    Phishing Awareness

Have you ever found yourself in a situation like this?

And then you magically find yourself in a suspiciously familiar site, except that you're not logged in, and it requires you to do so?

Well. Don't log in. This is a scam, and a cheap one at that.

There've been recent attempts to obtain Fimfiction users’ personal data, like passwords and/or emails through links like the one I'm making fun of above. And a distressing amount of people don't seem to know what phishing attempts are.

If you HAVE entered a site like this and put in your data, make sure to follow these basic steps at least.

All Our Best [Royal Canterlot Library]

As should be obvious from 15 months without a feature, life has taken the Royal Canterlot Library curators in different directions. While there’s still plenty of awesome stories being written in the My Little Pony fandom, we’re no longer actively working to spotlight them, and it’s time to officially draw the project to a close.

Thank you for all of your support, suggestions, and comments over the years. We’re grateful to have been able to share seven years of exemplary stories with you, and give more insight into the minds behind them. In the spirit of the project, please keep reading and recommending fantastic fics to friends—the community is enriched when we all share what we love.

    Reunions: A Swapped Roles Contest!

Okay guys here's something fun presented by Nitro Indigo.

Presented by me, I guess, but I digress.

Last year, I (Nitro Indigo) noticed that there was a surprising lack of roleswap fanfics on this site. To fix that, I decided to run a roleswap contest over the summer themed around secrets. While it didn’t get many entries, it nevertheless attracted the attention of some big authors and was the origin of two of my favourite fics. Overall, I think it was a success, so I’ve decided to run another one!

    Minor Rules and Reporting Update

Hope everyone is enjoying the new year.

Some small changes have been made to our rules as well as to the reporting process.

"No attacks directed at individuals or groups due to race, gender, gender identity, religion or sexual identity."

This better clarifies our previously ill-defined hate speech rule and includes groups as well as individual attacks.

"No celebration, glorification or encouragement of real life criminal activity."

This includes past, present and potential future crimes.

    Jinglemas 2019

There's truly no time like the holidays. What's better than copious amounts of food, quality time with family and friends, hearing the sweet sound of Trans-Siberian Orchestra on repeat, and unmanagble financial stress from our capitalist overlords?

    Gift exchanges of course!

"Ponyfic: There Can Be Only One" wrap-up [Royal Canterlot Library]

We're still recovering this week from the fandom's final Bronycon.  (In some cases literally — a con-crud-ridden Horizon is dragging himself out of bed to write this.)  So in lieu of a Bronycon-week feature, we'd like to talk a little bit about the panel we hosted to find THE FANDOM'S BEST FANFIC™.

We've got a full writeup on our royalcanterlotlibrary.net website — including the complete bracket of 16 fics in contention for the title; shout-outs to great fics which we couldn't fit on the shortlist; and the full results of audience and curator voting.

Our hearty congratulations to Monochromatic's "The Enchanted Library" for taking the BEST FANFIC title in an upset victory over our #1 seed!  We'll be running an interview with Monochromatic as soon as possible.

Come See Us at Bronycon! [Royal Canterlot Library]

The run-up to Bronycon has been a mad whirlwind of RCL activity!  Five curators are attending (two for the first time!), and one of us is an official community guest. Several of us are participating in the Golden Oaks Bookstore (as author, author and publisher).  And we're even running a panel!

Site Post » Jinglemas 2022! · 10:42pm November 1st

Jinglemas is the annual tradition on Fimfiction to exchange stories around the holidays with users on the site. This single event allows all Fimfiction users to come together and celebrate the reason for the season. Ponies!

Enroll in this Secret-Santa-style gift exchange to request a holiday themed story, to be written secretly by another participant during the month of December. And in turn, you will be tasked with writing someone else's request. Then all the stories will be exchanged at Christmas! Simplicity itself! Thanks to the hard work of the Breezies, everyone will be ensured to get their gift!

For more event details, or if you are interested in becoming a Breezie, see the Event Rules our FAQ or join our Discord!

Bro Halloween just ended

I will be sure to celebrate from the Donbas trenches with all the other mobniks.

Yes, that means it’s time for winter holidays.

The reason for it being announced so early is that this is an event about writing stories, and writing takes time.

How did I get this?

._. It's not even Thanksgiving yet lol

I agree with both of these statements.

Normies be like

Me, vibing to the corporate Christmas jingles that haven't changed in a decade for two months because I'm the one guy that never gets tired of it

Well even though I don't have a story I wish everyone a happy holiday no matter the holiday.

is cwimis.

Context: An inside joke with some of my Discord friends is to annoy the Americans (I'm American too, but I go along with them because I lost respect for Thanksgiving for a while now) in the crowd with Christmas in November. This is usually categorized by spamming the chat with something saying "cwimis".

