. As tensions rise, Ponyville's melting pot begins to boil over. Can a group of six high school students from radically different backgrounds keep civil war from breaking out?

In a world where unicorns frequently discriminate against non-unicorns, Twilight is sent to Ponyville for a break from the stress of city life. Having been raised in a progressive unicorn household, she now comes face to face with the ugly reality of racism. Twilight soon learns that friendship is not free; it must be fought for. So she fights: for her friends and for a wider friendship between the privileged and the oppressed.

Includes multiple romantic-comedy subplots that have nothing to do with racism, which is why the story is tagged both "dark" and "comedy".

Her goal is simple and wonderful: she wants all of Equestria to join her in barefooted bliss! Can Twilight and her friends stop her, or will she free the ponies from the tyranny of shoes?

What if the young Twilight Sparkle on the event of her entrance exam had not been rescued by Princess Celestia, but instead lost her mind among the power of her youthful surge and had to be sent away, far away before she could destroy all of Canterlot with her newfound power. Now the feral unicorn prowling the Everfree Forest only vaguely remembers her past, slipping away from constant terrifying attempts to capture her.

And she is beginning to remember what true power felt like.
