Dr. Lemuel Gulliver's trip to the land of the Houyhnhms should have be his last voyage anywhere further than the nearest pub.
Fate had other plans, and now he is in a race against time to find a cure for the strange malady he picked up in his last voyage.

"...My family had insisted my first, and now it would seem only, visit to that land of fair and graceful people who lived in eternal harmony was to be my last trip ever away from home.

"So I had once sworn to my wife, Elanore, my son, Alexander, and my daughter, Elisabeth. Never more would I roam, nor seek out the perfect people, perfect despite the fact they walk on four hooves...
The land of the Houyhnhms."

"Fate had other plans for my vow, yet still held me to it in a strange way none could anticipate...."

Interesting, faved, he sounds British. Maybe catholic.

...erm.
Well, it's not written quite in the style of Gulliver's Travels, but I'm prepared to overlook that if you can pull this off. It'll be interesting to see a human in Equestria story starring someone who's actually used to this sort of thing.

Thanks! I'm at least trying to get this in the flavor of the original tale. I hate to think how long this would take to write if I tried to get an exact match, and I'm not sure I could get anyone to read it if I goofed it at that level... :twilightsheepish:

1580284
So far as I read, Dr. Gulliver is definitely English, although I could not pick up enough clues on his flavor of Christianity. My best guess is at the least Church of England, if not Catholic.

1581381
Afraid its 300 years before their time in my tale, but there will be ripples from this pebble... :raritywink:
If I have disappointed anypony with a lack of Mane 6, I at least hope to inspire somepony to write such a meeting. *bows* :coolphoto:

Well this is confusing but intriguing. Never read Travels, so not sure how much is original and how much is derived. Anyway, I'll keep an eye on this.

1586948
Thanks, I am working on chapter 2 right now.
The book is free on the Project Gutenburg site if you wish to read it. (I really, really miss my 1932 edition with lavish color lithographs. whoever stole it needs to be standing next to Discord as a fellow roost for pigeons...)

Fuck yes.

Wait a minute... Celestia meets two horses? :rainbowhuh:
Did you really just do what I think you did! :pinkiegasp:

1666795
Depends on what you think i just did. :raritywink:
But the fun is only just beginning. Gulliver brought his books too...

1666949
The commercial for the episode with Celestia standing next to two horses?

1666970
Hmm, no relation actually unless opportunity presents itself later.
The horses were present in Chapter 1 before the commercials aired. ^_^

1666985
Well, yeah. But you were presented with one hell of an opportunity with that commercial.

1666993
I'll have to freeze frame it and see. Could at least be descendants since I set this 300 years before FiM Episode 1

1667024
Oh... Er... Hmm... Ah...
...Let me stop there before I make other sounds.

Yay for people who read books ! :rainbowkiss:

This story is interesting. I'll have check out the books.

Gulliver's a bit off-target, though not so far off that he'll have to learn an entirely new equine language. It should be interesting to see how he reacts to a land that isn't an allegory for the failings of Western society. For once. :raritywink:

Of course, being from Gulliver's earth would definitely explain why delegates from Saddle Arabia would be impressed by flying animals.

Good grief! A pony Jack Sparrow?!?

1775830
Afraid so. :twilightblush: I had to think over what would be the worst possible First Contact archetype for someone who had come to the conclusion in his travels that "Humans Are Bastards" and "Horses are AWESOME". Capn' Jack Sparrow won hooves down... :trollestia:

Hah. That was unexpected. Loved it.

1775874 Seems logical. Nothing shakes your faith in a species quite like its iteration of Captain Jack Sparrow. I'm curious to see if you'll spring any other unexpected crossovers on us.

1782101
I have a clearly planned beginning and end, its the middle that sometimes springs wierd bursts of Xover inspiration as I make my way through it. :pinkiecrazy:
If anypony else seems oddly familiar, it will be a surprise to me too :pinkiesmile:

Not one for musical numbers in fics, myself. But the luau was pretty enjoyable. Seemed a bit rushed until the end there though.

1849204 Sounds like I have to work on my pacing with massive party chapters then. :twilightsheepish:
I tried to strike a good balance between detail and the fast pace of preps and party, and the plot elements happening during those.
Luaus seem to me as fast and energetic as a Pinkie Pie Party and that's the pace I was trying to capture. I at least hope I hit that. :pinkiehappy:

About the links... I am not sure what you meant. So...

Some music in background. But this is game...

Exact name should be, I think, with F. But first search with P gave me this.

Edit. Me stupid.

Thank you for posting these great tracks. What I was searching for was not among them unfortunately.
However I did find this trying to think outside the box and typing in "hawaiian 5th element"...
THIS i what the background tune of the Luau song sounded like (As sung by the Hippocampi). :pinkiehappy:

Intrguing. One note though, you might want to make sure that your spelling is consistent.

"Brobdingnag"
"Lilliput"
"Houyhnhnm"

Ah, thanks!

I was mainly paying attention to the spelling of Houyhnhnm since the other locations will barely be mentioned until the audience with Princess Celestia.

In fact, I copied "Houyhnhnm" once out of the Gutenberg Project edition I downloaded and copy/pasted each time the word was needed, making changes for plural on occasion. I'll go back through tonight and make changes on the first two, and doublecheck the spelling of the last.

Wow, great story you've got so far!

I hope you can find the time and/or inspiration to update this someday.

Thank you! I'm working at it when I can. I should have a new chapter soon, along with a cover image.

Thank you, it was quite a surprise to me.

What is this doing in "The Good Hie List"? The rules say each story has to has at least 100 upvotes to get into it

2647004
Not a clue. I didnt even know about that group untill Dark-Castle's comment and I found out my story was there.

Heh, and as usual, Gulliver finds his latest voyage the most perfect...

2780718
Each of his travels was more amazing than the one before it. I figured his last should be the one to start repairing the damage caused to him and his family by the ones before.

I am beginning to think that the Equestria Interdimensional Tourism Agency's slogan is:

"Welcome to Equestria. You won't leave. (That's not a threat.)"

Many is this not featured it's amazing the seamless blending of stories and usage of correct language

1581417 When Gulliver has an audience with the Giant people, the rulers of Brobdingnag (The Land of the Giants), they ask him questions of his government and country, as well as other things.

Johnathan Swift is the author of the Gulliver's Travels series. The encounter with the Lilliputians (who are very small compared to the Giant-sized human) and his adventures in the area (he puts out a fire in town and is hailed a hero).

I've had to read Gulliver's travels over my last brit lit class... I admit, this story is fascinating by that point of view. Instead of a political commentary, it's more a personal travelouge and exploration story, where Gulliver is examining his environs, as much as he examines himself. I hope the author picks this up again one day. the details and world-building so far have been top notch.

Thank you, I've been trying to get back to it since my depression has abated.. Watch for more soon.
