oh, that last bit isn't foreboding at all.
Alright, now what is going on?? I thought that they had settled their differences and now this happens? Just what is going on? If I had to guess here than I would say that since Twilight is the (to the best of my knowledge) most powerful unicorn in Equestria, than that power would eventually ascend her or something, I also suspect that this has to do with that prophecy of hers. I enjoy this story a LOT but this just keeps bringing up more questions then are answered. ANYway, enough of my blathering, keep up the great work and I guess I will see you next time. I wonder what will happen next. Also, have a and a . Hats off to you.
I have my own premonitions of what might happen next in the story, but at the same time, I feel like there's something obvious I'm missing. The last line from Luna also forebodes a lot of things, but at the same time, that might just be you tricking us, we may never know until you actually get that far into the story itself.
And last, but not least: How long do you plan this story to be? Or do you want it to remain unknow because that would be spoilerish? I'm just really curious here.
You have easily made one of my favourites with this story, I was sceptical at the start, I didn't really expect much. And then i actually read it and I was blown away. I love this story, everything about it. I don't usually read clop for the sake of clop. This story is indirectly clop, so to speak. It's not the main focus and I really like that fact.
Keep up making an incredible story, I will eagerly be awaiting over here!
FORESHADOWING, HO!!!!!!!!
Yup, hints at some larger scheme in motion relating to the parts of the prophecy that Luna and [presumably] Celestia were able to recall once the spell was broken.
And in reference to your blog, names are indeed the 'bitch' when it comes to a whole slew of OCs. Hell, I have issues coming up with just one.

This. 'nuff said
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand I'm pretty sure I know where you are going with this.
Commence read.
That was a nicely done defense by Twilight. She hasn't been neglecting her duties but not knowing what they are.
1908850
Actually its not foreboding at all,it is missing cold winds, chills or a laugh in the night or distance to be that, Foreshadowing now that its 100%
Update so soon after the last one
And now that Twilight has given them fair warning if anyone of the remaining councilors do not do everything in their power to help her
she can legally punish them for impending the Archmage (we can only hope she has a bad day when that happens).
Whoops looks like we missed the stop in makeup sexville, but it looks like this train might be headed for either immortal twilight town or maybe even alicornville.
1909072 Where is he going with this? I don't see it? Is it gonna be Twilight turns Alicorn?
Great chapter as usual. Rollin' em out like there's no tomorrow! I'm surprised at how fast you keep writing and editing these.
1909355 I got that vibe as well, and with some other stories I've read i'm wondering if the author isn't slightly influenced in that regard. Alicorn Twilight would be a very interesting twist, seeing as a massive repertoire of magic and spell skills is required to become one. Doesn't that sound just like Twilight? But enough jibber jabber, three spike-staches for the court room arguing
I'm getting the distinct feel of alicorn!Twi coming, but i have a feeling there's a major twist to it.
i need another chapter stat! oh, and good place to end the chapter.
That ending... Loyal, you really shined with this chapter! Also, Twi's defense of herself before the council was MAGNIFICENT!
Well lets see Only one thing this chapter stood out as "off" and that was that Twilight was summoned to a legal proceeding without knowing EXACTLY why, I'm also sure its pretty illegal, at least in the U.S., still nice defense by Twilight. The summons is just another example of everyone not telling Twilight anything. Heck at this point, "Nobody tells me anything" could be her catchphrase/motto.
Also nice that the Twiluna train has pulled back around into the station and nice to see that one of the main problems with any alicorn romance is being brought up before this gets to far underway. Seeing as how Luna knows something Twilight doesn't regarding the matter, its probably a nonissue to Luna. Either Luna dies young or Twilight lives forever, however they happen. Still, keeping secrets hasn't really worked out well for you Luna!
Also, I read the blog for names before this chapter and got kinda worried that my comment had somehow provoked a reaction chapter fixing all the stuff I pointed out and was kinda expecting a long wooden "fix all those problems" conversation chapter to go down between Shining and Cadence. One sentence in and those fears were gone. So that was nice.
Looking forward to the next!
Alicorn Twilight right? It would be awesome! Its never gets old!
Not sure which one you meant to write there;
'We all make mistakes' or 'We've all made mistakes'
1909926 Ah, but if said secrets were read from the book of Prophecy, then Luna CAN'T tell her, as it would break said prophecy. Remember Twilight decided NOT to read her future, and the book had 2 possibilities for the future, one where she read it, and then was fated to repeat it, and the other where she did not, and so was fated to make choices and have nobody but herself to blame. Also remember that Celestia and Luna both read the now locked path of Twilight's future... But in so doing, they must keep silent on such things, or it could altar the future that has been written, thus breaking the prophecy.....and destroying Canterlot with the magical backlash...if not the planet due to how large and major a prophecy this is, compared to the one that destroyed half a town because a CLOUD got redirected.
Why do I get the feeling Twilight will be taking over her positions in extreme rapid fire very soon? Starting maybe in 2 chapters?
1910260
eh, i figured as much.
I kinda' guessed Twilight would be an Alicorn ever since I saw the prophecy book chapter. That last sentence confirmed my suspicions.
Once again, the Alicorn theorist within me is screaming...
Good chapter.
Dun.
DUN.
DUUUUUUUUN!
inb4 Twilight is destined to be immortal.
looks good mate, quite a lot of theories in my head at the moment, most important one being immortal or alicorn twi
Ok, why is everything so hard for Twilight, she do her best and this is all she gets:
1) Her parents die.
2) Princesses hide the true that Twilight parents are dying, not giving her chance to spend last moments with them, maybe even refuse to heal them with they powers.
3) Twilight is expected to do 20 jobs, come on, 20 Unicorns are doing duty what Twilight will need to do and they still complaining, come on, what would happen if it was Twilight who almost died from helping Luna and Celestia raise the sun, I mean, Twilight just started doing it for the first time and she somehow managed to do it, even with no sleep and her mind in terrible shape she still managed to do it, and her temporary replacement failed and blamed her for it, great way to go.
4) Now entire Council wanted to complain that Twilight is unable to perform her duty, so she wont be Archmage, great idea, lets see how those 20 Uniorns will do her duty to the rest of they lives, not to mention how many more Unicorns will burn helping Luna and Celestia if they will find anyone at all, how could they be so stupid, can not they see that going again Twilight, they practically hurt them-self, on the other side, fine, let them, Twilight will go on vacation and make her time until she is ready and well informed and let council do dirty work for her, there is no need to hurry, if she need to do job what 20 Unicorns can not do, she should at last be given time until she is ready.
5) What is with 3 days to learn shields, did not other Archmages spend 1 month or more learning shields, not to mention that Twilight did not even study under last Archmage and the one who can teach her about shields is totally busy, what is wrong with council ? I bet that others will convince Bastion to seek excuses that he is to busy to help Twilight so that council can get rid of Twilight, why they are making everything harder instead of helping her ?
6) Celestia " it is now your problem Twilight, not ours ", uhh, can Celestia be even less sensitive ? she was the one who hide important information from Twilight, she and Luna hide those informations, they hurt Twilight, did a lot mental damage to her, because of that Shinning decided to leave guards and because of that Twilight went to Crystal empire to learn about love magic and to have at last little break from all the lies, betrayals and pressure, and what he get, she get punished and is given impossible task.
7) Finally, no one informed her about anything, why everyone, especially Celestia and Luna hide informations from her, using her like pawn or making her do some tests.
So yea, come on, what is wrong with every pony, being more hostile then supportive ?
I think Twilight should say: " you all are like that ? fine, then I will just take vacation and then study all magic and gather all informations without hurry, and until then you can just do my job for me, and if you not want me as Archmage, fine, you ponies can do all my work for the rest of your live, it is not like you need me or anything ".
Anyway I hope that in next chapter this madness will end and every pony will stop being an ass, and alternative case scenario - Twilight fail to learn shields in time or find replacement, she is summoned by council again, and she tell them that they need her to be Archmage, not she need them to let her be Archmage, and unless they start to help and be supportive, she will stop rushing, and instead she will take one step at a time, and if Council want her to slow down, then why not, there is no rush, it is not like she need to safe Equestria again like she did in the past, it is not like being hero would make every pony grateful for saving they flanks and repay her.
I think that now it should not Twilight study to be Archmage, now Council should learn how to not be stupid, that is so much more important for Equestira safely and well being, time for some LECTURE.
1908095
Well yeah, being a pegasus and all Fluttershy might have a little difficulty with casting magic.
I'm not requesting it though—Celestia above that'd be awful. But there's nothing wrong with a little imagining.
1911574
Making the protagonist experience suffering is a general writing thing to make the reader feel/love the protagonist more—when done right (like this). It also makes the protagonist seem more 'human' to the reader because in real life, people experience tons of unfairness and bad situations that they themselves cannot control—like a parent's (or in this case two) death. Wanting to see the protagonist overcome through all of this [seemingly] meaningless suffering is what really keeps us glued to the story.
The author is doing this beautifully.
Yes! I knew there would be something much more than "just" Archmage.
1909926
> Either Luna dies young
I doubt it. Celestia wouldn't be so calm after reading the prophecy.
And this line...
I think, it means that already something is happening to Twilight (or very soon) and it isn't because of princesses.
1912371 Thanks.
1912548
yeah, I'm really betting on the other "Twilight lives forever" side
well i hate the common theory of alicorns living forever. this story has avoided shoving down that fact and has devolved quite a bit about celestia and luna's characters showing strengths weaknesses good judgement and mistakes and i hope it keeps with that.
Just now, I clicked on my Favorites page and noticed an unread chapter of Archmage. I was astonished, because I remembered getting the email, immediately clicking the link, and reading the chapter. That was not exactly "immediate", since I was at work, and people kept coming up and wanting to buy movie tickets. Why would they want to do that? (Random note, I loved Les Mis, and Anne Hathaway is absolutely AMAZING. So moving. I cried a lot.) I did eventually finish the chapter, and it was great. I love this story. (Even if I prefer Twilestia to Twiluna. But I'm ok with Twiluna, especially the way you write it. This story has become an addiction. Moar please ) After clicking on the chapter, I figured out that it was marked as unread because I had read it on my phone while not logged in. Oh well. More motivation to praise your work! It's really great.
Rawr! Go Twilight, give 'em what for! Started reading this the other day, just caught up. Nice fic!
Two things:
1. BUCK YEAH TWI! BEATING ASS (metaphorically) AND TAKING NAMES( literally)!
2. Loyal, you are a teasing whore.
So close to make-up sex.........
1912180
I know, but it also make everyone around protagonist acting stupid or unfair, it is hard enough that protagonist must go again super villains to save everyone, getting no support from those who are on your side or even having them going again you is just overdoing it.
I just like when background characters help heroes overcome villains and dangers, but when heroes need to do everything and no one help them, no one thank them and everyone even make it harder, I just fell that what is the point to fight for those who are so unfair and ungrateful.
As much as I like Twilight in this story, I am starting to not like everyone around her, Luna and Celestia hurt Twilight a lot, Luna almost killed her with her training of shadow magic ( first when she summoned to strong monster of the night to fast, and second time when because of her Twilight almost destroyed herself from shadow power ), everyone are acting less supportive and more hostile considering that they are on her side, and the fact that Twilight is giving more than 100% of herself, it is still not enough for everyone around her.
I know that what not kill you will make you stronger and that challenges make you prepared for what future holds, but there is limit in everyone mind, there is limit how much someone can do, how much pressure can hold, for example soldier who survived war, you can argue that fighting for his live, protecting his country and fighting alongside one another for years would make him very strong, but most of the case you get a mental wreck who can not find a job outside of military and hardly can have normal family.
All I hope is that in next chapter, those around Twilight will start to see they mistakes, because it is not believable to make protagonist pass endless challenges and live threatening situations without mental damage, even the strongest need a break, even the hardest workers can not work over they limits or they will just hurt them-self.
