The Day of the Dead Anthology

The Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) is a now-famous tradition from ancient times that has been a huge part of Mexican Culture through the centuries. Like so many things in Mexico, it's influenced strongly by certain aspects of the Aztec people.

It has shaped the way those of us with that heritage look at life and death in many ways, and most importantly on the remembrance of, and honoring the deceased. We traditionally decorate little altars dedicated to the memories of those that passed away… but it's not a somber occasion.

PSA: Using AIs to Write and Publish Stories in Fimfiction

Hello everyone, this is a PSA (Public Service Announcement, for those of ESL) to put to rest consistent questions about using AI to 'write' stories and publish them here. This is not intended as a poll or a request for feedback. It is exclusively a clarification on an already-existing rule.

People ask: "Can I, oh great and powerful D, post a story or chapter that I got ChatGPT to write for me?!"

And the answer, my friend, is... No.

Absolutely not. Not in a thousand years!

    Because you didn't write it.

It is not your creation. You are NOT the author. In fact, you are the opposite.

There seems to be some confusion when interpreting the following rule:

    Don’t Post (Content)

    Phishing Awareness

Have you ever found yourself in a situation like this?

And then you magically find yourself in a suspiciously familiar site, except that you're not logged in, and it requires you to do so?

Well. Don't log in. This is a scam, and a cheap one at that.

There've been recent attempts to obtain Fimfiction users’ personal data, like passwords and/or emails through links like the one I'm making fun of above. And a distressing amount of people don't seem to know what phishing attempts are.

If you HAVE entered a site like this and put in your data, make sure to follow these basic steps at least.

All Our Best [Royal Canterlot Library]

As should be obvious from 15 months without a feature, life has taken the Royal Canterlot Library curators in different directions. While there’s still plenty of awesome stories being written in the My Little Pony fandom, we’re no longer actively working to spotlight them, and it’s time to officially draw the project to a close.

Thank you for all of your support, suggestions, and comments over the years. We’re grateful to have been able to share seven years of exemplary stories with you, and give more insight into the minds behind them. In the spirit of the project, please keep reading and recommending fantastic fics to friends—the community is enriched when we all share what we love.

    Reunions: A Swapped Roles Contest!

Okay guys here's something fun presented by Nitro Indigo.

Presented by me, I guess, but I digress.

Last year, I (Nitro Indigo) noticed that there was a surprising lack of roleswap fanfics on this site. To fix that, I decided to run a roleswap contest over the summer themed around secrets. While it didn’t get many entries, it nevertheless attracted the attention of some big authors and was the origin of two of my favourite fics. Overall, I think it was a success, so I’ve decided to run another one!

    Minor Rules and Reporting Update

Hope everyone is enjoying the new year.

Some small changes have been made to our rules as well as to the reporting process.

    Rules

"No attacks directed at individuals or groups due to race, gender, gender identity, religion or sexual identity."

This better clarifies our previously ill-defined hate speech rule and includes groups as well as individual attacks.

"No celebration, glorification or encouragement of real life criminal activity."

This includes past, present and potential future crimes.

    Jinglemas 2019

There's truly no time like the holidays. What's better than copious amounts of food, quality time with family and friends, hearing the sweet sound of Trans-Siberian Orchestra on repeat, and unmanagble financial stress from our capitalist overlords?

    Gift exchanges of course!

Site Post » Story Tagging and Sequels · 6:39pm Dec 2nd, 2013

Hey guys! Wait's finally over. Generous Santa-man knighty has brought us the magic gift of tagging stories in blog posts and marking stories as sequels!

Folks curious as to how the new tagged blogs will look can see here:

There will be a bit to indicate the tagged story, located by the report link. Off to the right it will display the tagged story in all its tagged glory. This not only looks neat as all get out, but also lets people know when a blog has been wrongly tagged -- folks who abuse the system by tagging irrelevant stories onto their blogs should be easy to spot.

The sequel-marking function isn't too hard to work with. Here's what it should look like when you go in to edit your page:

The trick here is that you mark your sequel with the ID number of the original. The original's ID number can be found in the URL of the story page, like so:

So just copy the number you see on the original and paste it into the box. This'll display a little heading in the description of the sequel telling folks that it's... y'know, a sequel. On the story you marked as a prequel, a box will appear on the right to show people the sequels to that story. While you can mark any story on the site as a prequel to one of your stories, that story will only show as a sequel on the original if it's by the same author (to prevent people abusing the system). You can see how all that looks here:

Merry Jinglemas, folks.