Wouldn't Thanksgiving be more logical? Christmas isn't until December.:twistnerd:.

November Thanksgiving is an American-exclusive holiday, so for (most of?) the rest of the world it actually is more logical to start readying for cwimis the holidays.

Ok but what is Applejack staring at?

True, true. I see now. I feel sort of dumb now with my previous comment. :facehoof:

To the next person who wants to post a comment like "but it's not even December/Thanksgiving"; "Halloween's only just finished" etc.

I have a message for you.

Please, don't start Karen-ing about commercialisation; there is a reason why Jinglemas starts so early and that reason has nothing to do with scamming you all so that you're hopelessly broke by January.

Jinglemas is amazing. It's free. It's huge. It's an event that takes literally two whole months to organise. We know it's early, but the wonderful organisers of this event have so much work to do, so they have no choice BUT to start early. Writing those comments about it being too early is just plain rude.

Your comment is not the first of its kind, let me assure you. Most likely, it will not be the last. We know, it's early. It's hard to get in the festive spirit. But you don't need to be in the festive spirit to sign up for an event to write a wholesome little story as a gift for a stranger. You don't need to be in the festive spirit to allow others to sign up for it and to safely ignore this post instead of writing unhelpful comments that all of us have heard before. You don't have to be in the festive spirit or write a Jinglemas story until the 25th of November, when the prompts are all given out, and that's only a month away from Christmas Day! Relax, people. You don't have to worry about Christmas yet. That's for Shakespearicles and Co to sort out.

If you have read this to the end, thank you. I appreciate it. I apologise for ranting; I'm just so used to people writing those sorts of comments and not fully taking into account all of the hard work that goes into our little annual tradition. Please, enjoy your November however you wish to do so, as long as that isn't spamming hate comments in Fimfiction's news posts.

~ Angel

Finally! I can’t wait for this year’s

This sounds fun. How've I not heard about this yet?

I appreciate your passion, and I understand it. Honestly I have no problems with any holiday traditions as long as they don't become harmful. The usual statement given when people are accused of christmassing too early is, "let people enjoy what they enjoy", and there were features of it in your comment as well. Once again, I understand that. So I'm just sharing what I enjoy. I'm not done celebrating Halloween yet, so enjoy my Halloween tunes. You have a great November as well.

Oooh tempting. Last year's was really fun, just need to consider if I can do it again after a two month long drought.

Let the spooky atmosphere carry on for this November, and maybe December too. I'm not sure about other parts of the world, but in the UK where I live, dark academia seems to be in fashion for this Christmas, which is always a plus in my book.

:pinkiegasp: Woah. I was NOT expecting you to read that. Uhhhh... *quickly reminds brain how social interaction works* You're welcome. :twilightsheepish:

This corresponded with the first snow in my state, it's a sign

This corresponded with the first snow in my state, it's a sign.

Luckily I am excited for this. I'm an avid skier, and this year I think I'll have enough for the uber expensive ski everywhere pass

At this point, I remember nothing about that episode, except how horrible Rainbow's hair was.

Too soon, bub. That turkey's still a-gobblin'.

I’ve never participated in this event before, but am contemplating it now. But before I make any decision I need to ask something. My current job will certainly be requiring many extra hours to keep up with holiday shopping frenzies and leave me drained. Would Jinglemas be feasible?

You have a month to write between 1,000-8,500 words. So I'd say you're probably ok?

Probably so. Just gotta decide now cause I did think of a prompt.

With contests like these, I have to prepare myself to endure a LOT of reading :moustache:

Christmas is Finally here!!!! Excited to read some Christmas fictions in December!!!!

A Hearths Warming Classic

i have been revisiting the site and reading some fics! The quality is still up top!

Yeeeaaaaah boooiiiiiii! My body is ready!

Can't wait for this year! I haven't written MLP fics in a while, time to get back to it :D

edit: aw man, I'm a day late to sign up. Crap. ;-;

Listening to Sabaton Christmas truce

I still have the bug where FIMFiction says I have 1 notification that doesn't actually exist. When are you gay retard niggers going to fix it?

Why does AJ look like a ghost in the picture? Did the artist forget to color her in, or was it intentional or something? Honest curiosity, not nitpicking the artist or anything.

Dude, the hell? Why are you using language like that on a Christmas post? Either send a polite message to ask for some help, or just ignore it. Easy as that.

I will not engage you any further in this conversation, as that would add too much fuel to the fire, and I rather enjoy having an account here. Good day, Sir or Madam.

Fuck off, you insufferable fainting lily. Adults are using fun words.

She's the Spirit of Hearth's Warming Past from S06E08 A Hearth's Warming Tail. Notice also that Starlight Glimmer is dressed as Snowfall Frost. Watch the episode, then enjoy this rendition of one of its several songs:
