Hmm. The narrative voice and the male-to-female issue remind me of Heinlein's The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress. I'm not quite sure where you're going with it, though.
You know, even if your writing wasn't amazing as always, I'd still probably like this simply for yet another R.E.M reference - and one of my favourite songs at that.
3239582 I actually finished reading that book right before brainstorming this fic, so consider it the prime inspiration. As for where I'm going with it? In a few directions, although this is meant to be a slice of life fic, so don't expect epic space battles or ingenius plot twists.
