Okay, wow, best chapter. :O

I'm liking BJ's need to be the emotional support for her friends. She and Glory just need to fuck already. Stable 90 was interesting; the mention of the rocketship piqued my interest, and I fully expect that to become important later. Doctor Scalpel is kind of amazing (I'm just sort of flabbergasted that Rampage even has a mother), I like that plan to cut the drug production, and, well, the memory orb is the first spot this story has felt like it was dragging at all, so that ain't too bad.

But the best part? Well, there's two best parts. First, you had two characters sit down in the Wasteland and debate the morality of rape. Now I've taken "FoE sidefic as commentary on the original" as a mantra for story planning, but it seems like you've really beaten me to it. I was kind of sad they didn't come to any sort of agreement or conclusion, but if that's not commentary on the original, I don't know what is.

Second, P-21's backstory. Fantastic. I was starting to think he might be gay, and I was so totally right. I really adore all the revelations that happened in this chapter, and I'm cursing myself for not having time to keep going with chapter 16. D: Goddammit.

The entry marked ‘Fool’s Gambit’ made me chuckle. Who ever heard of a fighting style based entirely on moment to moment improvisation?

So Blackjack not only raped P-21 one sidedly, but also killed his boyfriend as revealed. As an accident too, well now Blackjack knows exactly why P-21 would shoot her at first. Which considering how P-21 grows as a character from here and further into the story. I have no qualms about his sexual orientation preference from Stable 99. P-21 is one of the most interesting characters in Project Horizons for a multitude of reasons. "The most interesting stallion in the world."

That scene with Rampage and Glory involving the broken beam rifle, reminded me of itself, in comic form.

Heh, Stable 69 (really 89) is a reference in re-purpose to Vault 21 'Blackjack' of The Strip of New Vegas.

The peach colored bartender is really Caprice, no wonder she knows so much about Flank and gives Blackjack the anonymous tip to clear out the second-hand dealers. As well as the near-chapter end memory giving further clues as to who Maripony actually is. No usual unicorn would use a teleportation spell in the nick of time.

First Mornin' Glory and now P-21 caught Blackjack with a wait-for-it memory orb. Yeah. ya gonna have to work things out with P-21 to get out of that mess. I'd be pretty miffed too if I was wearing a bomb collar.

Steady, I discovered, caused nerve damage if used too frequently. Med-X could cause the mind to experience phantom pains. Buck was damaging my joints and muscles and doing a number on my reproductive system. But the real monster, apparently, was Hydra.

Damn I remember playing Fallout 3 for the first time. Got hooked on all the Chems at the same time. It was a all caps in move.

I swear to God that I've seen this scene:

We arrived. The town filling most of the valley had evidently once been a major suburb of Hoofington. Several five and six-story buildings hunched sullenly together in the center of the ruins like brooding mares. We passed by a sign that read ‘Welcome to Flankfurt. Hope you like your stay.’ That warm greeting was marred by less charming messages like ‘DASH: 20% more fucked!’, ‘STELLA!’, ‘Fuck Caprice: 50 caps’, ‘Fried in ten seconds flat’, and ‘DIE ZEBRA DIE!’ There was a balefire crater to the north, but most of Flank appeared burned rather than blasted. A morass of ponds and muck lingered in and around the roofless remains of the houses, but I didn’t see one strand of swamp grass. Nothing grew in Flank.

Then I felt it. My heartbeat was becoming irregular and I staggered, my hooves falling out from under me. Blood was trickling down my nose and out of my ears. Tears much too thick to be simple salt water ran down my cheeks. I couldn’t seem to breathe as I feel flat on my face.

“Blackjack? Blackjack! What’s wrong?” Glory yelled as she turned me on my side.

“Enervation, probably. Flank is full of E-fields,” Rampage said in mild irritation. “Guess the Hydra weakened her body enough that she’s crashing.”

“Do something!” Glory said as she looked up at the Reaper, “Please!”

