When I read the title, I thought of this video (Tara Strong is in the video by the way):

You have my interest sir, though, adding this story to a certain folder in the blueblood group is kind of a spoiler I think.

7183159 It's a story mostly about political intrigue. With Blueblood in it. That's a spoiler in and of itself. :derpytongue2:

7183164
Well, yes. That's what I was saying. The folder you added it to was the spoiler. I won't be expecting a benevolent Blueblood. I'll be eagerly awaiting a magnificent, villainous, bastard of a Blueblood. (Which incidently, is the best kind of Blueblood)

7183226 Weeelll, expect more of a very ambitious Blueblood with questionable morals than a downright villanious one, actually. There were two parts to that folder, after all.

7183244
Well, that's not as good as a magnificent bastard, but its far better than a sympathetic Blueblood, so I'll take it.

7183259 Well, the next chapter has been posted, anyway, so have a look, if you please.

Ambitious Blueblood being shipped with Fancy Pants? Did you go through my favorites list and just decide to cater directly to me? I eagerly await the next chapter.

Sapientia, Lady of Wisdom; Bellona, Lady of War; Gaia, Lady of the Earth; Concordia, Lady of Peace; Mercurius, Lord of Trade; Bacchus, Lord of Merriment, and many others.

Sapientia and Mercurius I had to look up, but the others I know well. This is quickly becoming my favorite Still-Being-Updated fanfic on this site. Keep up the good work!

Blueblood frowned, his eyes taking on that ‘pleading’ look that always managed to make her heart (and Blueblood’s, she suspected) melt, at least for the time being.

I'm suspecting that first Blueblood should be a Fancy Pants?

If Octavia is in this fic, then Vinyl can't be far behind...

I'm curious as to when this story takes place as the Sparkle's standing would increase when both children became royalty. Also, I'm curious if Twilight Sparkle went to the same parties as her parents and knows what they get up to.

I was expecting Blue to poison him once it mentioned Golden's drink right after the hug. But where was Blue keeping the poison?

7223573 Blueblood's in a vest. Pony vests have pockets large enough to conceal a small vial or so. He came prepared, just in case. After all, Blueblood's pleasant around his friends, but cross him things like scruples almost disappear. :twilightblush:

The idea that aristocrats are incapable of more than 'petty intrigues' may be comforting but is absolutely ridiculous. These are the families that climbed to the top and remained there for generations, which is impossible without good skills and strong character. That does not make them good, of course, but definitely not petty. So, thumbs down *just from the annotation*

Seriously, you can do better.

7236914 It seems you didn't actually read the rest of the description, or the story. Aristocrats are certainly depicted as capable of more than petty intrigues, as our main characters are aristocrats, just relatively new ones for the most part. The antagonists are the faction within the aristocracy that has gotten so obsessed with trying to oppose the new nobles rather than do anything useful that at this point, that it is mostly just petty intrigues trying to undermine the actions of the other factions to spite them.

Obviously I didn't, because the current annotation does not promise anything of value. There is enough fics/books in my to-read folder to not bother.

this must be what blueblood asks his servants

totally unrelated but this is interesting and i want to see what happens to golden after he drinks his wine. it's also one of a very few stories where blueblood feels like a good character.

I really like this for some reason and I have no idea why. It's pretty good and I hope that you continue it.

EDIT: Wait I know why. You've made these characters interesting. This eclectic collection of ponies have been made interesting and I enjoy reading about them.

ahhh, true love at first Blood (Or Pants .-.) now this has got me thinking about few assumptions for future chapters about Blue and Fancy.

Great to see an other chapter of this story, can't wait to see the next chaper

oh dear. hopefully nothing too bad is planned for him. maybe they just wanted to have their own orgy and didn't know how to set one up

Can't wait to see the next chapter.

Okay, so I'm glad I finally got around to reading this. Gonna try do two sets of comments, one done after each chapter after I read it, and another after every couple of chapters seeing how all the parts are building into each other.

Took me until Night Light's appearance to realize this was alt-universe and not simply historical fiction.

Really digging the roman groove.

So, Night Light and Princess Luna are both in this story. Looking forward to finding out what happened in this timeline wrt banishment, elements, etc.

Blueblood is best blondie.

