Good start to the story. I look forward to

The Derpy/TARDIS rivalry is hilarious, and you story is as brilliant as ever. I eagerly await more

Thanks! I just added the beginning today. A cold open in the classroom didn't do it for me, and having finished "Moving Pictures" yesterday and now finding myself halfway through "Reaper Man" I was in a Terry Pratchett mindset.
1929346
Heh. I remembered the whole sentience "Sexy" thing, and suddenly realized a married Doctor equals a jealous TARDIS.

Haha I like it. Cute and interesting :)

Well as the head of both Doctor Whooves adventures and Daring Do Adventures, there is no way in Tartarus I could NOT read this.

1929627
I am honored. Tell me how you like it! I hope to have chapter 2 out by next Saturday.

I could totally see this going in a Pyramids of Mars direction.

Well done :D

1929990
Indeed, that serial is my main inspiration for the setting and atmosphere!

Spellcheck time! //dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/Twilight_Sparkle_lolface.png

The strange wireless, battery-lacking thing always broke down when he had the largest loads of laundry.

What does laundry have to do with a record player?

The small widget hovered in mid-air as line of light emanated in dozens of directions

Not that we’re all here I think we need to…

Now

“My family changed their last name at Whoah Nelly’s Island when they came from Trottingham.

My family did that. We used to be named for a plot device. :pinkiehappy:

He knew what he would have to say at the bottom and very nearly started walked every third step backwards just to prolong it.

walking, though taking every third step would probably be a better word choice.

“And, if we’ve just lucky enough, he’ll let me live.”

Sounds odd. Change we've to we're, and drop lucky altogether.
I think that does it.

So, the sequel to one of my All Time Favorites! on FiMfiction has at last arrived!
Only one picture can convey my excitement!

...Wait. No, that's not right. Luna! Stop making that face at the author! You're gonna freak him out!

GAH! I'm sorry! Don't cry! Aaaaaah!

Ok.

Here we go.

I AM EXCITE

1929379
Reaper Man is amazing. One of my favorites. :pinkiehappy:

Now I need to go watch Pyramids of Mars. :unsuresweetie:

1930190
New sentence: "The strange wireless, battery-lacking thing always broke down when he had the largest loads of laundry, leaving him in bored silence. "

1930200
Pyramids of Mars was my first Doctor Who. I had seen some sea devils while flipping channel, but I really was introduced when my babysitter said "This is a cool tape. Watch this." I was in love.

1930200
Also, Pyramid of Mars has some awesome dvd extras... lol. :rainbowlaugh:
And I picked up on something no one else has mentioned yet! :pinkiehappy::heart:

Great to see this back around!

1930277
I started with Chris Eccleston. I was so depressed when his season ended it took me something like 6 years to start watching Doctor Who again. //dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/emoticons/shrug_Twilight_Sparkle.png
I have only seen a smattering of Old Who so far. I watched to First Doctor serial that introduced (and killed off lol) the Daleks, and I watched the 5 Doctors. Been wanting to sit down and watch some 4th Doctor serials, but between gaming, ponies, and work, I never seem to have the time. //dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/emoticons/misc_Vinyl_sad.png

Yay! My favorite series is back! :yay:

Love all the sweet references... "Smooze", "Uncle Placeholder", "gray and blue socks" and "volcanoes" were the obvious ones.

"I’m telling you Sparks, when I first met you at the Gala I would’ve never believe what an awesome friend you were.” She snickered. “Then again,” she said playfully nudging Sparkler with an elbow, “you did try to punch me within four point seven seconds of meeting me.”

"We have heard to the next Gala in a few minutes or we’ll miss Sparkler assaulting her future fiancée.”

This one - not so obvious.

An interesting start of a new story, cannot wait to see what is hidden in Daring's basement.

Also, like others said, rivalry between Ditzy and TARDIS was an awesome idea.

Heavy Sparkler is hilariously terrifying.

1929379

Ah part way through reading what I think is Pratchett's best (solo) work, lucky you.

1933166

Yes, now that I hacked my Nook Simpletouch to use other readers, I'm rereading Discworld in order, going through some of the books I haven't touched. My only complaint? No E-Reader captures the awesomenest of Azrael's dialogue. They don't even display it.

1930870

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

This is why I put in references. I assume somewhere, somehow, someone will get them.

1931528
Like I said.... :pinkiehappy:

Finally got around to reading this!