Rampage rolled her eyes and gave a dismissive snort, grabbed me, and dragged me several feet back. My heartbeat steadied as I lay there. Now, more than ever, I suddenly realized just how fucked up I was. I could have died! I could have liquefied… I…

It finally happened: I was afraid of dying. Not of dying personally; that was sort of a ‘well, it would suck if I did’ kind of concern. No, it was thinking about not resolving things with P-21. It was wondering what would happen to Glory if I died. Thinking of that, for the first time ever, I realized I was scared shitless that I’d kick it and leave them to go on without me.

I was such a stupid pony that I had to bleed from my tear ducts before I could see that.

Before. Was it a memory orb that Littlepip viewed at one point, or am I just going insane?

“So can you tell me the responsibilities of the O.I.A., Go Fish?” Textbook asked.

honestly, the lack of empathy or at least sympathy for p-21 in the comments is terrifying. he, his boyfriend, and all of his friends were repeatedly and systematically raped, tortured, and murdered for most of his life. then one of his and his bf’s rapists bludgeons his bf to death in front of him, and then years later she tries to befriend and travel with him? it’s surprising he didn’t do this earlier, honestly, and it’s sick and insane to somehow blame him for it. i would have grabbed a gun and shot her the first day out. this is not a sudden betrayal, it was only a matter of time

More happy Stable 99 memories. At this point I’m surprised that this Stable lasted than long. I would’ve given it twenty years before the inhabitants snapped and killed each other.

Fixer’s a psychoactive like Dash and Mint-als. It doesn’t do anything for your actual symptoms but make them ignorable. You have been trotting around with your heart rate at over a hundred beats a minute when you should have been lying down, trying to metabolize the chemicals and recover

It also makes you hear very annoying sounds every few seconds.

Now in New Vegas, Taking Fixer actually removed addictions completely. Of course, nobody wants to have his PC spend a month going cold turkey to remove an addiction.

In a story, on the other hand, being able to instantly cure withdrawal syndromes and other side effect of drugs would feel a bit cheap. Especially since we already have overpowered Healing Potions. Making Fixer something that only allows you to ignore the side effects of drugs, while not actually removing them is a good idea. Even if it turns Fixer from something helpful into something potential dangerous because it allows you to ignore the warning signs of your body and push on.

But instead of looking angry or upset… I couldn’t tell what that expression was. Was it happiness? “Lucky bastard.”

Wouldn’t really call him lucky. In fact, I’m pretty sure that was a very painful death.

Defiantly not the Enclave. If they wanted it, they would’ve taken it from Blackjack in Miramare. And Big Daddy Reaper probably would’ve cut Sanguine as the middle man and go straight to Deus. He also wouldn’t have sent Rampage to protect Blackjack.

So that leaves Elder Crunchy Carrots, King Awesome or somepony completely different. My prime suspect right now are the Steele Rangers. Or more precisely the second-in-command who was describe as ambitious enough to go war to increase their influence on the Hoof. Maybe he hopes that the EC-1101, whatever it is, will give an edge over the Reaper and the Enclave.

Anyway, the Society prefers to call them ‘serfs’ and ‘servants’, but it’s one pony wearing an explosive collar and another pony with their hoof on the trigger. So it sounds like slaves to me.

Serfs sounds nicer. Allows them to pretend they aren’t slave owners. Just like Stable 99 doesn’t kill male but retires them.

Blackjack’s day just went from really horrible, to “Would somepony please shoot me?”

Glory groaned and took out a red cartridge with a mouth tube attached. She put it to my lips. “Breathe in a deeply as you can…” she muttered as her hooves compressed the cartridge and I felt a hot, stinging gas fill my lungs.

Are any drug left in the setting Blackjack hasn’t taken yet? At this point her recovery is going to be a small miracle.

“Not another one, Rampage. I can’t keep treating every poor thing you bring in. Just give it some Dash and let it die in peace.”

She takes people to the doctor for treatment? That’s surprisingly nice for a pony like her.

Everything that had once been glorious and good and bright was just a dream. Nopony stopped the screams coming from the colt as he was shocked again and again as they demanded he tell them how he’d escaped.

Okay this was surreal. Obviously the last part wasn’t true. But what about the rest? Did Blackjack and P-21 once went to school together and were friends? That would makes what happened later it even more heart wrenching.

She looked at me oddly. “Okay. And?”
‘And?’ What the fuck did she mean, ‘and?’ “And it was fucking wrong!”
She just sat on her haunches, looking at me as if mildly baffled. “Huh… well that’s novel.”

Scalpel therapized Blackjack before it was cool.

She’s a also pretty horrible therapist. I think even Rampage would do a better job at this point.

“I raped P-21 and didn’t even realize it was wrong. I couldn’t save Glory from fuckers I knew were bad news. And it seems like the only way for anypony to survive is to become like Deus and kill everypony and anypony that they want.”

Okay she’s either the worst or the best therapist. If her plan was to intentionally make Blackjack angry to feel let out all the pent-up emotion, then it worked pretty well. Maybe the Heartmender’s should’ve contacted her.

“I want to be good too,” Scalpel said quietly.

I’ve noticed that this is a recurring theme in the story. Ponies trying to be better. Bottlecap who sells weapons but refuses to trade in drug and slaves clings to the hope that once her life is over she will have done more good than bad. Priest trying to convince Ponies not to kill themselves but doesn’t stop them from doing it. And now Scalpel, who tries to save the lives of junkies only for them to die anyway. All suffering in their own way but still trying to make a difference.

I fell apart at that point, and Glory did too. I think we both needed to just give in a little and hurt.

So P-21 murdered at least one young colt to stale death? Stable 99 takes ponies and turns them into monsters.

To quote We Happy Few: “I’d just forgotten how heinous a person I am.”

Sorry Blackjack, but I have to take back what I said in Chapter 1. You weren’t a good pony. You were less evil than Daisy, but not good. You did horrible things.

That said, I still admire you for realizing that you were horrible and yoru willingness to make amends. And while you may have not been a good Pony back then, you’ve become one.

There was a butcher shop that definitely had me a bit nervous; all meat looked the same chopped up.

Are the Ponies in Fallout: Equestria omnivores? Crazy Raiders eating meat is one thing, but normal ponies? Sure it probably tastes good and we humans eat a lot of stuff that isn’t healthy for us because of that. But I can’t imagine there being a huge market for meat. Because a Pony that’s only eating meat would starve very quickly because he or she doesn’t get enough nutrition from it.

It was called ‘Cloud Fresh’; outside were two pegasus mares in less severe looking uniforms than what I was familiar with. In fact, with the amount of flank they showed, it was hard to determine if they were wearing clothes or lingerie.

I wonder what they did to be punished with that job?

“We owe her,” I said with a shrug. “She’s also one of the few ponies I can think of that really doesn’t care about the bounty on my head. Plus, I’d rather not have her prowling around behind me.”

That and she’s good a killing ponies. Which is a plus considering how many Bounty Hunters Blackjack encountered in the last couple days.

Had I not been preoccupied by P-21 and what I’d done to him, I might have been in the mood for some enjoyment as well.

Sometimes it’s hard to believe that this is the same mare as in Speak.

The original stable was a chemist’s dream come true. There were chemicals stored here that had names so long you’d have to take a breath, or two, to name them. Unfortunately, the place was also lacking in entertainment, so some enterprising pony mixed up something fun. Then another did. Then another.” The peach mare sighed, rolling her eyes a little. “Eventually, the party ran out because somepony mixed up a nerve gas and released it into the ventilation systems.”

No Vault-Tec experiments and the ponies still managed to fuck up their stables. I know Stables where nothing goes wrong make for terrible stories. But it feels like the only two Stables that turned out alright where Littlepip’s and the one in Speak.

“So if somepony took out these dealers, what would happen?”
“Well, I know Flank would be grateful. Since Mixers doesn’t sell samples, the addicts would have more incentive to go to Qwik-Care. It would raise prices, making treatment easier than another high. Of course, Scalpel would probably complain about all the extra work…”

Wow, that’s some serious mental trauma there.

Suddenly I knew exactly where Hydra came from. Just as suddenly, I knew I never, ever, wanted to take Hydra again.

You say that now, but just wait until somepony or something blows off your leg. Then you’re happily grab the next batch of Hydra.

