Equestria is suffering a dire problem. You are part of that solution, even if you aren't entirely aware of it. No, we don't need a dragon slayer or something like that. We're sure you can handle this just as you are.

*sigh* Normally I'd strongly advocate for trying to get a piece of that tablet, but I worry over the possibilities that come with inadvertently changing the past. If just changing the results of a foals' race can lead to the destruction of the future, pilfering something that should stay there can cause far worse results. Beyond that, if Starlight only has one more hop in her, then we should head back. It's not like the past will vanish before we can try it again.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to go full retard and just free Luna early (though I have no idea how, or how we'd then redeem her), but if we're going to throw caution to the wind, I'd prefer for it to be with sexy results, and I doubt that Nightmare Moon is feeling horny after her get-out-of-moon free card. Unless we have the power to bring her to heel and put her in her place (e.g. with our dick), then it's probably not a good idea.
So yeah, option #1.
I knew this was a bad move, hindsight is a bitch aint it poeple. Should have gone to the end of Humanity first, now we have a clue but no context. The only way to progress now is to see where humanity has gone. Number 1, also if Celestia used human tech to do the spell then perhaps the solution is also in Human tech.
4
We have a semen knowledge cutie mark.
A semen knowledge mark!
Like, it could be for the whole "script" way that the ponies refer to genetic code... but I prefer that it's for a bit of that and a lot of curiosity and magic research.
Good job, us?
Also lol about the, in retrospect, question of whether or not Celestia created cutie marks given that Luna and Nightmare Moon had one. Could a just asked Luna the whole time if she already had one.
When Celestia said that it was controlled by someone I originally read it as "I choose to give them out with the method I am now using on everyone else." Seems like Luna was under the impression that this is not the way it always was, though.
It could yet be a natural(ish) phenomenon that Celestia learned to compel, though.
im going with option 2
7765131 What's your vote, good pony?
2, 4
1
It isn't I doubt Luna being able to do the spell it is for her not to abuse the spell. Plus lets not over exert Starlight here people.
Investigate this tablet.
2.

Why would I dilute the purity of my thoughts with my opinions?
What is the difference between 1 and 3? They both say go back, and I assume it meant back to the present, but then you use go back and it sounds like the past?
And did Starlight say she had enough to keep going or was this first one the most she could do safely?
4 if we can do that without hopping, then 1 (assuming that leads back to the present rather than back in time). Taking the tablet back with us to the lab could help Careful tremendously.
7765186 I should rephrase. 3 is go back in time. 1 is go back home.
I vote for number 1.
4 then 1. It would suck if Starlight wasn't able to teleport us back after watching the fall of man. I have a sneaking feeling that Tia may already have bits of the tablet back in the past. Finding pieces she did not have may help us reverse her bad but good intention decision.
I knew this was a bad idea but I didn't see that coming... Fairly obvious in retrospect.
Oh well, I guess "my" multiple personality disorder outvoted me.
3 We must go deeper. (Farther back in time, to the fall of humanity)
3 Starlight can go back (forward) in time to prevent this from happening by arriving before we depart. (Let's give people temporal headaches)
2 Luna has earned my trust in the matter. (It might be a good idea to teach her so we don't have all our chickens in one basket)
7765268 I feel the urge to point out that would be an instant paradox. If you never go back, you never come to tell yourself never to come back. A new splinter universe would be forged. If you don't care about the original one, that works?
I vote for option 1.
Question:
If we vote for a "bad" option, is it possible to kill ourselves and end the story far too early or will you save us?
I say just 1. We can always return if necessary.
7765270 Nothing wrong with forking reality.
ALSO we've already seen that it's possible when Starlight cast the spell... You gave me the rope, now I'm tying the noose. If you'd please stick your head in it that'd be super.
7765273 You folks sure do love making time splinters.
4 then 1
I have a feeling getting a mark at this point is a bad thing. We should head back and see if there is anything that can be done to remove it.