So glad I did. I've missed your prose, it's funny and describes things in a wonderfully off kilter fashion, you manage to capture emotion with it wonderfully and it keeps up that Doctor-y tone in spades. Love the family interaction as always, and I really can't wait to see what else you have in store for us

2009433
If you want family interaction, stay tuned. Next thrilling episode: The Doctor, Daring Do, and the In-Laws! :derpyderp1:

Oh, and there's a villain and some monsters, but I know what the fans are waiting for. :trollestia:

I'm working at it now. Chapter two is at 2,000 words and growing.

This is already really fun.

I still absolutely adore how you write our lovely wall-eyed mailmare, and the jealous TARDIS is just classic. Eager to see where this goes!

Whoah Nelly’s Island

You get a smack upside the head for that one though. :ajbemused:

Doo-Smith Repair Shop

Bloody Thursdays.
:rainbowlaugh:

Oh, this is brilliant, though you should do some proofreading. There are grammatical errors EVERYWHERE, and not just in Sparkler's speech.

Whooee. It's getting creepy in here. So, is Daring analogous to Sarah Jane?

2136110

Damn it! I went over it with a red pen, even!

2136289 I'd suggest finding a good editor. Personally, I have a great one. Would you like to see if she'd aid you?
If so, here's a link.

2136136
There actually WAS a companion named Dorothy, or "Dodo" as she was called. I named her that deliberately. There's definitely some Sarah Jane in there. I Figured that Daring Do made sense as what any of the young British adventurers the Doctor traveled with would grow up into. The next two chapters start with flashbacks, so you'll get two peeks at the Doctor and Daring's relationship.

2136311
I'll take a look. Man, Kamineigh always warns me not to upload just after finishing. I caught 20 errors after you spoke up. Well, they're gone now, and I'm glad you still liked it.

2136459 Actually, Dorothy was Ace. Dorothy Gale McShane. I don't recall the Doctor ever having traveled with a "Dodo."

“Yeah, and I’m really good at talking and running!”

She is so the Doctors Daughter.

Loved the talk between John and his father in law, you could just taste the love, it tastes like Brussel Sprouts.

Topsy nodded. “Taking advantage of a poor young widow with mental issues. Who does he think he is?

“I mean,” Topsy continued, headless of her audience’s wishes. “If he could just check your eyes, and your speech, and the thing with your brain.”

And now I remember why I hated her in School daze.

Daring had the best dagger collection in the world. She stared all of them at Topsy.

And that I love Daring

2136459

There were two, depending on what you considered Ace's 'real' name to be, although its farly obvious that to you Ace is Bomber Jacket.

John Doo-Smith spun on his hooves, staring into into his father-in-law’s shades with a look of triumph. “This is it, Smooth Storm! This is my occupation. Now, watch me at work!”

And much awsomeness is due to occur

2136813
Ace was Dorothy (originally supposed to be Dorothy Gale AND spirited away by a tornado), but the First Doctor also traveled with Dorothea "Dodo" Chaplet.

2136848 Oh, really? Well, that makes a wee bit more sense. Seven didn't look that much older than Ten.

2136915
I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by my choices of Doctors.

2136842
"Loved the talk between John and his father in law, you could just taste the love, it tastes like Brussel Sprouts."

I'm glad. It's hard to write two characters who I like and make them hate each other convincingly.

"And now I remember why I hated her in School daze."

Choices, right? Yeah, the scary thing is that when my mother read Choices she thought Topsy Turvy was supposed to be her.

2137727 I always am. By the by, you never know. people draw on personal experience to write characters, often without knowing that they are doing so, which means... well, I don't think it's my place to state it matter-of-factly.

“It’s not fair,” he continued as he scratched the back of his mane, “but it’s as much time as I can possibly spend with her. A mare like her doesn’t deserve to get her heart’s desire. She deserves to get it at least four times. Still, making her happy for the rest of her life is the best I can do to make the universe almost fair for a while.”

This is a perfect Doctor speech here. The kind of thing that makes me convinced you are secretly a writer for Doctor Who who writes ponyfics in his spare time. You just write him too well.
So Daring was his companion during his 6th incarnation huh? Me gusta.
EDIT: I wonder if she likes carrot juice?

Topsy, I love ya, and I know you mean well, but SHUT UP! :flutterrage:
Hope Daring has one more good run left in her. *gleam*
So, we get to see the the Could've Been King and his army of Meanwhiles and Neverweres? Because it certainly sounds like it. a.deviantart.net/avatars/t/w/twilight-rapefaceplz.gif?1

2136459
Wait, I thought you had people pre-reading your stories first? :rainbowhuh:

2139074

When I'm not too impatient to rush to the presses, yes. :twilightsheepish:

Luckily enough Sparkler had kept Dinky occupied in their room, otherwise Ditzy would have had to blushingly explain quite a few things about John’s somewhat questionable song about hedgehogs.