“You!” the dapple-coated mare exclaimed as she backed away. “Kill her quickly! Before the others arrive!”

They never learn. Do they?

“Run?” She looked positively incensed. “Run?! I’m a Reaper. We don’t do run!” she yelled as she charged at the hydra. One mouth bit down on her steel-plated ass, another grabbed her head and lifted her into the air, pulling and twisting. Rampage laughed in glee, twisting and kicking whatever she could as her bladed armor cut into the monster’s mouths. “Yeah! You like that?! I’ll tear you apart from the inside out!”

Wow, there’s actually a pony more crazy in battle than Blackjack.

Apparently shockwaves are bad for the brain, particularly when you just recovered from a near death experience less than a day prior.

At this point near-death experiences are a common occurrence for Blackjack. To tell the truth, it’s getting a tad bit ridicules how often Blackjack has to be brought back from the brink of death.

“It’s why it’ll never be square. It’s why I’ve always got to keep trying to make it square. And I’ll always lose.” I sighed. “There were three ponies who died in a cage… maybe I could have saved them if I’d tried harder. I don’t know…”
Scalpel looked at me for one more moment then grumbled, “You’re an idiot.”

That’s a really bad way to approach things. Instead of worrying about whether or not her good deeds will outnumber her bad ones, she should simply focus one doing good things. It’s not a number game. Then again, it’s Blackjack. Even if she managed to convince every Raider in the Wasteland to become a pacifist and she would still think that she could’ve done more.

For Celestia’s sake, she just saved several Ponies from being feed to a Hydra and made sure the ponies involved can never do it again. Yet, she considered it a failure.

Nopony knew what it was or what caused it, but if it got inside you then it would slowly mutate and corrupt your mind and body. A lot of the wildlife had been horribly mutated by just a little of it. Knowing my luck, I’d gotten a lot more than a little. “So, am I going to grow tentacles? A third eye? A penis? Eye tentacle penises?”

Sure it probably tastes good and we humans eat a lot of stuff that isn’t healthy for us because of that. But I can’t imagine there being a huge market for meat. Because a Pony that’s only eating meat would starve very quickly because he or she doesn’t get enough nutrition from it.

I realise I'm replying to a 3 year old comment, but from the original Fallout: Equestria:

“Littlepip...” Velvet raised her hoof to her chest in exaggerated offense. “That’s meat!”

“uhf-huf,” I mouthed through my breakfast, hoping in vain that having established this fact, I would be allowed to eat in peace.

Velvet Remedy’s eyes narrowed. “We’re vegetarians,” she said flatly.

I paused at that. True, all I had ever eaten in Stable Two was apples. But I had assumed that was because it was the only thing we had for eating. And I felt I would be perfectly happy never eating another apple as long as I lived. I thought back to my first meals outside... how I had found cooked meat stored in a refrigerator, and simply assumed that’s what ponies ate in the wasteland. My stomach had fought it uncomfortably, but I figured that was more the result of a lifetime of apples, and that outside food would just take some getting used to. For the most part, I felt I’d acclimated well.

Of course, now that I thought about it, it had been a raider refrigerator. So diet was suspect.

Calamity finally pulled his head out of his oatmeal bowl, winging in on the conversation. “Oh, we c’n eat meat all right. Jus’ don’t much like to. Ain’t really good for our diet.” Calamity looked sideways, his oatmeal-covered lips curling into a frown. “Muh brothers used t’ challenge me t’ hotdog eatin’ contests. Which mostly meant them shoving the disgustin’ things down muh throat.”

Velvet Remedy looked appalled.

“’Course, they were prob’ly disgusting more cuz they were two hundred years old than cuz they were meat.”

So yeah, ponies in FoE are generally omnivores. As are horses in real life by the way, there are a bunch of somewhat disturbing videos of horses munching on chicks and other small critters on youtube.

I focused on any crate marked ‘BOOM’, guessing the fireworks were my best bet. One crate started to smoke… fizzle… and then there was a pop. That was it. “Oh come on! What kind of fireworks don’t explode?”