1 is my travel option. I want to say 4, but...what was the story? Guy ran off the marked path and stepped on a butterfly, changing the timeline? It was some time-travel hunting business, they were taking him to hunt a T-rex. Just go before you muck something up.
To start, 2. With the growing number of questions and mysteries, it is looking increasingly important that knowledge be shared so all can have a more complete understanding and list of options to save ponykind. To that end, and to ensure balance, task Luna to give Starlight her personal oath of trust and friendship in exchange for having Starlight teach her the spell. More visits to the past are likely going to be necessary, so Starlight might get burned out if she is the only one capable.
For now, 4. A closer inspection could lead us to recognizing the possible technology involved. That could be critical later when looking even further back, trying to identify the origins of cutie marks or what caused to end of Man. Through use of disguises again, it also couldn't hurt to do a little exploring, so long as past Celestia is avoided. 5
Not voting for it, but it's an entertaining thought to set Luna free. That would immediately cause a splinter timeline though, so it is not conducive to the search for answers. And she was violent, so probably not conducive to the public health of the time, either.
7765207
I say... 1. We have things to ask Celestia.
Out of the timebuggery options the only I would go for is getting the tablet... because then Celestia will remember forever that she lost it/it was stolen, until we show up with it and say "oh yeah, that was us."
I... they're mutually exclusive, but I'd also like 3, if Starlight can stomach it... but we'd need to leave before a world changing event screws with us more.
1 let's not risk being stuck
7765325 You're referring to Ray Bradbury's short story "A Sound of Thunder." Good on you for knowing one of the classics!
2
4. If you have the bits then maybe somepony can magic it back together.
4, 2, then 1. Knowledge is power. Double the knowledge, and increase your chances of fixing this mess.
2 & 3. We must go deeper, but also have the resources to do it again if needed. We should go to the fall of mankind, it most likely holds the key for the mystery of the mark.
1, I don't like time travel anymore, let's go back. Before something else bad happens .
3 then 2. We rarely retrieve enough info with the first glance, a second try is warranted. Then, once Starlight is exhausted, we can convince her to relinquish the spell with circumstance.
Keep going! ;)
ponies you couldn't see - ponies you hadn't been able to see

Luna found it odd - Luna find it odd -or- Hadn't Luna found it odd
shut up. And - shut up, and

And our new pony name shall be - Bullet List!
Seriously though, this is the first time our decisions have resulted in a direct physical consequence to our person, barring our agreeing to be stud in the first place. The true cost may not be evident for some time, though at least we were not form locked.
We can look for bits of that 'tablet' which has the added benefit of allowing Starlight to rest. How long does she need, by the way? Then it may behoove us to go back ever farther, after all. If Princess Celestia did use technology of a sort to kick this all off, then the origin of that tech could be to everyone's benefit after all.
Beyond that, sightseeing is dangerous. Princess Celestia is savvy beyond measure and might yet take notice of us. If that happens I'm not sure we can count on Starlight keeping her muzzle shut and landing us in deeper hot water.
Oh, and when we return it would be good to let Moon Dancer scan our cutiemark it's a first generation mark and could hold a real clue to a cure.
Also, if we decide to return to the 'present' instead of traveling back to the fall of humans, we can also ask Princess Celestia directly what she found and where.
For that matter we'd better hope that our arrival didn't cause some ripple in magic, or that the mark we have isn't important to it all working and our absence is what caused Princess Celestia's spell to go awry. That would be... embarrassing.
This... may have been the worst idea ever.
7765367 That was the one. I remember taking out a collection-book, had a bunch of those stories. A sound of Thunder, The Most Dangerous Game, there were others but I don't remember them at the moment.
On the topic of timeline-breaking: I mean, the infinite copies of ourselves in the time travel scene at least strongly implies a many-worlds intepretation – we (and everyone else?) are already splintering the timeline with every decision we make. Once that's in play, ethics... kind of goes out the window. If every choice we would make is inevitable in some fragement of the multiverse, making good ones doesn't actually help anypony, only changes which outcomes our personal consciousness gets to experience. At that point, there's no sense in making decisions based on anything but pure selfishness – but pure selfishness also dictates a world driven by that philosophy would be pretty shitty and not to take it too far.
