This was pretty good for the chapter by itself. I don't know about the rest of the fic because it can go either way. The escaped ex-con/buddy road trip to self discovery can be done rather well or it can end up DOA.

I really enjoyed this chapter. The entire situation reminded me of something right out of Orwell's 1984. Two characters with rebellious thoughts, finding each other inside the unforgiving machine of their society. Conspiring together to escape the system.
The atmosphere you've built here is deliciously rich.
Can't wait to see where things go from here.

I haven't actually read or seen 1984, but everyone knows it, and when you're creating a society this highly regulated, it's hard to keep the inspiration anywhere else. I think this one might have a happier ending, though.

Seriously, though, even without real life interfering, I often find it hard to sit down and churn out words like that. Even if I did, I usually have to go through quite a few rounds of editing before I'm happy enough with what I've got that I feel confident posting it. I don't want to be putting out half-done chapters in a rush to get something posted as soon as possible.
And real life does interfere. A lot.
Believe me, I'd love to be able to pump out multi-k word chapters every few days. But it's just not possible for me at the moment.

Honestly? I just did exactly what a changeling would have done, and picked syllables that sounded good on their own and mashed them together. It could have turned out really badly... But I think it turned out okay.