SH*T! Eldrich Abominations!

2137727

You it was Choices.

However, although I do feel Topsy is hateable I dont see her as evil, I can see why she acts how she acts, she does want the best for her daughter she just can't see how wonderful she actually is and her attempts to deal with Ditzy's problems just make me want to strangle her.

Also I consider Brussel Sprout look to be an actual sub set of familal love, its the love of family you don't actually like as you don't pick your family. Normally for family members you meet once or twice a year and grin and bear it while imagining other things you could be doing that would be better, such as gnawing your own arm off.

I think of it as Brussel Sprout love for two reason's: -
1) No one like Brussell Sprouts but you eat them at christmas becasue its tradition, dam it, so you love all you relatives because that's tradition too (and your gene's telling you to protect those related to you, or who's children would be)
2) Its the love you most commonly live through at christmas, when you eat Brussel Sprouts.

Now it might look like hate to people outside of your familty it is still a type of love and you might be suprised what you'll end up doing when acting on it.

2141765
"However, although I do feel Topsy is hateable I dont see her as evil, I can see why she acts how she acts, she does want the best for her daughter she just can't see how wonderful she actually is and her attempts to deal with Ditzy's problems just make me want to strangle her."
Oh boy. There's a line she drops next chapter that will drive you completely mad, then.

"Also I consider Brussel Sprout look to be an actual sub set of familal love, its the love of family you don't actually like as you don't pick your family. Normally for family members you meet once or twice a year and grin and bear it while imagining other things you could be doing that would be better, such as gnawing your own arm off."

That is a highly accurate metaphor.

"Now it might look like hate to people outside of your familty it is still a type of love and you might be suprised what you'll end up doing when acting on it."

I think this is very close to the theme of the story.

Another solid chapter. I really liked the scene between the Doctor and Daring, and the interactions with the parents was fun enough.

I have to wonder if any of your main characters don't have major parental issues?

Oh Sparkler honey, it is making me cry :fluttercry:

The sad better not be for the ending and unexpected things! :flutterrage:

2142565

I'm glad you liked the Daring/Doctor scene. I really agonized over getting that right.

As to the parent issues, I guess I write what I know. Although my family never really got to the level of Lyra's. My families have issues, but I still want to convey that they love each other. Mine's like that. After all, they're coming over for Risk :Legacy as I type this.

I was so happy to see this. It's a good thing it's on EQD otherwise I would have missed it. The doctor showing off to his in-laws is going to be awesome, Daring is fantastic already, and you write a perfect Yiddish mother. By the way, if they aren't, can the Doctor accidentally? The whole thing, of course.

Luckily enough Sparkler had kept Dinky occupied in their room, otherwise Ditzy would have had to blushingly explain quite a few things about John’s somewhat questionable song about hedgehogs.

Discworld detected! "Somewhat" questionable? I'm terrified to imagine what Ditzy considers raunchy.

Actually, this is a surprisingly deep statement of how much the Doctor's opened up since settling down with Ditzy. Tennant-Doc wasn't ever unusually prudish or shy, but he wasn't exactly the sort to tabledance, possibly sober, while singing about cornholing rodents. :twilightblush:

Nearby were a variety of griffon throwing weapons, including the severed arm of High Eyrie Countess Amalia.

I got the immediate image of war griffons chucking their dead comrades' severed limbs like javelins. It was gross but kinda metal. :rainbowkiss:

I think the most powerful scene here actually wasn't Daring/Doctor, but Sparkler asking about the Pombreyan rocks. Ouch.

Man, I've been way too late in picking this one up. Time to enjoy myself!

2143997
Thanks, I know New York Jewish Moms, and I'm channeling it all into Topsy. I almost wish she told the kids to eat more at the table.

2145246
Ditzy has been good for the Doctor. Griffin war arms are Hardcorel; they are wielded by the amputee in question! Notice Daring has a note of thanks from the Countess.

I was hoping the Sparkler scene wasn't overdone. It turned out to be much longer than I intended. Glad to hear it worked.

2147887
Welcome aboard! I have 3600 word done of chapters 3 & 4, so expect 3 within the month, baring work time on the two colloborations I'm doing.