I really would like if author would put up an issue that after Twilight best efforts she put to fulfil every-pony expectation, she finally reach her limits and can not go any longer, some sort of break down where everyone will need to stop being ass and start to help her, and it can also be lesson that no matter how hard you work or how strong you are, you can not do everything, you need others to help you, Twilight friends can visit to support her, council can finally start to act wisely and princesses can finally pay up for all they mistakes they do, because honestly, Twilight did not do any mistakes, going to Crystal Empire to relax her mind was the most wise decision she made.

If I may: That was a beautifully written rebuttal. Much applause, and I would say that you bring up an excellent point.
1914786>>1914499
It was.
1914786 , 1915700
Thanks
Long-living Twilight?
Anyway, you suprised me on the courtroom scene. Honestly I thought there would be more shouting and emotionally charged speaches with fallacious arguments. But I was wrong, and I am glad that I was.
Excellent, keep it up!
It's that time of the week again, folks, when MrNumbers loves a story so unconditionally as this one that he bequeaths upon the chapter a song parody:
Risin' up, fightin' the courts
Did no crime, despite what Crest says
Went to Cadance now I'm back on my hooves
Just a mage and her will to proselytize.
Poor filly Twi, it happened too fast
You made your passion a prophecy
Don't lose your grip become a dream of the past
Luna's right, alicorns will stay alive
It's the rise of the Twilight, if the prophecie's right
Risin' up to the challenge of love mortal
Just ask Celestia as you help bring the night
Cause she's watchin' for signs of the rise of the Twilight.
Face to face, Court in defeat.
Hangin' tough, cool and angry
They side with gods, still she tears them to bits
Stayin' cool with her skill on her side.
It's the Rise of the Twilight, if the prophecies right
Risin' up to the love of an immortal
And though Crest may be broken he failed to raise the night
Though he tried hard he still can't stop the rise... Of the Twilight.
Standin' up, glare at the toffs
Had the guts, got the glory
Learnt from Cadance that she's not gonna stop
Lovin' Luna and this love will survive
It's the Rise of the Twilight, if the prophecies right
Risin' up to the love of an immortal
And though Crest may be broken he failed to raise the night
Though he tried hard he still can't stop the rise... Of the Twilight.
you know... I just realized that Twilight is probably gonna need a secretary or office for all the messages she's gonna get now.
And the council hasn't had to deal with the replacement of an Archmage either because Nocturnal Glow is like, super old. And if Nocturnal Glow had students, and Twilight knew about them, why didn't she contact them to ask about what he taught them about the Archmage duties.
After the court scene, I officially proclaim Twilight as 'Morpheus the Second', loaning his voice to her in key moments in a totally not creepy way.
"“If only you knew, Twilight… If only you knew.”"
Eh, that book is only so-so thick.
Forgive me: What I just read burned this thought in my head, and I could not get it out...

You forgot the burnmarks and bandages.
Well, I've had the nagging fear that Twilight would become an alicorn in this story, and it seems that it shall be true. This was a great chapter, and I loved the court scene. Oh well, I shall carry on!
~SolidFire
This chapter presents a very strange case that Twilight very rightly put into question: after two and a half months, not a single pony in the Council has bothered to even meet her or even exchange pleasantries with her. I personally find that positively bizarre, and I bet the Council is smacking it's figurative head against the wall for not doing so, because Twilight used it to completely dismantle their entire case. It is actually downright negligent on their part. If they're essentially placeholders, the least they should do is at least meet her, even if it was a casual affair, and inquire when she could take the burden off their hooves, even if they did so just to confirm how incompetent and unsuitable they might believe her to be. That out of twenty different ponies not a single one said even a simple hello in the hallways is beyond strange
Well, that ain't ominous at all. No siree, not one little bit
Can I please just state something extremely important.
THE SHEER AMOUNT OF SASS IS KILLING ME
thanks
4106000 Well, they're also all probably Canterlot nobles, and if you've seen the show, then you know how much they hate having to do anything for themselves.
lol
