Domination of Equestria - T+15 days.
“You’ve been avoiding me.”
“Have I my dear? Sorry about that.”
“You haven’t lain with with me since our wedding night.”
“Well you can understand, changing a millennia old government doesn’t just happen in a blink. Thank you for all your help by the way, but there’s still a lot to do. The sooner it gets done the better however.”
“There’s less change than you make out. All you’ve needed to do, fundamentally, is move sovereign powers from the established diarchy to yourself. You did that in one day.”
“That may be true, but you know as well as I that the reality is much different. There’s dismantling the nobles, replacing the generals, annexing the cities, and all the rest. It’s one thing to say you have all the power, quite another to actually make ponies feel that power.”
“This...is true. But still you do sleep. I have seen your dreams.”
“Luna, we’ve talked about this…”
“I know, I know. I cannot expect you to remain faithful, or indeed to love me as I do you, but...I suppose I simply did not expect to be discarded so...quickly.”
“Haa…Look, Luna, My Dear, you’ve not been discarded.”
“Yet you refuse to lie with me, and instead prance with...others, in your dreams.”
“Luna, you know as well as I what has brought this on. I’m sorry it has come up so early in our entanglement but I cannot sleep with you as you are.”
“As I am? What do you...Is it because I am in heat? Is this it? It is not I that you find repulsive, but the idea of being sire to my foal!?”
“Calm down Luna. It is not simply you or your foal I have any aversion to. I simply will not be having any foals of any kind.”
“You will not be having foals? But how will you continue your lineage? You are not immortal as myself and the other Alicorns, you cannot rule forever.”
“That remains to be seen.”
“It may be that there are roads to immortality, but none are sure. It would make far more sense to secure your line through the ages, for insurance if nothing else.”
“Heh, no. That’s defeatist talk. If I need insurance against death then there are many better ways to go about it.”
“But what of the joy of raising a foal? Would not a little filly who you could mould into your own image give you joy?”
“I confess, the idea is tempting. But, there’s a bigger problem of them straying too far from my ideals. That’s the pesky problem with independent thought and free will. You can never completely subvert it.”
“That’s never stopped you trying.”
“That’s never stopped me keeping a loaded gun in our bed.”
“Point.”
“No, a daughter would be a bundle of joy and energy to start with, but as she grew up to express the better of our genes she would be so striking a beauty as to gather her own following. Then, when it’s absolutely the most inconvenient moment she would decide that she knows best and attempts to depose me. Or, even worse, she falls to the wiles of some rugged and charming rebellious leader who’s on some ‘crusade’ against the tyrannical government.”
“I cannot sway you on this can I?”
“No Luna, you can’t. There will not be the pitter patter of tiny hooves about this castle.”
“I...see…”
“If it’s any consolation, I’ll rut your brains out for a week once your heat is over.”
“I...I’ll look forward to it, Master…”
Overlord Rule No:19 I will not have a daughter. She would be as beautiful as she was evil, but one look at the hero's rugged countenance and she'd betray her own father.
Well she could always adopt from an orphanage, the child would most likely be loyal for having removed them from a bad one like your earlier chapter.
there is also the follow-up to this one; don't have ONE kid, have LOTS of them! The males are always backstabbing each other and the girls are always fighting over the "hero" so just leaves them the heck alone.
6658031
Not to mention, the grandkids would be quite loyal. As stated partially in one of the rules. "It's important to spend time with grandkids."
6658014 a good backup plan for if the immortality thing doesn't work out. Just remember to do it when you're sixty or something, to reduce the temptation for him to betray you and reduce the impact when he inevitably does.
Well, there is one other route around that... but this guy,6658031 , already said the other route which is very true, and when the last son is done killing all his brothers, the father will already be on his bloody deathbed and as for the girls, well if it goes the way of old medieval times then the only girl who hasn't been poisoned, strangled, suffocated, trapped in a dungeon, or disappeared during a long ride or stroll through the forest that is full of wolves, bears, and other creatures, will end up either marrying the only son left or being sent to a prison cell in a tower of the castle from which she will plot her revenge and once the hero breaks her free of the cell she shall then use him to gain her revenge and once sitting upon the throne proceed to have the hero either executed or turned into a piece of eye candy who can't do crap for fear of poison in his food or a dagger in the back.
Cloning and mind transference.
If your current body is unable to be made immortal, clone yourself and if you can keep it from developing a personality or consciousness and keep it a blank slate so that you can transfer your consciousness into it at a later date.
Thus in a way you are immortal.
6658278 M. Bison from Street Fighter tried that.
His clone went to work for the British Government and is now known as Cammy White.
6658278 or just cut straight to machine, eventually become trillions of trillions of nanobots so that you can spread to the point that not even multiple supernova can wipe you out completely
6658278 I am pretty sure Darth Sidious did that as well.
This is why I could never be able evil overlord. I'd have to settle with being a benevolent one...
6658014 Presumably the five year old advisor could also be the adopted son/daughter for efficiency then? I mean if their whole purpose is to help daddy succeed in his reign then you're already instilling the right mindset and thus the assured loyalty from them.
This is one rule I can't entirely agree with. Look at Azula from Avatar: She was beautiful, but just as sadistic and evil as her father, and was loyal to him till the end.
This one is one of those incredibly tempting rules. I'd probably consider it after all your opposition has been removed.
6658639 bad example, granted that's true but she was poisoned with guilt and misery at her actions by the end of the series she is braking down, her end is not a pretty one.
And it wasn't just that she suddenly felt the weight of her actions at the end. On the episode where the fire gang share stories about themselves by the beach we learn that she hurts, she hurts that her own mother preferred her brother over her and look at her like a monster, that she wasn't appealing to boys because she always ended up intimidating them, and that ultimately lead to a bad self image.
With her it's more like her views always aligned with her father's than she was feeling loyal towards him, after all she neglected to tell him that she thought the avatar was still alive and just left him to find out through some watchmen that spotted him by chance.
But I digress,
It's not that the son and daughter are nessesarely going to be a threat to the overload is more like the likelihood they will be is high to the point they are probably not worth the risk.

