For years now a creature wanders the world of Albion, with questions in his head and sand in his boots. The questions are rather simple: Where do I come from and where will I go? But how do they say? Sometimes, the journey is the reward.

Little moments like these hit hard. I'm just going to sit here, contemplative and reflectively, staring vacantly into the distance...
5618483 You're drooling.
Pity Pinkie cant drop it off, cos it should be an invitation to a celebratory heard from the lost grandon party.
Isn't Albion the home of the Hero's Guild and that bi asshat Jack of Blades?
Eris's character is like some bored naughty kid with too much power to me...
Im wondering if Themio wins, that his wish would be to send the letter to his world intead of himself... Just a theory
I almost forgot that Themio's real name is spelt Temo
Big impact you say... It sounds like you might be hinting a contact with Earth. That... would be interesting indeed.
If that's the case I'd advise you not to try and delve into our government's strategic reactions too heavily unless you're familiar with the inner workings of politics and military. I've seen a number of stories on this site try to deal with alien contact topics and they rarely remain believable. I'd propose using an narrow perspective for something like that so we instead get the feeling that a lot is happening rather than trying to show it all. The last thing you want is to bite off too much.
Interested to see where it goes :)
5620494 something we never knew existed, has valuable resources out the wazoo, and an existing military? i think i know what the U.S. Military would do...

It's also dangerous as all hell. Our defence forces are not equipped to deal with the possible threats this new world and the features could pose. The first thing they would do would involve working their asses of to eliminate any chance of massive disaster or failure. People would want some assurance that a catastrophe couldn't happen or that any possible magical attack would be ineffectual. So probably anything involving Eris being anywhere, ever.
5620822 how do you destroy/stop discord? ive read a few stories in which he is defeated by unconventional means (elements=conventional) one of my favorite defeats of discord was when science and physics is involved. long story short, we are all hurtling along space at bajillions of mph, protagonist stops discord. literally, stops him, as in all his momentum. its a bit mind bending, but at the end of the story, discord is moving at 0 mph relative to the rest of reality moving at bajillions. another one involved removing discord from existence. kind of like the cracks in time from doctor who. but how do you remove discord from existence without destroying reality? discord isnt just a character, hes also the incarnation of chaos. hes chaos made real. hes discord the character, but hes also the abstract quality that means disharmony.
5620861 Well for this story all those answers depend on the limitations that the author chooses.
In this story Eris seems to have the characteristics of a normal person. She would merely have to be dissuaded from causing problems. She can't just screw with people forever 'cause teh lols' because they will fight back however they can, now or later.
If the entity is literally the manifestation of chaos and cannot by definition conform to our desires then people will still eventually try to kill it as they attempt to naturally progress. An absolute fundamental incapability of natural symbiosis will only result in an inevitable conflict. An entity defined by conceptually manifested discord/chaos versus carbon based life forms evolved for the purpose of self-survival/progression; one must cease to exist.
5620992 but without chaos, there cant be order.
5621171 Aye, and chaos isn't inherently evil. Though it doesn't need a singular entity that constantly enforces the 'right' amount of chaos... or acts like a bored child and toys with us.
We also view gravity as a consequence of this existence, but if the gravity spirit came along and demanded that we never leave the ground for all of eternity... well... it wouldn't go down so well.
5621277 ...actually, it would go down. gravity? get it? but yeah, even if you did destroy this incarnation, something else would assume the mantle. The Dresden Files explained this rather well. even if you kill an immortal being, something else would take its place and eventually become that which you destroyed.
5622784 I think some points are being missed here :(
None of that would stop us from doing what we do. We don't stop trying to solve problems because there will be more problems after that.
Just try and think about it. I can't keep arguing pseudo-science and what-ifs about immortals and spiritual manifestations because it's not something we have to deal with. We just don't have a definitive answer.

yeah, the human race is quite ingenious. if we cant go through, we go over. if we cant go over, we go under. if we cant go under we go around. and after all that trying, if the obstacle still stands, we build something that can do it for us. which brings us back around to my original point (yay circle arguments) which is, how do you kill a concept? if it gets its power in people believing that it has the power to do that, then we go that way. either we educate the people, or kill them off. which suddenly makes me realize, atheists are one day going to rule the world...
5623919 ...That's actually a really good question that I don't think anyone would be able to properly answer.
If a manifested entity of a concept had to constantly enforce a certain amount of something, and was entirely fundamentally unkillable and unchangeable, then we would be the paradox of our universe. Designed to always strive for more but never capable of any change; never truly making anything better or worse. We would be the Eldritch horrors whose very existence was insane and didn't conform to our natural universe.
Your question has weight that cannot easily be dismissed or answered, and I thank you for it :)
5624003 whos to say we arent the horrors of our world? considering all the weapons we have designed to inflict pain and agony, the forms of torture most inhumane, or the cruelest ways to execute a thinking, sapient being, who is to say that we arent the horrors inflicted upon the world. many genres of literature and film have shown us that Man's greatest enemy is not Nature, nor the Environment, but himself. a mans greatest enemy is the one he sees in his mirror.

Did anyone ever notice that this story can't be rule 69? If that was the case why is everyone else not the other gender? Who said that there isn't a Discord somewhere?
5648935
As I read through the story, I've never really considered Eris to be Discord. Aside from some confusion with Twilight being Celestia's daughter, before I realized this was an AU, that was pretty much the only confusion I had. I'm enjoying it so far.
I find it interesting how quickly Shining is to judge Theimo. If Shining were to spend a month in the body of a human in the same places as Theimo, then he would certainly get a reality check. How long would it take and how hungry would Shining get before he finally decided to steal something just so he can eat or have a warm place to sleep? Or to protect himself, given how humans are treated at this time. He might know what Theimo has gone through, but he cannot appreciate just how hard it is until he would be forced to live it.
Anyway, on to the next chapter I go~!
