One night, Rarity tells her daughter a story about her. About her life and a question that she still has yet to answer. Is she still pure or is she a tarnished diamond.

Well, you certainly did something very interesting with Melantha here; as the only one of Sombra's generals who doesn't get any personality, you made her quite interesting in a creep serial killer way.

However, I was astonished at how mean you hade Starla being here; I'm not sure how much it really fits with the way she acts in the main story (but then that could just be my memories of the later chapters clouding the way she was at the start).

While you've been rereading Starfleet IV, I've been re-reading Starfleet III (something I really wish that I'd done sooner, because there are some ideas in there I would have used) and one thing that struck me was how Starla's wedding is entirely composed of hand-me-downs. Her dress is actually Cadance's dress, re-tailored for a humanoid form; her best mare is Cadance's best mare; her flower girls are the CMC; there is not a single thing about her own wedding that belongs to her, shows her identity, involves her friends. It's quite sad, really.

Anyway, this was another great story and thanks for sharing it with us.

That is a part of it, Starla has such massive character development through the coursee of the fic and has changed that seeing her be like this is a shock. It's kind of like going back to eariler chapters of your favorite manga and being surprised at how certain characters used to act before they got the character development (NAruto's asshole tendacies towards the other rookies for instance. Guts' own problems with opening up, or light growing more insane) It's kind of like me and going to do a msting of Starfleet nowadays. I have to forget the work you and I did with the team and remember this is how they used to be. Also, this is touching upon how Starla apologized for her own sins to Rarity back during the fight at the empire and at the party.

Also, this is coming from something I kind of noticed rereading this stuff and somethings you mentioned...Starla is kind of a bitch. While season 1 didn't get as bad and season 2 had her just insult Rarity in one eppie, it gets worse later on. Season 3 has like you said, so many hand-me downs (Seriously? This was a great time to give Starla other friends that were not Equestrian or to do a call back to her own mother issues) And in season IV: She almost causes an international inicident, spends 99% of the time screaming for Lighting while being useless, and seems to have this vendetta against anyone who is not up to her standards.

. It's quite sad, really.

At the same time, you are right...this is quiet tragic that she has put herself into such a position where she can never truely be herself. She doesn't define her identity beyond Starfleet.

Really? If it's not too much to ask, could you go into more detail?

In season IV, in front of the princess of the planet they were visiting, she outright says "I knew I smelled a diva" right out in the open. Now, I am no diplomat, but I don't really think you should go around insulting other rulers of the planets. Add onto this scene, it indirectly leads Lighting to getting taken in by the princess against his will. You know, Lighting Dawn, grand high imperial whatever of Starfleet, A.K.A Grand Ruler's ward? If this had been Twilight or Flurry, or hell, lets go and say...Chibiusa. Then this would be basically begging for a war to break out just to get him back.

Thank you for telling me.

You know what usually happens is that the hero at least tried to put on a mask of civility in front of the royal brat. But hey, when was the last time Starfleet actually tried being anything remotely resembling heroes?

This is kind of off topic, but I find this song very fitting.

You know, even when I read anti-heroes like Punisher or even Deadpool, I can find something that makes them heroes to me. Not so much with Starfleet.

That's one of the things I especially love about Deadpool, his sheer amount of Hidden Depths.

When I discovered the "Tautological Templar" trope, I just knew I had to put it in Starfleet's character page.

*hugs rarity* so much inner turmoil yet still goes on, such a powerful soul. Rarity your right, your are stronger than her. You have a far stronger spirit than her. At least starla will forgive you afterwards.

For me, that song is the theme of Twilight's fight with Raven. Because if anyone deserves to be called a true hero it's Twilight in that moment.

Yes, she wll forgive, but it takes a lot of hard work to get there and she had to go through hell to get to it. This makes me think I am a fan of the "Earn your Happy Ending trope." *remembers that his favorite anime are Ruroni Kenshin, FMA, and loves Avatar the Last Airbender* Ok, so maybe I am.

This is why I love having fans who are into things I never played, they come up with such cool ideas

Oooooh I like those animes and i also love that trope too. It makes it feel the character gaining the happy ending even better and way more satisfying.

Melantha is like clay! Melantha is like God! Melantha is here to fix us all.

Cookies to whoever gets the reference.

Anyway, I do love it when good fics do Slice-of-Life stories, especially ones which go more into a character's psyche and/or builds up the world they live in.

The path of the hero is the most difficult path