Shades of early Pratchett in the first few grafs. Actually, shades of early Thieves World, which was the principal set of books that Pratchett was spoofing in the beginning. The very first short story in that series where politicians in the capital discuss the posting of the noble prince to the backwater of Sanctuary really stand out at me here.

Discussions of fantasy politics - as in, how the politicians talk to each other, what causes dysfunction, what they fight about, rather than actual left-right politics as we'd understand them - can be a peeve of mine. I've got nothing against senate scenes that are full-blown korean parliment style brawls, but I always like it to be backed up by forces that are more than 'politicians are dumb and vain.' I like it when they're sabotaging necessary projects because one set of politicians feel they can't be seen doing anything that would help a regional opponent, or when a whole political alliance takes a ridiculously stubborn position on eight random issues to draw attention away from their self-serving position on a ninth. Curious to see where you go with this.

Time to keep reading!

Amphorae - learned a new word! You're definitely going all-out with the ancient Mediterranean theme. I'm genuinely curious as to what one of those ancient cities would look like if it was build into the side of a mountain like Canterlot.

...is this actually taking place in Canterlot, or does it have a different name in this canon? We're wading into the area where the show itself has soupy worldbuilding, with the Equestrian capital named after a legendary british court, while the country itself is a magical version of America. Question is, would you go for a ponified version of Rome, or a ponified version of Londinium?

Ancient pony architecture! Slip in a few Vitrivius references and you'll have my undying admiration!

Fleur nodded, thinking back to some of the stories Fancy had told her of Blueblood’s stamina. “So Fancy told me.” A small grin made its way onto her muzzle, “He didn’t say he was a little undersized, though.”

I'm flashing back to some excellent art by Braeburned

You got intrigue in my politics!

Fleur nodded, thinking back to some of the stories Fancy had told her of Blueblood’s stamina. “So Fancy told me.” A small grin made its way onto her muzzle, “He didn’t say he was a little undersized, though.”

There's a certain style clash here, but I can definitely see how it could be integrated. A kind of... Romepunk aesthetic?

priestess of Sapientia

Wisdom goddess? Interesting. Curious about the role of the Princesses as gods/demigods/rulers among the paganism.

Okay ancient rome as distinct from ancient equestria. This is getting interesting, I like what you're playing with this here.

Element of Laughter.

Ooh, so Elements still definitely a thing here. Gotcha

I'm seeing two things from the politics mentioned in this chapter:
1) Politicians as supremely self-interested fuckers, with massive over-representation by a few families in the capital city. Politics seen as a burdensome responsibility by many. An explicitly defanged aristocracy, prevented from their worst excesses by benevolent(?) autocrats. Thorough elitism, and tension between the under-and-overclass.
2) I would expect a backlash from FP's tactics in the prologue, depending on how smart the old money senators are. I'm fairly sure that they won't like the implication that the natural infighting between them is giving a massive shift of power to the plebs, especially if they are of the elitist view that given self-rule, plebs will vote themselves all the money, become indolent, and lead to immediate ruin.

“Overreacted? Mother, you had ‘Ruby Brooch is a whore’ graffitied over every plebeian restaurant, club, and squalid little dive bar in the city!”

I must admit, all the drama that Golden inadvertently started to try save face after failing to embarrass FP is pretty fuckin' funny.

“But then again, the feminine role has always suited you better, hasn’t it?”

Interesting. I (iirc) know that the roman view was that dude-boning was fine as long as you were a striker and not a goalkeeper, and that receiving was bad because it was taking the woman's role. Given that this is a matriarchy and possibly greek inspired, I feel like this exchange makes more sense as a culture clash between two very different mindsets. Like, if someone called my missus the T-slur or deliberately misgendered her, I'd also want to slug them in the face - not because I resent the implication that my trans girlfriend is trans, but because I find the very idea of disliking trans people for being trans utterly loathesome.

NICE TWIST!

Gonna take a break here before i get back into the next chapter.

Very nice Rome HBO references.
Ciaran Hinds was awesome in that show, I loved it.

Interesting story, any chance it will see love sometime soon?

I wonder where they are now...I'd really love to see the ending to this. This is one of the best Fleur and Fancy Pants and BlueBlood stories on Fimfiction!