About damn time!

YAY KNIGHTY!

~Skeeter The Lurker

Too bad I already wrote a sequel.

Freaking Finally!

Nice! This will definitely come in handy in the future. Finally glad you got the system actually working.

You can mark sequels retroactively. Just go into editing and paste the original's ID in the "Prequel Story ID" box.

Sweet! :pinkiehappy:

Nice.

I'm excited for the sequel marking. That's gonna be REALLY helpful.

Excellent!

:rainbowkiss:This. Is. Awesome.! :rainbowwild:

Sweet! (now I just need to write a sequel)

Excellent Hanukkah present, thanks!

Yep, tried it out before this post even went up (because I'm a ninja) and it works perfectly. I am chuffed.

I think these first few comments (and presumably those to come) prove that we are like babies. Take something away from us, even for a logical and perfectly justifiable reason, and we'll go kicking and screaming. But give us something new and we'll fall in love all over again.

Love ya, Knighty. You too, Obs.

All praise this golden age of knighty.

Can I tag a story with 2 prequels? What if I later write an interquel and and want both the original and sequel to show up?

1565044
Presumably you would modify the two stories on either side to keep things linear.

"folks who abuse the system by tagging irrelevant stories onto their blogs should be easy to spot."
Thank you.

Sweet. Question? Can you put in multiple id numbers if it's related to multiple stories or something? Or is it only one story after another if it's a series?

Looking good! I already put up my sequel stuff. Now then, if I edit a blog post after it's already been posted, and tag a story or two... or four, will that show up in the feeds suddenly? (See my latest, currently untagged blog post which went up just before this feature was brought back.)

I tested this out when knighty posted on facebook about having added some new features. Immediately decided to see what they were, and I was really happy to see a sequel/prequel function! So of course, I applied it to my stories. You can probably imagine my confusion when I was scrolling down this news post to see my own story used as an example. "Wait, am I on my own page now... Oh no wait, that's an image!" No lie, I genuinely got confused for a second. And after that, I was pretty humbled you'd use one of my stories as an example.

I do have to alter the description a little bit to get rid of the redundancy, though.

Nice. All hail Knighty and his magical computer powers!

We get a sequel tag!?:pinkiegasp:
PRAISE THE MODS:yay:

Just out of curiosity, will people who faved the prequel be notified when the sequel is published, even if they aren't following you?

Should we mark spin-offs as well? :derpyderp1:

I hope the programmers here will appreciate my subtle attempt to teach singly linked list manipulation with the sequel system.

Question: what if instead of an id number I put in a crude ms paint drawing of my face?

How does it tag triquels????

Does this new feature AUTOMATICALLY write prequels/sequels to my stories??

1565058 you can only tag one story per blog post it seems :fluttershysad:

I love you guys, you're the best, this is the coolest thing ever...

Can you make it so the sequel bit appears at the bottom instead of the top of the description?

Nice! Great work, Knighty!

This. I like this.

Sweet! About time!

Thank you Knighty!

Changes on the site! Ooooh that explains my feed going crazy and showing a ton of blogposts of people I don't know, and that doesn't even have stories.

That said, I love this update, Thanks.

This is the hypest shit. Good job.

This would have been incredibly useful when I published my sequel, but se la vis.

Now I have to go back and mark all of my stories with this.:facehoof:

This looks as if it will truly be useful. This is a change I can be happy with.

On a side note, is there any changes to the NSFW rules coming that would interest us? Such as tagging mature fics and such. The way it works right now, we have to go through a PITA process just to let anyone know about any Mature fics that we write.

I ask this, because one of the fics I will need to blog about IS rated mature, and there is important info I wish to share with the readers about certain stories of mine.

Hey hey! It only took a year!

Thanks. :twilightsheepish:

Great update, thanks knighty.

Official sequel support.

This is pleasing beyond belief.

Very nice!

1565074 Always a worthy goal.

Perfect time for my OC stories!!

This is an outrage! I'm Jewish. What is all this "Christmas" and "Santa-Knighty" non-sense!? It should be "Non-denominational-holiday-gift-giving Knighty"!! I shall post angry blogs about this at once!

:twilightoops:

I mean, it's actually pretty kick-ass... I was playing around with the blog tagging earlier to announce a sequel, and I feel like I should mail Knighty some cookies as thanks. Does he like chocolate chip or snicker-doodles?
:scootangel:

Or maybe he'd be less suspicious if I sent him a gift card. You can't poison a gift card. . . yet. :pinkiecrazy:
