This story is a sequel to Wet Behind The Ears

It is a special day in Maretime Bay, but the Crystal Brighthouse is empty. Bluegill Brine has slept in, and now her friends are away. Brine is free to wander the town and enjoy the weather. The strange, beautiful weather.

A birthday gift for my friend Casketbase77. Cover art is by Ahobo.

I didn’t expect this story getting a sequel. I hope we see more Sprout and Brine romance

REALLY good work on this one-shot. REALLY good use of a fan-character that definitely deserves more attention. Definitely loved Brine's reaction to arriving on the first Winter Wishday since magic returned while Sunny and her crew were out and about. The bits with her encounter with Sprout and finding Izzy's gift to her were also beautiful stuff.

Thank you for doing this story and thank Casketbase77 for both giving you permission to use the character and for pointing us toward this story.

What? Sprout being a heroic character? UNACCEPTABLE!

A really cute follow-up. Can't really think of much to say other than to let you know that it was really enjoyable.

Don't be mean to sprout he deserves a friendship arc like every other baddie.

Perhaps I should have made it clearer that I was being sarcastic. I was joking about the fact that Sprout’s potential redemption arc has either been ignored or pushed aside for Misty (who’s admittedly a more deserving and better written character).
That being said, I want to make it clear that I don’t hate Sprout and that I would love to see him get redeemed. I’m just complaining that that idea seems to have taken a backseat.

I love how you captured the different way of perceiving the world Brine has.

All they asked was for her to press her fin into some black dust and then leave a hoofprint on a paper covered in words.

First thought: I hope that they didn't trick her into owing them a million bits or something?
Second thought: Maybe they just took permission to use her image with publicity about their invention.
Third: No, wait, almost certainly just saying the equipment (and, hopefully, future maintenance) squares them for the propeller damage. Which is... probably fair for something they couldn't have been expected to predicted in any reasonable way. Still seems like they tricked her, but I can't object to the outcome.

Sprout cleared his throat. “Hey…can I have your helmet please?” He seemed so unsure of himself, like he was the one intruding in her home. With a sucking hiss, she pried it off of her, holding it out on unsteady hooves. He took it, doddering off to the sounds of clanking metal and shuffling boxes.

I hope Maretime Bay's water is not chlorinated. I know the end we tried to raise tadpoles my family let the water sit out a bit before adding it to the tank. Even if it is, better stinging gills than suffocation, right?

The red stallion returned, a scrap of slimy kelp in his wet hoof, held away from his chest. He was cold, had no time to put a scarf on. Almost slamming it into the tub, green magic grew from his hoof and shot into the aquatic sprout. With a groan it grew, sprouting into a long and tangled green rope that floated on the surface of the water.

Smart use of magic there, rather than trying to haul a larger amount of kelp. Also, I am glad the oxygen in the tub is staying high enough. I guess it helps she has been dozing.
