Nugget

"Hi! I'm Nugget, and I'm your friend to the end. Haydeeho! Ha ha ha!"

E

Inspired by the events from "The Crystal Empire Parts 1 & 2"

Before the war between the Kingdom of Equestria and the Crystal Empire, King Sombra sent a plethora of messages and documentations to Princess Celestia. In short, most of them were proclamations for war against Equestria. After a while, a certain princess grew tired of the constant declarations. As a response, she sent only one letter back to King Sombra...

...And this was what she wrote.

How to beat someone's ass in one thousand words or less.

Celestia showing some authority:rainbowkiss:

Also luna would seriously be an enormous asset in war, sleeplessness is not to be underestimated:twilightoops:

He who wishes to fight must first count the cost. When you engage in actual fighting, if victory is long in coming, then men’s weapons will grow dull and their ardor will be dampened. If you lay siege to a town, you will exhaust your strength. Again, if the campaign is protracted, the resources of the State will not be equal to the strain. Now, when your weapons are dulled, your ardor dampened, your strength exhausted and your treasure spent, other chieftains will spring up to take advantage of your extremity. Then no man, however wise, will be able to avert the consequences that must ensue… In war, then, let your great object be victory, not lengthy campaigns.

– Sun Tzu, The Art of War

Sombra is terrified. :pinkiehappy:

And you were doubting yourself :rainbowlaugh:

Seems like you can chalk this one up as a sucess

Given he was WINNING that war when it happened during Cutie Re-Mark....I don't think he was in any way terrified. In fact, this letter may have in fact provoked him into attacking if he remembered it all those centuries later. So if Celestia was expecting to roll over the guy every and any time he popped up...,then I think we can safely say she failed miserably. Especially given there was NO mention of Luna during that war in Cutie Re-Mark, we can assume that banishing him prior to her own transformation into Nightmare Moon just weakened Celestia's own position when he returns.

We also know that it's unlikely there was an actual war. Celestia and Luna flew up there, fought him, and expected to win and sing happy happy joy joy. Only Sombra was prepared to make their victory a Pyrrhic one. Which he did. And when he comes back in that alternate reality in Cutie Re-Mark, he knew what he was up against and how to counter it. Hell, he almost won in the main timeline, so we can assume that if he HAD gotten the Crystal Heart, this war might have occurred there too.

Not to mention how he almost won in the comics.

Hmmm...

Now you got me thinking about who would still win that war in the Cutie-Remark.

Oh, right, it would still be Princess Celestia.

Think I can narrow it down to three key aspects that prove vital when it comes to war. Those three keys are aerial advantage, intelligence and leadership, and resources. Celestia simply dominates in all categories.

To start, she has complete control over the pegasus since their entire race lies within the borders of Equestria. Thus, it gives her an aerial advantage. She could use that for scouting troop movements, planing and implementing strategic assaults against the Empire, and also carrying out large cargo movements quickly and effectively (making her logistics management better than that of Sombra).

Then there is leadership. Not counting the Princess herself, it's been explained through Wonderbolt history that Equestria has had impressive and capable military leaders to carry out orders and make expert decisions on the field. Thus, I would assume Celestia would have Officers capable to help command and lead the fight against King Sombra. On the other side, we don't exactly know any other leaders, beside the King. And for such a young nation, to pick up and train officers to fight against a strong, well developed kingdom, would pretty much be like sending a baby wolf to go fight against a lion. It wouldn't work out as well.

Lastly, resources. Equestria is spread far and wide, covering miles-upon-miles of farm land, industrial complexes, and other facilities needed to conduct war. All the Crystal Empire seems to have is near-next to nothing unless they grab some land south of their borders. Plus, I will assume that Equestria's population is far superior than that of the Crystal Empire (My rough estimate would be Equestria's population would be 4 to 8x based upon major cities found within both respected borders). That means, Princess Celestia would have no problem with a draft, and having all the means to supply and command her troops against an army I assume might be undersupplied.

Anyways, this is all hypothetical and straight of the top of my head. That's why some points of mine aren't that well defended. Oh well! That's just my two cents. :twilightsheepish:

Remember though that despite everything you just claimed Celestia would do....Sombra was still WINNING. He had actually managed to push Equestria BACK. To the point that Celestia herself isn't enough to just stampede over Sombra's forces. Applejack even flat out says it; even with Celestia leading them, the war is still going on. If your viewpoint is right, the war should have lasted only a few days, tops, with or without Luna (who is never even mentioned as taking part in the war, btw, leaving her entire status in doubt.) and yet the war is not only still going on. Sombra is slowly but surely pushing forward, claiming more and more territory. To the point that, while Equestria has achieved high levels of tech and industry it's still not enough to stop him. So...yeah, I'm sorry, but in this case, you're just flat out wrong. You seem to be of the belief that Celestia is some kind of a god. Not only was this shot down by Lauren Faust herself, she's been flat out proven to be capable of being beaten, so it's not impossible to believe that Sombra has the capacity to win the war. Because he was shown already doing so.

I just now shook my head and realized a kids show just made me think about the economical and statistics for war between two different fictional countries. :rainbowlaugh:

I am the Angel of Fire.

This gave me such tingles :pinkiecrazy: Tingles in all of the right places~
Damn fine show good sir/madam!

Eh, neither official enough to be believable nor savage enough to be entertaining for my taste. (Though I must say I've never read an actual historical memorandum so my opinion on the first part of my comment is of limited value)

Heheheheheheheh. It is kinda funny, yeah. :rainbowlaugh:

This was a good read. :)

And then she proceeds to have her shit wrecked when it turns out when it turns out King Sombra’s troops are all mind controlled innocents who don’t sleep nor fear anyway and Sombra turns out to have Alicorn level magic.

That’s a fun idea, but did you not see the map? King Sombra already conquered and covered half of Equestria in gigantic crystals. Clearly Celestia was not winning the war.