Anyway, the splinter universe(s) forged from us messing up the past are going to (have) come about regardless, that's just metaphysics. It's just a matter of whether we want to live in the world where we (maybe) fixed everything before it even started. Which sounds pretty good, but I'm kind of attached to Careful, and there's next to no chance of her existing in timeline that went any differently, especially not the one we started to get to know.
1
Not really sure how a tablet and magic wand look anything alike, but human technology controlling the fabric or reality and ponies definitely fits with everything so far. Humanity figured out how to hack physics, passed the singularity, then enough of them decided to become ponies based on an old tv show, possibly because of time travel shenanigans, possibly because of nefarious conspiracies that control the direction of society, and possibly because ponies are just too cute. The real question isn't "How did humanity die out," it's "what the fuck why don't you have the internet anymore." It would be really helpful if we could just browse horsepun-wikipedia for a few
hoursdays to learn all this stuff, instead of tampering with temporal space.Cutie mark's fine, I suppose. Is this actually some kind of transcendant experience? I heard it was supposed to be kind of a big deal. Is it affecting our psychology at all? Stronger impulses to break things down into random discrete options? Maybe we should all agree to vote on a something off the list next chapter, to see if Destiny
Silvergets mad. We should also compare/contrast with Careful once we get back. (Y'know, if she still exists.)Do 2 then 3,
#4 then #1
Confirm for certain that that was indeed a tablet. If so, then it was the wording on the tablet that botched things up. So, try to get another tablet on their next time trip to see if it's possible to reverse/modify the effects.
7765207
I change my vote to 3 then, I misunderstood this to be reverse.
4 and 2
7765207
Back to the future, one might say.
Only if Starlight can be sure she can recover enough to cast it,
4.
Give an excuse by looking for parts, it appears the tablet broke due to power load, not converting, unless it did? Either way, important information.
If she recovers.
3.
Go back further into the past so that more information can be discovered before going Back To The Future, hopefully without needing the assistance of Pinky McFly, and pointng out to Celestia that she used a Semi Colon instead of a Colon in her source code, and thereby made a half assed job of things.
7765554 Typos left to drift into other probabilities. I wonder if you got the meta humor in your cutie mark...?
7765831
It looks Silver's cutie mark, as well as ASCII art of sperm?
ok I vote #2 and #3 #2 so that Luna can help with #3
7765844 Huh, neglected to think of Silver, but that's true.
Still, not what I'm hunting for.
Hrm...
Does it resemble lines of code in MUF or MPI? It's literally been nearly 20 years since I've mucked about with those and I can no longer recall what the interface looks like.
4. I've got the strangest inkling that the "tablet" interacts with ponies like the animation of Who Framed Rodger Rabbit. It probably doesn't, but still.
This also brings up more questions. Ponies appear to have this idea of "destiny" associated with Cutie Marks. What if, then, an individual chooses to reject their "destiny"?
Also having the mark on the shoulder/upper arm of a biped looks way cooler than the butt where it would be covered by pants
The cure for pony infertility is clearly to knock up Nightmare Moon! With Luna assisting!"Starlight Down"? Yeah, let's avoid that. And since it sounds like the return trip isn't as simple as undoing the spell, we probably shouldn't risk going back and becoming ponykind's grandpa.
Even if we kinda' were.
But not like that...
Actually...
What if that's how it's meant to go down? Me, Starlight, and Luna all trapped in the past, starting the pony race...
Yeah, let's do #1 before my ideas get any crazier. Trixie still needs a bun for that oven! And then, on our next day off, we can go back in time again! Or maybe bug Celestia. Or both at once! I'm sure she'd like to know where ponies came from. (It might help.)
