All I want is to be remembered. Not for what I've done, but because I tried to be better.

Trauma touches everyone differently. For some the scars run deeper than skin, and Rainbow Dash hasn't eaten in days.

Is there going to be more to this story?

Pretty good story, especially considering the time constraint it was written under. How people can manage to write such good fics in so little time is beyond me :pinkiegasp:.

I don't think so. This is essentially what I wrote for the competition (just slightly spruced up) and I don't think I'm interested in expanding it further. Besides, I kind of like leaving it open-ended, and up to the reader's imagination if this is something Rainbow can recover from emotionally or not.

Thank you! It was certainly a harrowing trial-by-fire for my first attempt at speedwriting, and I learned a lot.

Man. Not many could take something as childish as somepony not wanting to eat her veggies and twist it around into a tragedy.

:duck: At times like these we need to pull together after all I have a foal to take care of soon...
:pinkiegasp: Draconies?!
:rainbowhuh: I knew it!
:facehoof: It was only their 1st date...

:moustache: Why's Ponyville so empty?

:trollestia: Welcome every creature, We are here to....

I Brainstormed a continuation prompt i have no intension of actually writing, maybe. take it if you want.

Rainbow learning to cope with Spikes death, the loss of her wing, her future as a wonderbolt, her pride and sense of self completely destroyed (unable to reconized herself in the mirror, cracking melancholic jokes about how fluttershy is now the best flyer in their friendgroup, having her house moved down to groundlevel etc.)

Twilight talks about how they have to support rainbow dash now, and that there is likely no hope of healing her, in all the magic and books and secrets she knows, there is no fixing the damage does to rainbows body, (the wing isn't even the worse of the damage, she has third degree burns, broken limbs, nerve damage, asthma from breathing in the ash, etc).

Applejack refuses to accept this. she believes, she knows "there is no hope for rainbow dash" is false. applejack leaves to go on a quest for something that can heal her friend. after a few false starts and failed ventures (good time for some "applejack is not a useless pony" moments), she discovers a ritual spell that can regenerate lost body parts and tissue, and has record of actually working. unfortunately, some of the necessary ingredients are either extremely rare, extinct, or poorly labeled. (gemstone from specific region, flower that's extinct, so they have to use time travel to acquire it, the main ingredient is "hope" which rainbow has lost any hope of regaining her pride and flight, so that's the hardest one to get, etc.)

either way, they get all the ingredients only for rainbow to refuse the ritual. she doesn't believe she deserves to fly again because shes the reason spike is dead. Her friends ultimately convince her that spike would want her to take the ritual and she shouldn't punishing herself for a failure she couldn't have stopped, and she agrees to the ritual. she is healed in a ritual with all the required pomp and ceramony, restored to her former glory with some lasting reminder of her experience. (i don't think she should just be complete restored to default, maybe the regenerated parts of her body and wing turn pure white, never regaining her original pigmentation)

final scene is hundreds of mile underground, in a cavern. Spike is alive! (dragons are tough as hell, who knew) and in the care of... idk dwarves? mole people? its 10pm i've ran out of creativity.

sorry for rambling under your fic, great work, very emotional, got me worked up enough to imagine all ^ THAT ^

Well that was sad.
I am surprised that Twilight was able to visit RD, considering her own connection to Spike.

Good story, for its brevity. You get my like and two Spikes: :moustache: :moustache:

Iron Author.

the timing with the ground splitting open is crazy

i think im missing something, how does all of this correlate to RD hating greens?

11694564
It's the smell of roasted greens that gets her. Also, it might stem from feelings of unworthiness as she was unable to save spike, or a combination of both. The smell reminds her of what happened.

Its a great story. thank you.

Probably something to do with the fact half of this took place in one of the patches of broccoli and cabbage? I dunno.

The responses are correct here. It's the smells associated with the incident, on top of depressive guilt.

When someone experiences a trauma, stimuli that correlate with the trauma can trigger the brain to relive it. The obvious one is a loud noises making a soldier have a PTSD episode. A less obvious one is a car crash victim that can't listen to the song that was playing on the radio. Recovering from these types of associations can be a long and arduous process, especially when they're not obvious to someone on the outside; probably none of Rainbow's friends understand what exactly she's experiencing, and she might be unable to explain it to them out of embarrassment, guilt, etc.
