Sugar, Spice and... Improvise?

While on a visit to Manehatten, Pinkie Pie decides to throw her friends yet another party, complete with amazing cake. Yet, she soon finds that things are not so simple in the big city, and while forces completely beyond her control seemingly conspire against her efforts to buy a cake, she is forced to improvise. After all, if anypony can make an amazing cake out of anything it's her, even if the only things she can find are certainly not among those intended for baking.

Seems strange that there were no bakeries open...she wasn't trying to find one after 8 pm, was she?

7211050 I'm not sure, it was just supposed to be one of those funny, random coincidences that the characters couldn't quite understand. Besides, it probably was early or really late in the day, considering that's when she could best sneak away without attracting to much attention.

7211851 Most bakeries close at around two or three PM unless they're also a cafe, restaurant, or bar. she could have gone out at around four in the afternoon for a party planned to start at around seven or eight.

You know, Pinkie has absolutely no one to blame but herself. She walked into what I'm fairly certain was an exotic alchemical shop and tried to shop for cake ingredients. She's a good chef, and with maybe one or even two of those with plentiful regular ingredients she could have done something, but substituting everything except baking powder? She's lucky she didn't start a zompony apocalypse with her concoction.