yay I'm a father. My daughter Saria was born on Thuesday the 17.
*reads the chapter* Awwwwww man there goes point 42 of my 'things to accomplish in my lifetime' now I never get to do cool stuff like supressing minorities, stealing, manipulation, ruling with an iron fist and throwing rebels into the dungeon.
Some rules are made to be broken. And does the Overlord not believe in birth control? I know condoms are sketchy, but he could use magic.
Honestly, why even care about your legacy? By the time you die, you will be, well, dead, and whatever happens won't change a thing for you. Immortality is nice, but if it can't be achieved, I don't see the need for backup plans.
6659146 Poor planning on your part, really.
That was fun, may I have another? Looking forward to more.
Keep up the good work. Deus tecum.

Maybe he's Catholic?
Again the same issue with having a son, as mentioned previously it can be subverted by having lots of kids. The Overlord isn't secure in his victory yet. I also believe he's gathering all the Elements to make their souls into a philosopher stone to make himself immortal, like Father from Fullmetal Alchemist.
6660562 He's not /that/ evil, jeez.
6658491 i like the way you think
6663600
6658491
The point of a 5 year old advisor is that you regularly swap them out for younger, stupider, less-world-aware children.
6660827
6658031
6658014
The best solution would be to repeatedly birth/adopt/raise kids, then boot them out, then repeat, while all of them know they are not legitimate heirs, but instead are raised to dislike politicking or rulership or holding power over others, and taught instead to hold true to the principle of being themselves and bettering themselves.
Blood descendants could be sent off to distant lands, the frontiers of space, the frontiers of dimensional outposts, as every men without any connections, trained to despise people caring about their bloodlines.
The rest of the adopted or taken-off-the-street or diplomatic-offering children are just allowed to choose a path, then booted in that general direction.
The word "Master" made me shudder a bit. If you removed that this chapter would actually be overall sweet. *shrug* Dunno.
I thought taking a weapon to bed was a bad idea , especially a gun which requires no skill to use . Rather be proficient at least a single martial arts and wrestling .
7550938 Contrary to popular belief guns need just as much training to be efficient. At least if we're talking pistols and you're aiming at something more than 20 feet away. And in bed to kill your husband/wife a knife is just as efficient probably more so cuz if you have a short barrel and to weak to control it you can actually miss at that distance. I keep a gun next to my head in case someone kicks in my door with their martial arts. Bullets will always be faster than a fist. Don't get me wrong if you're close enough use your hands, you'd just be wasting time if you're that proficient at the martial art.

And go on to have daddy issues, and join the rebels out of spite, and inevitably return on the warpath. It's like you want him to set himself up for a karmic defeat.
In my opinion, it depends on how you raise the kid. Well, to a degree. Even if raised evil, they could have a conscience within that could rear it's head at the worst time. On the other hand, it isn't like you need to secure your empire lasting beyond your death since you'll be dead and won't care anymore.
