Since Chrysalis agreed to a peace treaty with Equestria, the Changeling Kingdom has finally begun to establish itself. With Chrysalis as its monarch and an entire culture to examine and learn about, Twilight's been tasked to write some historical reports for the Princesses about their new "neighbors" and their history. And the Changelings are willing to talk...mostly.

...but will Twilight like what they have to say?

Don't be afraid to leave commentary, questions reviews or critique. I will never get better without any of that.

Looks interesting so far, but there's already a story with this title.

5051540 who knew(I didn't, even though I've read it)

Huh, this is pretty interesting. I'll certainly be paying attention to it.

One oddity though; the time line. If all these interviewees knew Sombra a thousand years ago and they're being interview by Twilight Sparkle NOW, then does that mean changelings have thousand year long life spans or is there some other event you have yet to tell us about? :duck:

5051540

Did not know that...suppose I should change the title.

5051611

Well actually, many of them know of Sombra through "the stories" their parents and grandparents told, but some DO actually live 1000 years, Chrysalis included, and I'm going to explain why in the next chapter. I want to more deeply examine their culture and even their physiology!

A lot of the fics, that try to flesh out the culture of the changelings, focus on making them more relatable to ponies. Not many try to give them a culture that feels so uniquely theirs.

The words in UPPERCASE get really annoying. Please stop that.

5052063 Well, good to know you have it planed out then. It was just an oddity that just stood out to me, that's all. :ajsmug:

5053545

Thank you! I'll cut down on them. That IS helpful advice.

lol insane colt posse

You have a most interesting take on changelings. I am enjoying it quite a bit so far. :coolphoto:

5225909

Indeed! I thought it was a funny little idea too. It can't JUST be Vinyl Scratch and Octavia making music after all...

5227150

Thank you very much! :D

I've read stories with a Japanese take on changelings before, but never North/South Korean. Interesting.

5272560
Yes, MagicMan's take on the Changeling culture in particular and his story "Maternal Instinct" does that, but I wished to try a more Korean culture, especially since North and South Korea are so drastically different. It was a way to examine different types of Changelings and expand what they were about, but above all, I wanted to get across the idea "Look, they're not complete monsters, but that doesn't make the ponies monsters either". I sought to humanize the Changelings a little without taking away the idea that they're still quite dangerous and not just misunderstood victims.

5273041
I was thinking of a different story, but still, nice work.

From what I've read so far, Changelings seem to have an Oriental-style culture.

5282782

Indeed! Korean, actually. The very names of the clans and families I took from Districts within Korea. I'd like to think I did my research. ^_^

Noooo alreadyy end? It was such a good story.

5311793

I'm glad you liked it, but yeah, I thought this was the right way to end it. And on the right...shall we say...note? ;)

Right okay, we're on the last chapter. A bit peculiar place to end it, as it could easily be continued, but it's up to you.

This was a pretty good chapter. It amazes me that with all these changeling fics, very few ever actually try to tackle culture like art and music, so at least you're going for something outside the box and hat off to you for doing so.

While my skeptical mind is of course naturally adverse to the idea of a whole crowd of Canterlot nobles suddenly being swayed by one performance, you know what? This is a world where the magic of friendship is literally used to defeat evil, and that and depending on the type of world you're writing your fic in, I think it's par for course and it gets a pass. And hey, you didn't go down the route of ponies as the archtypical "racist, hateful d-bags", so that always get a plus from me.

Overall, well done on this chapter. I do think there's more that could be done with it, but that's up to what you have planned in the future. If this is the chapter where this fic ends, I suppose this is a good way to do so.

Thanks! I had wondered why there wasn't a lot of stories that talk about changeling art and music. I would think it would be a great way to humanize them. I guess it worked well!

Thanks! Yeah, I wanted the ponies to come off not as racist but more...uneasy and worried at their worst. And they've got good reason to be worried, but it's too easy to go down the slippery slope.

I don't get the ending.....

5464504

It's a sign of acceptance. After having no home for so long...at last those that had hated and feared them for so long finally see them as PEOPLE, not just monstrous boogeyman lurking in the shadows. All because they finally got to share their culture.

Does that help?

5464711 Gee, that summed it up. Thanks! By the way, do you think season 5 will have changelings be shown in a brighter light?

Many, many miles away, Pinkie Pie stiffened, suddenly shuddering. “Ewww. GROSS. Somebody is talking about old people hanky-panky!”

LOL!

5575347

Yeah, that was one of my favorite jokes too.

That's pure propaganda, our glorious and generous Queen, let the sun and mom done on her for eternity, is the fairest and most noble ruler in all of Equestria. And I'm not saying that only because she could crush me with a glance. Just mostly because of that.

Raziel-chan

Huh, a changeling vore artist. Interesting.

That ending, lol.

Cya
Raziel-chan

Interesting.

Sorry, Goya, try as I might, changelings are just the cutest thing to me, much cuter than ponies.

Cya
Raziel-chan

That end was so touching. Now if only I could find some good melody for that song.

Thank you! I love it when my stories can reach people on an emotional level because it connects. ^_^

so is the shapeshifting an illusion, or do they really shapeshift, just with a upper size limit?
if its the latter, would small shapeshifting to help survive be useable? i.e if the changelings needed to go somewhere very watery/harvest things from lakes and such, they could shapeshift gills/other ways to stay down there?

Lol the names sound strangely Thai to me XD

I was trying to draw a parallel between Changeling and KOREAN culture, actually.
